Thought it might be useful to find points of commonality.

Ever the optimist! 😊

  1. Gender stereotypes can be restrictive and limiting.

I would take that as a "Cut-Me-Own-Throat-Dibbler" imitation and laugh at it.

Another sign for those who wish to believe that both sides are as bad as each other and that feminists are just as bad as the male people who demand that their subjective reality that is not reflective of material reality is treated as being materially real.

For those without twitter, Menno videoed this sign at Pride

‘90% of pigs in the UK are gassed to death, but terfs still exist’.

Then there is this one complete with throat slitting action.

Notice that the person doing the slitting the throat action is masked up and the people that the masked activist has recognised have no masks and and are not acting in any way intimidating.... I believe this was at Pride, which both the people the activist has done the slitting of the throat symbol at are there as part of the LGB umbrella.

But... sure... 'both sides'.

There really is no fucking symmetry.

Even if the twitter algorithm throws up the worst examples of abuse from people who oppose sex based rights, and that sign is not representative, the lack of sincere posters presenting a more coherent argument is notable.

People on MN argue vehemently over religion, the economy, breastfeeding, dogs off lead, children at weddings, abortion, grammar schools, assisted dying. These are obviously topics on which people have very strong feelings, but posters representing both sides of an argument are still able to explain a logical point of view.

Obviously MN forums are now known for defending sex based rights, but I don't think it was widely discussed before self ID was proposed. Where were the reasonable voices presenting an opposing argument in 2015? Where are they now?

As an aside, I think 'self-ID' was when the argument lost all connection with logic.

I think before that point there was a sincere belief that if a woman is 'X', advances in medicine would enable a man to fit the criteria for 'X'. There are all sorts of problems with this, but theoretically it could make sense.

Self ID just blasted through the idea that legislation and policy should be based on objective shared understanding of words.

Yes around 2014/15 the framing of “trans rights” shifted, both here and in the US.

Masks are all part of the costume when LARPing as women. The publicity for Trans Pride 2026 invited attendees to "Use masks, Bring signs, Wear flowers"

As *Helleofabore'*s shows, these people want to kill us. Why on earth would we want to try and find common ground with them?

murasaki · 26/07/2026 16:19

Well masks are kind of needed for many, passing isn't working.

But yes, the violent threats seem only from one side, and doing it with a mask on is cowardly. Own your bad behaviour.
