I think these might be imaginary children to go along with the imaginary sex changes.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 13/07/2026 11:48

So weird how TRAs reduce the lived reality of sex and all the physical and social differences that come with that, to /checks notes/ "genitalia"

Yes dear. It's nothing to do with the exploitation, abuse, dehumanisation and marginalisation that the female half of humanity has faced and still faces because of our sex, we just don't like the look of willies 🙄

Utter fuckwits the lot of them. I think I actually have more respect sometimes for the liars who pretend they don't understand why it matters because they simply don't care about women's interests than the ones who are stupid enough to actually believe what they write.

The fact you keep calling trans women is indicting of your knowledge in the topic so I will be no longer responding to your asinine comments. CIS if you went to school and had any language classes is written in Latin. However “gender criticals” aka transphobes do not like to acknowledge that.

I'm sorry, I can't understand what you mean, despite your word choice and awful grammar, but cis doesn't mean what you think. It IS Latin, but it's a positional / geographic prefix.

It means "on this side of," as in Cisalpine Gaul. Gaul was on both sides of the Alps and what was across the Alps was Transalpine Gaul.

Transw, who think mistkenly, that they have transformed into women, not gone to the other side of women, have failed to grasp the etymology and use of the word.

That's quite some torture of the English language right there. Even just the first sentence takes a bit of unpacking.

Good fucking god.

They just do not have a fucking clue.

Good fucking god.
They just do not have a fucking clue.

But apparently male people should choose what toilet to use according to how they dress on the day.

That then leads to the issue in this thread below:

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5355097-the-guardian-trans-australian-kicked-out-of-toilet?page=1

A male person who uses male toilets without incident when ‘dressed masculine’ and yet says he cannot use the male toilets when he is dressed ‘feminine’.

I suspect that the guardian’s article didn’t get the emotional response that the man wanted because every single time a male person tries to make excuses for using female single sex provisions, more and more female people understand the issues are that those male people can never respect female people’s needs.

Hmm. I'm not sure what happened there! I tried to post and got a 500 error, closed the tab and got another. Went for a cycle, too the dog to the vet, came back and it's in triplicate!

Sorry!

WrongKindOfFeminist · 13/07/2026 14:01

You came back from the vet with two extra dogs? That's a bonus!

I got binned out with 500 error twice earlier, @SinnerBoy.

CompleteGinasaur · 13/07/2026 09:49

Have you ever noticed how serious looking guys in kilts almost never go "skirts go spinny"?

Well quite.

What I really really hate is when TRAs pretend that sex-realists disapprove of men in skirts, or feminine men (I have met Mr Menno and what a beautiful man he is).

We do not. Many of us don't mind it, approve of it or even fancy those who do it.

It's when they wear falsies, tell us they are better women than us because they've suffered like no woman ever has, and come into our changing rooms, THAT'S when we have a problem.

I am reasonably sure cispontine and transpontine were used to describe the respectable and disreputable parts of London in the sixteenth century; the playhouses were transpontine, on the other side of the bridge from where Godfearing Naice Folk were to be found.

SinnerBoy · 13/07/2026 14:26

Damn! It was "I can understand" and "I took the dog." Went with one, returned home with one, the same one, the right one, our one!

Yes, and in this context, it is necessary to understand 'cis' or 'trans" in relation to gender.

Gender Critical obviously believe that they are oppressed by gender, and therefore reject the analysis.

It isn't complicated.

nicepotoftea · 13/07/2026 14:32

'Do you live in 'cisalpine Gaul or trans alpine Gaul?"

'I'm sorry, I don't live anywhere near the alps'.

JanesLittleGirl · 13/07/2026 15:58

And how does Transpennine Express work? It provides rail services on both sides of the Pennines.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/07/2026 16:20

A good question! (I suspect that whoever named that line just thought it sounded good, without having investigated what it might actually mean.)

We might also wonder about transshipment, and transform, and transaction, and....

Not every use of a set of letters in English comes from the same root. That is because (in the words of James D Nicholl) "we don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary."

What, from "Trans-Europe Express"? Plausible.

It isn't complicated.

Gender Critical Feminists believe everyone is oppressed, or at best unnessesarily limited, by gender.

We see it as an entirely pointless and artificial limitation.

If something is innate to just one sex or the other it doesn't have to be explicitly and separately defined as gender, it's just part of being that sex. And if something typically associated with one sex or the other isn't in fact innate to that sex, just a cultural expectation overlaid on top, then the sensible thing to do would be to just .... stop expecting it, (or if it's a good thing, expect it of the other sex as well).

Incidentally, I'm sure I remember trains over the Pennines being called "cross-Pennine", back when I was living in York.

Same here. I wondered if there was some sort of attack on MN or if it was just something wobbly happening with their server. But since getting locked out of twitter by TRA, I was anxious that I'd be locked out of this site too. Glad that's not the case.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/07/2026 17:43

I was locked out of Mumsnet for much of the early part of my day. When I went to the Mumsnet login page I was repeatedly told there was a "500 Internal Server Error", and then about forty-five minutes later when I did get in I was already logged in, in spite of the fact that last night I logged out and turned off my browser as I always do.

The last bit actually disquiets me, since it suggests (or shows) that Mumsnet hangs onto my logins whether I have turned them off or not.

Because it crosses them, from one side to the other

Like a transatlantic airline, or a transatlantic ocean voyage.

OK. I'll do the final post. Moist and I have pointed out that 'trans' can have many meanings and trying to tie it exclusively to 'trans' Vs 'cis' is a load of bollocks at every level.
