Work of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) 20026-27 - Oral evidence, Mary-Ann Stephenson, Chair at Equality and Human Rights Commission and John Kirkpatrick, Chief Executive Officer at Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Considering the absolute balloons on this committee, it will be well worth a watch. Only Rosie Duffield and Rebecca Paul have any sense.

You can watch live on Parliament TV from 2.30pm

I think your response might be peak Mumsnet. It is staggeringly cruel and dishonest.

You don’t care about practical solutions or dignity. I’m getting the impression cruelty is the point. Why do you think we shouldn’t have an alternative space?

I am aghast that you can’t see the ludicrousness of your arguments. Your wants do not and never should trump women’s legal rights.
You are welcome to fight for a solution to your problem but not at the expense of women and girls’ rights. Your arguments are simply demonstrating why the Supreme Court ruling was needed.
Everything you write tells me that in your opinion, you are more important than I am, a completely male view of the world.

BUT ,there are a few who do look like real women, at least without paying close attention to details

I think you may be fooled by filters. I don't imagine any man can look like a women when in hospital without makeup. Their height, hands, voice and body parts always shout man. It's also important men are treated medically as men because observations are different for men and women.

That's why I said if you don't pay attention to details. I think there are a few who look enough like women that they would be at risk of assault when placed with men. It really isn't comparable to effeminate gay men as another user suggested , Gay men still look like men. I've said I don't think they should be in women's spaces. Third spaces are what trans activists SHOULD have been campaigning for over the last decade+. Clearly it's not what most of them want though.

You don’t have to be interested. I’m just fed up of prejudice and ignorance.

Oh I am VERY fed up with prejudice and ignorance...

I'm quite interested in this, actually. It's the epitome of "Be Kind 2.0 and the Persuasive TRA." Reading with interest and taking notes.

Ah peak mumsnet - is that what we call a misogynistic dog whistle?

Sir?

Practical solution - you stay in the mens where you belong. Absolutely fed up with this bollocks it's insane.

You know some men will sexually assault other men, right?

Sir you could not touch my nerves if you tried :D

Though if you could keep your ball bag out of ladies hospital wards that would be nice.

Oh bless you, you are absolutely furious, aren't you? Please take a deep breath

Edited

Of course I know that some men will assault other men. But do you really think that a man who has had a ton of surgery to look like Kardashian clone isn't going to be at increased risk? I personally do.

Of being laughed at, yes.

Ah, so it's a separate room for the dolls and the everyday men's ward for the bricks. Reddit will not be happy

Lol, well yes. But tough luck for them. I really don't think the likes of "Suzy" Izzard are going to be at much risk of sexual predation. That's all I'm arguing.

Reddit seems to think they all pass, so they'll be fine.

As a "just about" teenager I had to go to hospital. I was deemed old enough for the adult ward so was put in with very elderly women. I certainly didn't identify with any of my ward buddies. I just had to get on with it. It wasn't a great experience for me but I didn't demand or expect a single room despite being not actially being adult.

I would say this experience was more difficult than an adult man who has lived as a man, sharing a space for a limited time with other men.

The reason I was on an adult ward, rather than children's ward was because of biology. I had started to menstruate so that was the determining factor. Biology should always take precedence in hospitals.

I had that, at 15. It was horrid as I woke up after an eye operation only able to see out of one of them , and woozy from the anaesthetic, and thought I was surrounded by death.

It was still the correct place for me to be.

Well I suppose sorting the dolls from the bricks will keep some waste-of-space DEI manager from doing more harm elsewhere.

That's nuts. When my child had a long stay in hospital (very specialist area), the age range was newborn to 17 and 364 days! Not great for teenage boys and girls in the same room, but it was specialist enough that everyone just got on with it. People should be placed according to clinical need, not 'identities'.

I am only furious about your ball bag possibly being in a female ward

I am not furious about the fight. GC views have won. resoundingly. Your entire cause is dead. Celebrate.

Bet that annoys you though sir.

The cruelty in your response is absolutely staggering. And what does it have to do with validation? I’m not asking to be put on the women’s ward. I’m just asking not to be placed with men. For me, I would find that incredibly distressing because of how strongly I feel about not identifying with men.

So you scream and scream until you make yourself sick.
Adults are supposed to cope with problems.

I can cope with problems just fine. Why is that a problem I need to deal with when an alternative space could be provided?

Hang on - you framed the original question as "what to do when it's an alternative space isn't available". So that's what people are replying to. They aren't suggesting alternative spaces only because you specifically asked about what if they are not available.

Toys faux reasonableness before segueing into emotional blackmail and transperbole seem very familiar

Staggeringly cruel and dishonest.

Always with the hyperbole.
