IwantToRetire · 31/08/2026 00:48

Today was another Parkrun Saturday and like every weekend the achievements by women was demoted by men running in the female category.

We are hoping to change this! In only a few weeks time, we will debut Reality Rules Runners UK at Parkrun. We hope that many hundreds (hopefully thousands) of you will join us to send a clear and strong statement to Parkrun about the huge support there is for fairness and sex-based categories at their events.

All sports events are responsible for putting on fair events. This includes free, volunteer run, community events like Parkrun.

So please tell people about Reality Rules Runners UK, as we are hoping to attract lots more supporters before our debut at Parkrun on 3 October.

Thank you! 🙏

You’ve mentioned this a couple of times. In what sense is a transwoman ‘outing herself’. What does that look like?

You want trans women to register as men, and I presume they would then be listed as a man online.

I am coming from a place of knowing that many trans women ‘pass’ as cis women (I know someone will come along and say WE CAN ALWAYS TELL in a minute, but I promise you cant).

Cadeaukatze · 02/10/2026 12:55

Surely if a trans identifying man competes as a woman, he IS outing himself.

He'd actually blend in better if he competed in the male category.

It's slightly different for transmen, as they tend to pass better.

And if you are non-binary you use the prefer not to say, although I think they need a an actual non-binary category too as prefer not to say can mean a multitude of things.

I think it’s on your side of the argument to provide the evidence that women are self excluding? Before we worry about what my threshold would be, do you have ANY evidence at all that any women are self excluding beyond one anonymous poster in a chat? I don’t think the campaign that started this thread mentions that’s happening, but I might be wrong!

Look on social media. Look under the accounts for Reality Rules Runners, Mara Yamauchi, Claire Hallissey and Sharron Davies. Look on this thread. You will find women saying they have self-excluded.

I’ve seen women cyclists retire because they are demoralised by having to compete against men in their category. They know they don’t stand a chance.

Girls also drop out of physical activity at a huge rate during their teens. Do you think having men in their category motivates them to carry on? If you spend even two minutes looking this up online you will see a lot of evidence for it.

Check out hecheated.org for a list of places and medals given to men and boys instead of women and girls.

My local park run won't let you run with more than one dog on a lead, and only with leads you hold with a hand rather than those leads that go around your waist. I don't know if that's universal, but if they can recognise that being pulled by a dog can give you an unfair advantage, how come Park run doesn't recognise that going through a male puberty and being riddled with testosterone also gives men an unfair advantage in the women's category?

GreenwayHouse · 02/10/2026 12:59

I think they do @PastySausageStew - they are just too cowardly to do anything about it.

FGS, you couldn't make it up

I don't consider it possible to safely fight in boxing matches with any combination of age and sex.

Because of this, I can't and don't hold the position you are attempting to assert that I believe.

You and I both know you do hold that position. You may not admit it in words but it is an unescapable consequence of positions you do admit to.

You cannot hold one and deny the other. It's like saying you want to stand in sunlight but denying this means you will cast a shadow.

You think boxing should not exist. Fine.

But today, it does.

So today, while boxing does exist and for as long as it does exist, you also think women who participate should accept having to be hit by transwomen in the women's catgeory. Your positin seems to be that because they cannot be perfectly safe, it doesn't matter that the particpation of transwomen means they will be less safe than they would otherwise be.

If I am wrong and you do not hold this position, say so. It's not hard. All you need to say is "I do not believe boxing as an organised sport should be legal. However as long as women's boxing is a legally allowed sport, transwomen should not be included in the woman's category."

Or you can keep dodging.

You can keep saying that because you don't think boxing should exist at all, you won't condemn a situation where women do not have the choice to consent only to fighting other women.

And by so doing, you make it very clear that you do hold the position that until (if ever) your nirvana is reached, women who want to participate should be required to face male bodies in the women's category despite the increased risk this poses, an additional risk for the women who want to box with other women, for benefits that are purely for the men who want to particpate as "women"

He can register as 'none'.

I think it's wild that we have ended up in a place where it's considered entirely reasonable to treat ones sex as a deep shameful secret.

If transwomen (and men) did not seek to deceive, the "outing" problem would not exist.

ArabellaScott · 02/10/2026 13:08

Canadanian · 02/10/2026 12:41

HAVE they though? I don’t think theres any evidence women are self excluding.

