Lucy Connolly was inciting violence. There are limits on free speech. Herbert was promoting violence - I'd be happy to see him jailed. Has anyone on this thread defended Lucy Connolly as opposed to saying the same rules should indeed apply to Herbert? edit as one word got repeated.

Edited

Exactly. Either charge this dangerous lunatic or scrap the law and have a chaotic free for all online forever. At least be consistent. I'm not a free speech absolutist. ' Freedom of speech does not include the right to shout 'Fire!' in a crowded theatre '. ( Can't recall who said that )

LuckyHazelFox · 16/07/2026 09:10

Lucy Connolly inciting violence? Amazing how many women were happy to see a white woman banged up when we've got Labour letting rapists out early. Never mind, the saviours will put race over the safety of women. Again.

anyolddinosaur · 16/07/2026 09:44

@LuckyHazelFox Se was reported to have said “set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards” That's encouraging murder. Letting rapists out early is a separate discussion.

Herbert was encouraging violence against women - jail time would be appropriate for him.

Containment breach!

The press are now reporting about previous online threats and abuse and about the polycule.

Uni worker probed over Widdecombe death jibes in 'bullets threat' video with pal
Susan Smith, of the prominent For Women Scotland group, said action needs to be taken over extreme views now coming to light from Herbert and other trans campaigners involved in the Aberdeenshire-based “Polycule”. For Women Scotland campaigner Smith claim she and her colleagues have been called child abusers, terrorists and bigots by Herbert and other campaigners on a web channel called the Polycule.

Whilst I generally try not to judge people on appearances, there is an interesting contrast in the image of the ‘Polycule’ here, and Amnesty International’s portrayal of typical trans rights activists (image loading).

What a delightful “young woman” comments on Widdecombe death

I don't know why they feel the need to display those sentiments. Most decent people have no problem with LGBT. It's more that the T part have problems with us. I often feel there's a showcasing and demand for attention. We are happy to let them love who they do/be who they are, and women expect the same in wanting the basic need of
single sex spaces. It's really quite simple.

MaturingCheeseball · 16/07/2026 11:06

I was reading about the Bash Back organisation. I know they all look like complete weirdos but they are not harmless if they’re urging violence - let’s face it, they are men advocating physically attacking women. If they weren’t in frocks they would not get a free pass.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/07/2026 12:22

Strangely my first reaction was sadness. Not because I thought he didn't deserve to be arrested, that's a decision for the Police. I think it's because that he chose to publicise the actual hatred that's inside him. The sadness is because the hatred was there. I hope he has a think about who the bad guy actually is.

They're not just urging violence they are already committing violence.

Herbert has been arrested and charged.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2ln31g8gvo

Good. Now can we please see this all over the mainstream news.

murasaki · 16/07/2026 12:28

The bbc seemed to be the only people to report it when I saw ìt on another thread and checked to see if it was true.

And given their previous reluctance to report on such things, I'll take it as gospel at this point. The Guardian and Independent will probably ignore it.

Well, the BBC is mainstream, but I know what you mean. It would be nice to see it in the guardian and also the main page of the BBC website, not just tucked away in the Scotland north section.

I do note that in this article they have dropped the "she" and so not use any pronouns to describe "Heather" but also have not indicated either way what sex "Heather" is. Usually they will say trans woman or something, but it's not mentioned. I can't decide if this is progress or not! Most of the Scottish press is saying it clearly.

OneJustPinkAnt · 16/07/2026 12:28

If he'd been correctly reprimanded for all the other hateful things he's said he might have thought twice but due to the get out of jail card the TRA's all seem to have he's become emboldened.

Hopefully there's a few people looking over their shoulders today and thinking about their behaviour (I doubt it though sadly).

SidewaysOtter · 16/07/2026 12:29

Crowdfunder for legal representation and sad-facing about 'heavy handed treatment' and 'police harassment' in 5...4...3...

And quite possibly #FreeThePolyculeOne?

murasaki · 16/07/2026 12:31

And Watson on speed dial to try to get it cancelled.

It didn't seem to say what the charge is though, unless I missed it?

SidewaysOtter · 16/07/2026 12:40

Looks like "Heather"'s Blue Hair account has gone too.

As has the other polycule member - Poppybear.

Looks like Sparkles is the last man standing.

SirChenjins · 16/07/2026 12:47

Police said a 50 year old has been arrested.

They just can't bring themselves to say man, can they?!

Excellent news though - any update from Aberdeen Uni or are they still looking into things very carefully? So carefully, in fact, that it will take weeks and weeks and hopefully everyone will forget about it and women will just go back to being kind...

murasaki · 16/07/2026 12:47

I can't see how it's not bringing your employer into disrepute given they're being name checked in every article.

Very good point. Much as I thoroughly despise him, Rudy Giuliani had a point with his broken windows strategy. If you take care of the little things, they don't become big things, as people take more care. A rap over the knuckles a while ago might have meant this didn't happen. It's the 'I'll get off scot free whatever I do' attitude, for which I can't blame him, as all the evidence led to it being true, that has got him to this point.

Excellent, no choice for Aberdeen uni now.

You'd think so....the reputational damage is pretty big right now. And the current UK year 12s and Scottish Higher students are thinking about where to apply, booking their open days etc....

murasaki · 16/07/2026 13:16

Effectively because the media won't point out the trans identity, and that's fine, it's about what was said, not who he identifies as, they're using Aberdeen University as the hook to hang it on. Which isn't looking good for them while they do nothing.

ALovelyPinkUnicorn · 16/07/2026 13:20

Well Aberdeen Uni put a lecturer under a stressful year long investigation for being gender critical and playing the Harry Potter soundtrack am sure!
