Reality Rules Parkrun Launch 3 October 2026

Today was another Parkrun Saturday and like every weekend the achievements by women was demoted by men running in the female category.

We are hoping to change this! In only a few weeks time, we will debut Reality Rules Runners UK at Parkrun. We hope that many hundreds (hopefully thousands) of you will join us to send a clear and strong statement to Parkrun about the huge support there is for fairness and sex-based categories at their events.

All sports events are responsible for putting on fair events. This includes free, volunteer run, community events like Parkrun.

So please tell people about Reality Rules Runners UK, as we are hoping to attract lots more supporters before our debut at Parkrun on 3 October.

Thank you! 🙏

If anyone wants to check for themselves before they wipe it. It's parkrun volunteer hub, point 2.7.

Very disappointed that I can’t register my dog as a parkrunner. He identifies as a person.

I’m a cis woman. Are we back to accusing women who disagree with you of being men?

I always thought the use of “cis” was very transphobic. I mean, isn’t that just rubbing in into a TW face that they will never be a woman? I mean, if “cis” means in the same side as woman, and “trans” means across from, then as the thing across from woman is man, calling yourself “cis” just reinforces the fact that TW are men doesn’t it?

hallouminatus · 02/10/2026 22:15

I expect this has been discussed before, but why not use an existing feature of parkrun - group membership - to allow people to record their gender identity? There are already hundreds of groups registered, including Asian Women Run, Barefoot Runners, Vegan Runners, and now, Reality Rules Runners. They could easily add Non-Binary Runners, Cisgender Runners and Transgender runners, or maybe separate groups for cis men and trans men, cis women and trans women. Then the more exotic identities could be added according to demand.

But why do they need to get rid of it because some people want to be anal about something that can never be policed?

Some people like seeing their times. I do as it shows me I am improving. But the point is there are zero checks that you have registered correctly or even that you have run under your own barcode.

So when it comes to sex and sports - Park Run seems to weirdest hill to die on. I could decide to register as an 19 year old man and not a single participant or volunteer or the Park Run organisation would know I was actually a 45 year old woman.

I could give my brother my bar code not a single person would know he was running under my name. So what exactly is this campaign achieving? It’s not like the Olympics or official sporting events where runners identities are known.

Edited

”Why bother worrying about a small, fun bit of sex discrimination?”

It’s bizarre that people say stuff like this out loud thinking it’s okay to treat women a little bit shitty if it’s in something that’s not that big a deal and think they’re making a good argument.

So women aren't allowed to get pulled by a dog in case its unfair, but men can register as women and it's fine.

FFS.

Because I think the men who want to be women want the validation of running in the female category. When trans categories have been offered in swimming there was no take up. So I doubt trans women (in particular) (or TIMs if that’s a better term) would be happy with the proposal you’re suggesting.

Wow!

So PR really were more concerned about an unfairly dog assisted time than a man claiming a woman's time!

Tagging @Canadanian who I'm sure will be as surprised as me but will also appreciate the opportunity to get his/her facts straight.

I really wasn't making the dog thing up.

ArabellaScott · 03/10/2026 10:28

'Its only a fun run who cares'

Etc, etc

ArabellaScott · 03/10/2026 10:31

I assume the dog pulling risk is taken vewy sewioihsly in case it affects mens' times. But women are not supposed to or allowed to care about their times, or they are nasty mean petty &c.

Scout2016 · 03/10/2026 11:05

Pleased to have taken part today! Was nervous wearing my Save Womens Sports tshirt and I wasn't really feeling the running part, but very glad to have contributed in my tiny way.

RoastOrMash · 03/10/2026 11:40

Thank you Reality RulesRunners, completed my first Park Run this morning.

Enjoyed it 😁

i did actually sign up few years ago to Park Run but didn’t attend due to their unfair policy re women’s category and eventually got them to delete my details/account.

if it hadn’t have been for RRR I wouldn’t have gone today so thank you for motivating me 🙂

NotMyRealAccount · 03/10/2026 11:56

I decided not to wear overt insignia because I'd heard whispering that self-styled trans allies were planning to advertise their allyship prominently at some events today. And if the Be Kind sort of allies from my wider social circle were indignant about women wanting our own stuff for ourselves just like the men have, I couldn't count on the rentamob variety of TRA not turning up looking to cause trouble. It's most unlikely at my little home parkrun, but I wasn't taking the risk of inconveniencing a core team who didn't ask to be caught up in this nonsense.

I did wear a purple tutu (for parkrun is making a big deal of its 22nd birthday, and "22 = wear a tutu" is part of the culture) with a green milestone vest over a white t-shirt as an IYKYK sort of compromise.

Datun · 03/10/2026 13:05

I can't help laughing at TRAs claiming that the arguments are circular. Well that's because you're not actually responding to any of them. You just keep denying them based on nothing.

It's not a competition, it clearly is.

It's outing, it clearly isn't.

It stops TIMs from running, it clearly doesn't.

Frankly, given how popular parkrun is I predict they will have to make an unequivocal statement.

And without deciding to eliminate the statistics, because they are too scared of transactism to apply them accurately.

It's definitely discriminatory to women if women are being forced to compare themselves to men, because men are lying about their category.

That's a slam dunk, in my opinion.

And we all know the way it goes. The backlash will be vicious, which tends to just entrench people who had previously been a bit of a fence sitter.

NotMyRealAccount · 03/10/2026 13:19

I have to admit that given what Lauren Jeska is in jail for and knowing that he's likely to be released sometime, if I was in Paul Sinton-Hewitt's position I might be more worried about the potential personal consequences of taking his female course records off him because he's not a woman than about the public disapproval of women like me, or even the brave and formidable Mara. Which is not to say that I think it's OK in the slightest.

GreenwayHouse · 03/10/2026 13:35

I ran this morning in my RRR vest top. Didn’t encounter any nastiness. One marshal said “reality does rule” and gave me a thumbs up. And another marshal asked what it meant and as I was running past her at the time, I said “it means something - you’ll have to look it up!”

Great to see lots of photos of people on X with their T-shirts on.

I did figure that the worst thing that could happen is that someone would call me a transphobe. So I stopped being worried when I was there.

ArabellaScott · 03/10/2026 14:40

Reality Rules has over 500 members! That's more than 100 a week.

Congrats to them and everyone who has taken part this weekend. Lovely to see.

That is brilliant.

I was reading about the girls and women who were worried about joining because it would cause issues with work / family. So that is an awesome achievement.

The thing that pps were saying, that most people aren't aware and don't care, is completely true.

But the suggestion that that's because most people support men running in women's categories is just horseshit.

We know, because we've seen all the surveys and stats, that a large majority of people don't support men in women's sports.

My Reality Rules t shirt arrived today at 1pm... next weekend! I am too nervous to join the club online, so have enormous respect for everyone who has.

On a positive note, I am doing my bit to educate my two teen sons, and all 3 of us are now discussing that a dog assisted run is officially considered unfair, but a male one not so much.... 😡

They wanted thousands, then reduced that to 1750, then to 1000, then to 750, and then just whatever they could muster up. It's been an unmitigated humiliation and failure.😂
