He was a candidate for the Scottish Greens.
Just amended that as got the pronoun wrong.

Edited

Aside from being offensive, his comment is just so puerile. Of course, this is par for the course for both Scottish Greens and trans activists.

I don't think it's a matter for the police, but I do feel it's one for the Uni, for bringing them into disrepute. Then again, Ann Widdecombe herself defended the right to free speech, and unpleasant as the comment may be, it's not threatening anyone. Hmm.

These are the online posting rules for Aberdeen University, I may have just asked them on their FB page, whether the comments made online by Herbert breached these rules.

The University of Aberdeen requires online behavior to mirror real-world standards. Under its IT policies, students and staff must not share abusive, discriminatory, or unlawful content. Posting comments that harass, incite violence, or bring the university into disrepute can trigger internal disciplinary procedures.

No Harassment: Abusive, inconsiderate, or discriminatory behavior is strictly prohibited.
Maintain Professionalism: Do not post anything that could cause needless offense, concern, or annoyance.
Protect Information: Do not leak confidential, commercially sensitive, or personal university information.
Accountability: Your online actions are subject to the same internal disciplinary rules and laws as in-person conduct.

Ah in that case, he's definitely breached the first two requirements. Abusive, inconsiderate, needless offense (did they really say that, not 'offence'?).

a lot of the hatefull comments were posted before it was revealed she was murdered. Having said that its still unpleasent and to my mind if the hatefull posts are still on the culprits social media then its irelevent when it was posted. A lot of these hatefull comments were from people i followed who professed to have compassion and were activley campaigning against racism ect. They are the lowest of the low in my opinion and they give everyone on the left a bad name.

He's doubled down since and is still clearly very proud of what he said.

Yes, but comments about being hand-cuffed to the bedposts really don’t apply to someone dying of natural causes due to old age. I don’t believe Herbert wrote that sort of thing before it was well understood that a third party was involved in her death.
He shows us who he is. It’s a very male comment about inflicting torture on a female. He has no idea what it means to be female, he is a male fantasist.

Lovelyview · 13/07/2026 11:39

I don't think police should be involved. I do think he's breached his employer's social media policy and they should take action against him - some kind of written warning. I quite enjoy his and 'Sophie' Molloy's pathetic frothing. They are not only going to lose, but they are the reason so many people see transactivism for what it is. A misogynistic men's rights movement. Every time they open their mouths they damage the cause they purport to support. (See also Bash Back and India Willoughby).

Try reading my post again - Anne defended the policy. The policy stated that handcuffs should be removed during labour. Unfortunately the policy was not always correctly applied which resulted in it's removal later when the risk of women escaping was deemed less damaging than the policy being incorrectly applied.

My recollection from the Róisín McAliskey case was that Category A prisoners were handcuffed to an official 'birthing partner' [not necessarily female] including during labour and birth.
I think it was changed after that case, and removal of handcuffs during labour and birth became the policy for all categories of prisoners.

Wishesandhorses · 13/07/2026 13:25

It is not against the law to be thoroughly unpleasant and unhinged.

On the plus side, had a chat with a friend today who is usually wholly oblivious to all this stuff, who heard of it and is absolutely horrified. I shall slip her a few more things to read so she comes to understand this is par for the bloody course, but I think her 'awww, so oppressed' bubble has been popped.

rumblegrumble · 13/07/2026 13:36

Fucking hell, can you please put a trigger warning before posting pictures like that - I've just bloody eaten 🤮

I'm not sure it's helpful to give someone like him attention at all, especially as presumably he makes money from it. He clearly gets pleasure from getting a rise from women, so says stupid, offensive things and then gets all excited watching the reaction. Who knows if he actually believes what he says, or whether he's just saying it to rile people up. Either way, I personally have zero interest in his opinion, or in playing his sick little game. Vile.

