Loyle Carner & JKR

CarotidFartery · 15/08/2026 10:17

Picked up a car of teens from Boardmasters last week and was really bothered to overhear some of their conversations.

Among the over stimulated wittering they were talking about how much they liked Loyle Carner and they loved it when he shouted that he hated Nigel Farage and the crowd roared, and then when he shouted about hating JKR and everyone whooped.

I was 🤨 and pointed out that rabble rousing and shouting about 'hating' specific people should generally be avoided. There were some mutterings about her deserving it and then the conversation moved on.

I chose my moment to broach the subject with the teen that belongs to me this week. They doubled down a bit and said, "but isnt she racist and homophobic and transphobic?" So we had a conversation about not forming our opinions from myth and rumour, and maybe pondering why a middle aged feminist was the priority for slagging off to a crowd of impressionable teens. Of all the people in all the world to raise a rabble against?!

I have googled and it seems this is an integral part of his act. There doesn't seem to be much commentary about it online though.

You wouldn't know the truth if it formed itself into a marching band, called itself the Absolute Truth Pipers and performed on your front garden.

😂

She called a brown Muslim cis woman, who's been repeatedly cleared to box and has often lost to other cis women, a man who enjoyed hitting women.

She explicitly called a heroic working-class Muslim woman, heroine to girls within her country, an abusive man.

That is despicable, and widely seen as racist for obvious reasons.

Khelif has an SRY gene.

L'Équipe: Pour qu'on comprenne bien, vous avez un phénotype féminin mais possédez le gène SRY, indicateur de masculinité.
Khelif: Oui, et c'est naturel.

spannasaurus · 15/08/2026 14:53

Thomas Bach all but confirmed that Khelif has a DSD when he made a press announcement saying that this was not a DSD issue (referring to Khelif) and then had to issue a correction to say he should have said this was not a trans issue. Khelifs own team have referred to chromosomal differences.

YY.

This was a reply to the tedious poster who called me a liar, btw.

But I guess lots of you defend that JKR repost. Outing yourselves as racists by attacking Khelif was a giveaway there.

Can't handle a cis Muslim woman being proud and strong rather than an object of Islsmophobic pity huh. What a surprise.

Can’t handle a man stealing the opportunities of brown Muslim women in his country, actually.

Anyway, enough. I didn’t intend to engage in your factless ragebait.

JKR's behaviour towards Imane Khelif, reposting of Islamophobic content and endorsement of racists when they're also transphobic, has been very widely noted.

Her ignorant, malicious comments about asexual people have travelled far as well.

Her reputation's in ruins. Most folk know her as someone who just keeps attacking trans people. And who hired Johnny Depp. But that campaign against a brown Muslim woman damaged her irreparably, as is right.

I see she reposted a repulsive, racist comment about Jason Arday earlier this week.

Good on those young people. Standing up against gleeful transphobia (and the rest) is what we're supposed to teach them.

? Kalif was show to be a MAN. A MAN. You know that don’t you? Don’t you? Christ, how out of touch can you get? A MAN got an Olympic medal for beating up women, THATS what the whole scandal was about. Surely you did SOME research before posting?

The only tedious one is you, continuing to post a load of bollocks. But I get it. If you didn’t go along with the nonsense, you’d have to look internally about affirming your daughter’s identify and what damage it could be causing her body. For what it’s worth, I hope she somehow escapes the issues taking wrong sex hormones can do to a body. But listening to others who have been down the same route, I sadly think she won’t escape without any issues.

And ‘asexual’? WTF is that all about??? If you don’t want we’d with people, don’t have sex with people. Why on earth would you publicise the fact, or call it an ‘identity’? It’s laughable oversharing.

Is this the repost you're referring to

That’s a lame reach even for TPA.

spannasaurus · 15/08/2026 15:01

The Equipe article includes this statement that khelif reduced his testosterone to zero. That doesn't sound believable. The level that Caster Semanya had to reduce his testosterone to was still in the male range.

For the qualifying tournament for the Paris Games, which took place in Dakar, I lowered my testosterone level to zero (the average level is between 0.3 and 3 nanomoles per liter of blood in women) . And I won the gold medal there.

TPA's daughter is a figment of his imagination. It's just a prop he uses to berate uppity women.

I used to wonder about that but I’m pretty sure there is a daughter. I believe there are other children too.

Took me a moment to realise TPA refers to that poster’s username and not Trans Preferences Activist which I’d thought was very accurate because it is only preferences which are being aggressively demanded after all, not rights where equality has already been achieved.

We can never really know the reality of what posters on Mumsnet claim to be. There are a significant number who claim to be mothers yet their posts reveal that they have no clue about children, no insight into being a woman and zero experience of parenting.
As Mumsnet's fundamental aim is to "make parents' lives easier", I look with sadness at posters who post rage and intolerance aimed at other parents and their parenting. They're either disruptive trolls or carry such immense fury inside that their lives must be very difficult. Using women on here as their punchbag isn't acceptable but at the end of the day, it's up to Mumsnet to decide what constitutes the boundary between free speech versus being abusive to women and parents.

Howlerhog · 15/08/2026 15:39

I really cannot see how any caring parent would encourage a child to think transitioning would be a good idea. Encouraging a child to think they can change sex - when they can’t - and that they’ll be fully accepted by society as their more sex - when the rightly won’t be - is truly abhorrent.

>>>What was the outcome of the conversation? How is she “racist”, I’m imagining it’s some nonsense about Harry Potter characters.<<<

There was absolutely nothing to the alleged isms/phobias except 'someone said she did/is'

Yes, my 13 year old daughter tells me things that she's alleged to have done, because someone told her. I sent her JKR's essay - silence, although she said she's read it. A couple of months ago, she stormed up to me triumphantly and shouted,

"LOOK what the Hag has said about asexual people! It's disgusting and transphobic."

I reminded her that we don't discuss this and that eye rolling and snippy replies aren't the same as a million rape and death threats. Apparently, that makes me a bigot, although why people without any interest in sex need a special day is beyond me, as nobody knows. Unless they decide to wang on about it, for attention.

Asexuality also has nothing to do with gender identity, so JKR's comments on aces aren't transphobic. Your DD's critical thinking skills aren't great.

BackToLurk · 15/08/2026 15:50

Anyway, inciting a crowd to hate people is deeply unpleasant. If you’re in the baying mob, you can try and convince yourself you’re a ‘good guy’, but you probably aren’t.

Absolutely this.

Weird that 'gleeful transphobia' is crime of the century <undefined and unquoted transphobia> but 'gleeful sexism' is all approved.

Got it 🙄

Oh damn, I love Loyle Carner, he certainly wasn’t spouting bollocks about JKR when I saw him perform last year and he played Horcrux. I’m assuming that he has had backlash for the song and is too weak/“kind” to not have to tow the line 🙄

I love that it's very acceptable and understandable to declare your love of Harry Potter as long as you denounce his creator.

What? Are you talking about Khelif? A 'cis' woman? Good grief.

Supposedly a 'woman' from a very conservative country, who has no qualms about wrapping their thighs round their trainer's neck and being paraded round. Use your imagination to think what would have happened after this display if an actual woman had done it.

The other thing young people need to learn, is that opinions are not aggressive acts. There’s a surprising acceptance of people who say all the right things but actually commit crimes and hurt people, versus people who have done a huge amount of good but whose opinions are unpopular.

This is so spot on!
