New health secretary asked if he thinks TWAW- said he has changed his mind about this (as per Wes S) and supports single sex spaces on the basis of biological sex. As well he should, but still good to hear.

Agree. We need people in positions of power and influence to be saying this, even if we're inclined to dislike them or distrust their motives. I hope this is a considered statement and he's prepared to back it up with action to support the Supreme Court ruling.

It would be cruel to ask him exactly what it was that had caused him to changed his mind.

Cruel and as you rightly say counter-productive. But fun!

Are we going to have to shuffle every Labour MP into the health sex role to get them all to say this ffs?!

It will be interesting to hear the answer of junior health minister Stephen Kinnock the Minister of State for Care when he is asked the question. His daughter Camilla has had her breasts removed & now answers to the name of Milo.

On World at One, there was an item about trade union members now supporting Reform. Paul Nowak, General Secretary of TUC banged on about "not getting message across" and was asked about Durham council, now Reform, not funding the Pride march and trade unions stepping in. His reply showed how completely out of touch the unions are with the general public by saying that it is OK for councils amd unions to fund such events.
Also no mention of asking their members why they might support Reform.

It would be interesting and it’s likely that that has been a big issue for Labour.

(that was supposed to say health Sec!)

Did he explain why he changed his mind on this matter?

All the Labour politicians asked about this always cite the Supreme Court ruling as their moment of epiphany 🙄 They're all such 'rules lawyers' that apparently they need the SC to explain biology to them.

So there’s this thing called party discipline, all the parties tend to follow it unless they’re on one of their recently frequent leadership meltdowns. (God I hate that particular outcome of Cameron’s referendum!)

What excellent news!

He’s a politician so no doubt there is advantage in him saying this - but to say it now is quite unexpected and fabulous.

Especially as there are MPs who will now start campaigning to have the EA changed to match Australia’s situation…. I think we may soon have a lot to thank Sal Grover for. If not for her case many MPs might be unaware of the implications which are now being played out in Oz and which they’ll have no desire to be caught up in prior to the next UK General Election.

My question is what is happening behind the scenes in Westminster that has allowed this shift?

The Health Minister publicly saying he’s changed his mind and MPs now accepting the EHRC Guidance - maybe the year of procrastination and recent enslaught of negative court cases/tribunals/publicity has got us to the tipping point?

What has changed in the last few weeks in the unions and Labour Party to get us here when they were all previously no debate. Even my rabid TWAW MP seems to be softening (only slightly) their messaging on this… when only in April they were still hard line…?

Was it the May 7 local/Welsh/Scottish election results that did it?

If party discipline means deliberately lying to the electorate then I prefer outspoken backbenchers and independents who tell you what they're really thinking.

Cameron & co were not good for the UK's political landscape, it feels like we'll be cleaning up their mess for decades to come.

I think it’s fucking appalling that they’ve had to rely on lawyers rather than the basic scientific / biological facts that every farmer knows.

Proof positive that the patriarchy really does exist.

Well yes, there are deluded people who believe in a myriad of untrue things. But I wasn't referring to the mentally unwell.

Thinking with their "career prospects" not their brains. Gets you every time!

I suppose it's a change from what many men usually use to think with!