Daily Mail reports that they are a woman in the front page headline - if anyone has a mail+ account can you put the record straight in the comments? i'm aware i'm reaching a bit with the hope that any fwr poster has such a thing...

Fantasising about women suffering painful deaths is such a typically male trait. No amount of womanface can disguise it.

A male misogynist pig in lipstick is still a male misogynist pig.

So well said!

I had assumed that this sort of inhumane treatment was a thing of the past but it isn't.

The UK scandal of women handcuffed while in labour: ‘I was so shocked when the restraints weren’t removed’

Pregnant women prisoners in England are being handcuffed to prison officers – often male – during intimate vaginal examinations and long, agonising births. Will this dehumanising treatment be stopped?

I agree. I think posting the photo of himself on the toilet floor wasn't just for attention but to also repulse.

MaturingCheeseball · 13/07/2026 13:55

Actually someone I know gave birth at the Whittington (this was 28 years ago) and the woman in the next bed was handcuffed to an officer. Apparently the woman was very violent and it was for the safety of other mothers and their babies rather than preventing the woman from legging (waddling) it.

Someone in the comments in the National helpfully posted a link to the debate in Hansard and Ann Widdecombe's contributions

Holloway Prison - Hansard - UK Parliament https://share.google/4I1EittXctRsHByEo

But, as we're seeing regarding SSS, in some instances prisons and hospitals seem to feel they're able to decide what laws and guidelines they follow and which they don't.

Regarding Heather Herbert's comments, if he'd posted he didn't like her, he was glad she was dead, that she was a bigot, that's unpleasant but fair enough. The specificity of 'screaming in agony', is nauseating and far too close to the bone when so many women experience just that at the hands of men. Whether they survive it or, as appears with Ann, it results in their death.

I hope he never experiences anything like that. I won't even wish infection on him. As to whether or not he keeps his job, that's up to the university.

cornflakecrunchie · 13/07/2026 14:26

I hope that THING is the most hated 'person' in Aberdeen & can't go out anywhere.

Iamnotalemming · 13/07/2026 14:48

The misogny is never far from the surface, is it? God it's awful.

INeedAPensieve · 13/07/2026 14:52

I think Herbert self identifies as all three of these things (of which Herbert categorically is not):

"Young"
"A woman"
"delightful"

Truthfully Herbert is just a bog standard misogynistic male.

RIP to Ann Widdecombe and I hope the murderer is found soon and charged. Regardless of her politics, nobody deserves what happened to her.

These men reveal how truly pathetically awful they are with these comments. I'm doubtful that the university that employs him will do much tbh. Trans idenfitied males in Scotland seem to have special privileges to do what they like, particularly in universities, government and public sector. I'm reminded of big "Beth" Douglas and those awful pictures with his knives and the threats etc and yet our parliamentarians still stood up to applaud "Beth" et al at Holyrood. The more ordinary people realise the depravities of these men the better, abhorrent as it is to be shown the type of people they are.

The Mail seems to be planning a follow up article as they have added at the top:

"Do YOU know Heather Herbert? Email [email protected]"

(I hope tis does not break MN journalism rules. It is a direct quote from the DM....and if there are tales of everyday misogyny that people are able to share, it would help bring TRA bullying out into the open.)

This is the man who posted a picture of himself lying on the floor of a 'disabled'
toilet at an airport, using a dilator on his surgical wound. Lovely young thing.

adragoncalledaudrey · 13/07/2026 15:18

I am almost certain that if I had posted the same comments about HH, I would be getting my collar felt.

For folk who claim to want to be part of the sisterhood, they don’t half show their abject hatred towards women sometimes/often.

HH opened their mouth and a man spoke.

The University will likely do nothing.

What a wonderful message to send to the women who attend their establishment.

Ah now, do you not know that's one way traffic?

@porridgecake "All the rape and death threats inciting violence against women, the assaults and abuse of women in public, and the police just stand, complacently watching. It is infuriating."

The police don't always just stand by watching. They're often the perpetrators.
