I'm sure this has probably been discussed elsewhere, but if the evidence they have, and it's the only evidence they have, doesn't meet the level of criminality but they still want to interview you, how does that ever get approved?

I know they want to put you through a process, but it was my understanding that this 'come down the police station otherwise you'll be arrested' interview was in order to gather more evidence.

But if the evidence is tweets, surely that doesn't apply.

I'm probably wasting my thoughts on this, but it fucking annoys me that there's no normal part of the process that stops this from happening.

Because they hope that they incriminate themselves into something else, and they do not want a judicial review as then the process becomes THEIR punishment so better to throw someone else under a bus.

Yep, pretty much, the police "service" is very very misogynistic and also utterly captured by the Stonewall "law". They also always believe that the police are right. In a past life I worked with the mental health act 1983 and visited police stations in that role, the number of times police officers told me a garbled version of the law (which coincidentally allowed them to behave in illegal manners) was astonishing. I have had more than one stand up argument in a custody suite about it, and had to stop them violating a patients rights.