Unlike single sex space arguments or arguments about boxing, i don't think anyone is arguing that trans people participating is unsafe. So you’d only self exclude if you SUPER cared about winning your category…. And I just don’t think that’s the main reason most people participate in parkrun.

Also your point relies on all reasons for self excluding being equal. Someone self excluding because they might not win versus a trans woman self excluding because it would be dangerous if she has to out herself as trans are not the same.

Me. I'm self excluding because outing myself as 'gc' locally could be very risky. There are some completely unhinged men living near me who are very vocal about what they think about women like me. I'd have to have far better home security to 'out' myself.

GreenwayHouse · 02/10/2026 13:09

For those who are interested (guessing not those arguing for TW to run in the F category), there is a really excellent blog post included in an email from Reality Rules Runners this morning about how parkrun tries to call itself not a race while fulfilling all the criteria of a race.

Then he can register as prefer not to say or none. What he shouldn't be able to do is lie and cheat his way into the women's category - because he's not a woman, in the same way if he's in his 40s he's not in his 70s or in his early teens.

I…. I really don’t think that’s why you’re not allowed to be in charge of multiple dogs at a crowded community event. I can’t tell if you’re joking 😂

This is the thing. Trans activists repeatedly assert that they are the lovely kind good people. Yet their posts on social media, their words and actions, are nasty, aggressive, belittling, mocking, and horrible. They are all about trying to shame women, just for asking for our sex based rights.

They are trying to shame us for existing. For saying we exist in our own right outside their sexist gender categories.

For all the "you don't want trans people to exist" rhetoric, it is TRAS and Genderists who do not think the female (and indeed male) halves of humanity should have their own legal, linguistic and cultural existence, nor the right to decide for ouselves whether we consider our sex as a significant factor to our needs, experiences, identities and lives.

Yeah. It's the mocking, the lols, the laugh emojis.

Women talking about their experiences, feelings, preferences just gets ignored. Then if you keep talking, you get mocked, laughed at. If you still keep going, you get attacked. The threats, aggression, and violence come out.

But you know what they say ...

FlirtsWithRhinos · 02/10/2026 13:15

Canadanian · 02/10/2026 11:48

Inclusion?

Everyone - including trans people - feeling welcomed and encouraged to participate in a community event which is good for their health?

Trans people not having to out themselves as trans to take part, which can be unsafe?

People who ARENT competitive being able to enjoy a walk, or a jog with their pram, or some sociable outdoor time in their mobility scooter without having to care about categories and times if they don’t want to?

450,000 choose to participate each week, so I think many people see the benefits of the current set up.

parkrun is a lovely thing - it’s sad they’re having to deal with this.

Why do parkrun publish category times and ranks for their non-competetive fun run?

Why do they even have an age grading system so runners can get a sense of where they rank overall?

If no one cares?

That rule is not to prevent an “unfair advantage”. It’s to allow the runner to be more in control of their dog and be able to drop the lead if someone trips over it. You can’t drop a lead if it’s attached to a waist harness. And you can’t be in complete control of many dogs in a busy environment with lots of people running at the same time.

Do you ACTUALLY think the restriction on the number of dogs one person can run with is based on them not pulling them along so they run faster??? Or do you know full well it’s about everyone’s safety, space etc.

It’s hard to have a reasonable discussion when you’ll just insist on things you absolutely don’t believe just to keep disagreeing.

I want them to register their sex at birth. Parkrun participants don’t wear their names when running, so how would they be outed. How would anyone know who ‘Eileen Jones M’ was? What prevents Eileen not specifying their sex at all? What prevents Parkrun retaining ‘inclusivity’ by not making tables of male and female runners public? Why does the default way of being inclusive have to disadvantage female runners?

Point to where I said anything about being pulled along for a faster time?

Now, if you want to talk about spaces, I will ask you again - how many men should be allowed to hold the PR records in the women's category?

You didn’t, but that is what the poster I was responding to suggested, and that’s the conversation you jumped in on 🤷‍♀️ there are multiple people in the chat so if you want add value you need to follow the thread of the exchange you’re weighing in on.

I jumped on to point put the ridiculousness of your laughter at 2 small dogs on a lead but no similar 😂 about the ridiculousness of men competing unfairly in the women's category.

The second part of my post asked you how many men should be allowed to hold the PR record in the women's category. How many would you say?

I'll also throw in another question for the lolz. Should men in their 40s be allowed to hold the record for the 70s or early teens categories?
