First time ladies pond, Hampstead

Went for the first time to the ladies pond in hampstead this week and had a blast. Definitely want to go back. I got naked in the open showers like others as i wanted to get the algae off of me. I’m aware of their current regulations but feel a bit alarmed by this.

Is it really the case that a man who identifies as a woman could come in at any point and start showering naked with his penis out and the staff would consider this to be fine? I’m a survivor of sexual abuse and this feels really alarming to me and puts me on edge about going. Are the other women who get naked there fine with this?

i also heard that women who identify as men are not allowed to swim topless in the men’s pond so it feels like double standards?

i feel really sad about it because it feels like it would be a lovely space to be nude and relax and feel free and safe around other women but now i just feel on edge that there could be a man around.

Trans ‘girl’. Trying to suggest that an adult male has all the vulnerability of a female child.

There is no such thing as “men who identify as women” or “women who identify as men” you’re either born transgender or you aren’t. You don’t identify as anything. But do go on with your fake story.

I see. No doubt you’re the kind of person who would expect me to believe that i had been raped by a woman if ‘she’ put ‘her’ penis in me non-consensually. Gaslighting of women to the max. Jog on.

How does one know?

PanicButton99 · 23/07/2026 11:34

So detransitioners were never trans in the first place then? My detransitioner mate said she used to be ‘as trans as you can be’

No. You’re either born male or female. Then you "trans" to the other sex. Except you don't because that's impossible. All "trans" people can do is ape the other sex.

PanicButton99 · 23/07/2026 11:45

How can people be born transgender if gender is a social construct?

I have never been as open water swimming is not for me.

I know women who have, and none of them have ever mentioned anyone born male appearing. I do however recognise that the possibility even if rare is unacceptable and the City of London should comply with the Supreme Court ruling.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 11:50

Would they mention it though? Some of these men boast about going, and there are lots of women who affirm them on the committee.

slug · 23/07/2026 11:53

I used to have a regular outing with friends at the Ladies Pond. We stopped doing this after a man in an inappropriate swimsuit just sat watching the showers.

We’re in our 40s to 60s so we’ve all seen a lot but the sight of the very bad tuck and escaping balls will go with me to the grave.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2026 11:57

Fucking grim.

Bully for you. Others have had a different experience. It's not a non issue to them and it clearly isn't a non issue to the OP.
The fact is, there is currently a potential for a woman to encounter a naked man in the showers there. You don't get to decide that this is a non issue for the women affected by this.
Those women are likely to self exclude from what is supposed to be a woman only space. This is discrimination against those women and its shit.

I used to swim there. I don’t live in London any more, but I thought I might take my daughters there when we are in London. I absolutely will not go while men are allowed in. I have a good reason for this, not that I need any reason other than NO.
Yes there has always been the occasional perv creeping around trying to watch the women, and swiftly dealt with, that is different from allowing men in to use the pond and showers.

slug · 23/07/2026 12:01

Indeed. A few of our group were, up till that point very TWAW.

Not any more..

Sorry - touchtypers? is there something wrong with being a touchtyper??😄

Yeah!

I (F67)n worked in the computing industry for 35 years and still regret not learning to touch type. (We didn't as we were worried we'd be seen as sekketaries, in a way the men weren't.)

Half right. There is no such thing.

Well done, nearly there.

Newstartplease24 · 23/07/2026 12:32

the pond is over. As soon as it was made into a battle ground of any kind, it lost what made it special. No “side” can “win” now. It’s gone

agree its a non issue- not something that comes up in real life, just angsty touchtypers at home writing about it.

Yeah, because men NEVER try to access women and girls in a state of undress for sexual kicks.
I was once punched by a transwoman in a single sex dormitory, because I dared to put the light on to get undressed. The punch came after I'd unknowingly undressed in front of him (I assumed that the person seemingly asleep in a single sex dormitory (this was pre the trans era) was actually a woman). I was later told by the police that he was on a cycling holiday, with a whole load of unwashed sex toys with him. They also received a complaint that he'd exposed himself to a girl in a women's public toilet.
It never happens though.

I am so sorry. It's just fucking miserable that this stupid man has taken this from you.

Since there is a perfectly suitable mixed pond, I see no reason for any trans person to need to access the incorrect sex pond. I just don’t get it. Why wouldn’t they just use the mixed space.

KilkennyCats · 23/07/2026 13:27

Justme56 · 22/07/2026 17:54

They are obviously aware that it could happen as they are planning to spend money on creating new facilities. Does seem a bit odd if it’s a non issue that they would be prepared to find £1 million to do it.

What new facilities are planned? There’s a men’s pond already, they could save the £1m by just forcing people to use the pond in line with their sex.
Why don’t they?

Transgender people aren’t using the “incorrect pond” I hope that helps.

If there are no men who identify as women, what exactly is a transgender person?
I love being lectured at by someone who doesn’t understand the issue themselves, but still insists everyone else is wrong.
