The problem is that most people will open the door if the police knock. You assume there's been a crime nearby or an emergency.

I've seen several cases recently where officers have turned up over online complaints instead which are very much one party against another. It feels more like intimidation than good investigation.

If the police want to interview someone, send a letter and let them arrange a solicitor. If there's enough evidence to justify an arrest, then arrest them and they'll have access to the duty solicitor.

Doorstep interviews risk people saying or signing something simply because they're frightened or just want the officers to leave, especially women because of the fawn response to stress. That's not a sensible or fair way to investigate.

The police wouldn't get anywhere phoning here in the early hours. My husband switches his phone off overnight. We don't have a landline. I keep mine on but I have it set so that only calls and texts from certain numbers would get through. Perhaps the police can override that. I hope not.

Never say Yes when the police ask if they can come into your house. Anything they see that can be construed as dodgy can be used against you.

Exactly. They don’t need to turn up mobhanded for a fucking tweet misgendering someone or joking about them in a mildly offensive way. It’s not even a crime in and of itself, and very unlikely to be deemed harassment/malicious communication in court in the absence of anything stronger.

Dunno about snoballs (coconut is the Devils Dandruff) but Teacakes, particularly the dark chocolate variety, are good from the freezer. Makes them easier to handle on hot days - the marshmallow but is still pleasingly gooey but a bit more al dente
