I can’t wait to see who drafts my girl Enes Kanter Freedom. 😂

In a video, the former New York Knicks and Boston Celtics star said: 'After careful consideration and reviewing the current eligibility guidelines, I’m officially declaring myself a @WNBA prospect.

'If simply declaring who you are is all that’s required, then I meet every single requirement necessary to compete in the WNBA.

'My team and I have carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion. Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027.”

”See you at training camp.”

off topic, but jesus, the size of him. blimey

Not off topic. His size is totally relevant.

murasaki · 08/08/2026 15:04

Given there will be metric based fitness tests etc, I can't see how he won't come top, and therefore not picking him will make no sense, and his lawyers will be on it. Bring it on.

His size is the point.

They are not .....just like us....

One thing we can probably be sure of is that even though the two male basketball players are supporting women (they are right? I'm not familiar with this particular dust-up yet), the reporting will be totally about trans "rights".

Women's rights will continue to be completely obscured by the Somebody Else's Problem field.

I shall enjoy watching this one.
Good lads.

Looking on X and there are now quite a few men doing the same and putting up videos similar to this one from XX-XY Athletics. The next couple of weeks should be pretty entertaining.

Remember Avi Silverberg?

So stunning and so brave 💃

LOVE this for him....

I hope some of his ex team mates join him to really highlight what nonsense this is.

I 100% think this will happen.

This is what an ally looks like....

What a lovely, lovely man, to stick his head so far above the parapet in support of women athletes.

At 6’ 10” his head must be so so so far above the parapet. The parapet is a dot to him.

Yes, this is what stunning and brave looks like 😂

It's going to be fun watching teams tie themselves in knots figuring it all out....

The WBNA have now issued a statement. I've no doubt that they will try everything to wriggle out of not accepting any of the guys that are putting themselves forward to play - probably accuse them of not being 'true trans' or some such

😂 they don't have a clue how to respond, do they?! Hate, blah blah, inclusion (of men, natch), blah blah blah. They know this is shining a spotlight onto their nonsense and that's all they can come up with.

murasaki · 08/08/2026 17:26

Inclusion of men bar Enes, obviously. Go Enes, fight for your rights!

nicepotoftea · 08/08/2026 17:32

The other thing they need to do is confirm that gender non conforming men are welcome in their league.

BettyFilous · 08/08/2026 17:40

I see fairness isn’t mentioned in the WNBPA statement with their other lofty aims.

Indeed. In their rush for 'equality' they've forgotten equity.

Such a po-faced statement by WNBA 🙄

Even if it had been mentioned, we know they would have meant fairness to men, not women.

SinnerBoy · 08/08/2026 18:10

He's going to get the full on female experience, if he's recruited. A massive pay cut...

But they aren't protecting women's sports unless they believe that men can change sex.

He's bottom end of the average height range for the position he plays, it just goes to show how completely ridiculous it would be for him to play against women if he decided he was trans.

The first trans person I met was a huge hockey player, way, way bigger than an average man. They had to ask him to voluntarily withdraw from the women's team and to be fair to him he did. Though how he ever thought it was reasonable to play for a women's team in the first place completely escaped me.

Igmum · 08/08/2026 18:34

Good lads. And ironic that they’re doing it just as all the women’s coaches and officials are saying that they would LOVE to have TiMs on their teams 🤦‍♀️. It’s telling that they’re both retired players but even so this could be a bit of a Spartacus moment. Imagine EVERY retired NBA player opting for WNBA.

Now come on WNBA, change the rules.

LesbianNana · 08/08/2026 19:01

Oor Soph just wants the rules followed, is all. I love her side-eye, by the way.

It seems like lovely Enisha has all the bases covered. 🤷‍♀️

And with the recent salary increases the WNBA has seen, it seems like a great career move for the lass during his retirement from the NBA.

The NBA-to-WNBA pipeline: because apparently retirement is no reason to stop playing professionally.

'I know my presence on the court will stir up strong opinions. I am definitely not here to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices.

I’m simply asking that the current rules be applied equally to everyone - the rules that represent the very values many WNBA players and coaches have publicly advocated for.
'My team and I are prepared to ensure these guidelines are applied equally, consistently, and without exception, and I look forward to the #WNBA honoring its stated principles.
