Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

YouGov Poll shows what parliament would look like if only women could vote

FireBucket · 12/05/2026 20:50

Picturisation of the voting intentions of women aged 18-50 shows a parliament overwhelmingly stuffed with parties which are openly pro-trans.

When will the gender critical movement let go of the disingenuous narrative that they speak for or represent women when they clearly don’t?

All sitting round the urban middle class dinner table discussing how frightfully dreadful the working class is

Definitely a wind up

Totally. And Not very good at it

Male and female are outdated exclusionary terms now. We have various recognised identities including non binary and agender among many others. To deny people their existence is cruel and hurtful so please do better and look to educate yourself on the matter.

How many Genders are there?

OK, I fell for it.

Well done Bella. Poe's law in action.

I think it's a testament to the number of twits and wankers we get on here on any day ending in Y.

I won't be going into detail about that because, for some ungodly reason, people don't want to discuss the failings of working class communities on public forums such as this. That is despite the topic being incredibly popular amongst dinnertable discourse in the circles of my contemporaries but oh well, a sacred cow is a sacred cow and I will abide by the consensus of mumsnet. Allegory will suffice.

And for anyone who isn't there yet, the dinnertable discourse about the unwashed working classes should clinch it.

Well done Bella. Great wind up.

Coatsoff42 · 13/05/2026 09:34

Young women seem to be very concerned about the environment and the struggles of less fortunate people, they are accepting of gender non conforming people, but they don’t think you can actually change sex, they definitely don’t want mixed sports, and ultimately they vote less than older women.

Shortshriftandlethal · 13/05/2026 09:36

For space cadets everywhere:

"Female bodies are impacted differently than male bodies in outer space, with evidence suggesting that sex and gender play a role in how astronauts adapt to the space environment. While many physiological changes—such as muscle atrophy and bone loss—affect both, studies show subtle, significant differences in cardiovascular, reproductive, and sensory responses"

We do want to discuss them. Where do you think the working classes - and let’s be clear we are talking about people like nurses, lorry drivers, care workers, trades etc - where do you, and your charming friends, think they’ve ‘failed’?

Pingponghavoc · 13/05/2026 10:16

If male and female are outdated terms, who the fuck were yougov talking to about voting intentions?

Not much point in looking at their voting intentions if they don't vote. And if their intention is not to vote, then which party they would vote for if they did bother to vote is irrelevant.

When will the gender critical movement let go of the disingenuous narrative that they speak for or represent women when they clearly don’t?

@FireBucket You don’t seem to be able to look at the detail that makes such a statement as yours badly flawed.

Firstly, you narrow the first part of your OP to 18-50 year olds. Then with this sentence you seem to be excluding 50+ women from being in the group ‘women’. Or did you mean ‘speak for ‘all’ women’ when in reality no feminists have the illusion their views represent ‘all’ women’s views.

Either way, the most basic flaw, as has been pointed out by quite a few others, is that you equate voting Green as being automatically supportive of male people accessing female single sex provisions. Perhaps you have missed the court cases coming up about women’s treatment within the Green Party where women have been poorly treated for not supporting male people accessing female single sex provisions?

There are plenty of women who vote Green who don’t support male people accessing female single sex provisions. (Imagine if they were not mistreated and could speak freely!)

The majority of 18-50 women also have said they dont support male people accessing female single sex provisions in polls specifically asking that question.

Your point above is overly simplistic and the chart (is it even a reputable source ) has little bearing on your point:

When will the gender critical movement let go of the disingenuous narrative that they speak for or represent women when they clearly don’t?

Posters usually post a direct link to the YouGov website when they post a diagram like this. It would be useful to have the link OP.

So, no link and no return of the OP.

Which is such a shame as I'd love to find out if men 50 over should also be disenfranchised or if it's just the women.

If it is just the women do trans women get to keep voting passed 50 🤔

Ha ha ha ha ha!

Is this a piss take?

I have a sneaking suspicion based on some extremely offensive classist posts over threads yesterday that it is indeed a piss-take!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/05/2026 11:36

Let’s say my instincts have been honed from years on FWR.

Yes, it would be like a survey asking young men what their favourite brand of flat cap is, when very few will wear one anyway.

ParmaVioletTea · 13/05/2026 12:30

CassOle · 12/05/2026 21:06

Apparently not one that counts to the OP.

There has been some horrific agism on here recently from pro-gender identity posters.

Indeed.

Well, if I don't count, I might stop paying tax. I pay a lot of tax.

NoisyBuilder · 13/05/2026 12:39

Scrolled thru to see how the OP refuted the claims that their 'info graphic' was a load of made up shite from an insta account.
But to my shock it was nothing but a TRA plop scold!

How will I ever be converted from my bigotry to the right side of history when the rightious won't share their secrets?

Sad times.

People decide who to vote for across a huge range of issues.

It’s not a proxy for “Are you ok with male people in women’s single sex spaces/ refuges/ prisons/ taking women’s awards/ taking women’s prizes in sport?”

It could just as easily be a proxy for “Do you want a more progressive taxation system?”

If you want to know what women think about allowing all males who say they are trans into women’s spaces/ sports/ refuges/ prisons etc, then you would have to ask them that instead of just asking about voting intentions.

I know you are desperate to scold us for wrong think, but this is a stretch.

I agree. I'm in the US where we only have the 2 parties and I always vote Dem even though I disagree with them on a number of issues - trans being just one. But I disagree with Dems far less than I disagree with republicans especially Trump.

Make no mistake, when I vote Dem it is by no means an endorsement of all their policies it's simply a rejection of the other set of policies I think that, overall, are worse. But there are actually some individual stances the Republicans have I think are better than the Dems, trans being just one. But if going with GOP means going with Trump and MAGA, no thank you!

Would be nice to be able to vote for a candidate I actually like vs. the one I hate the least.

I saw that infograph during the local elections debacle and I found it heartening that so many women have the courage of conviction to vote for the only political party that wants to make this country better for everyone.

Of course like in all things, men have to go ruin it by voting Reform in their droves. Clearly they need some more lessons in toxic masculinity because it's not sinking in just yet.

But yes, it is pleasing to know that women are absolutely on the ball when it comes to the environment, trans rights, being a sanctuary for refugees fleeing oppression around the world and taxing the wealthy class who hoard their money like Smaug.

With luck, by voting this way all these droves of 18-50 year old women will also get bigger boobs, learn about how the Red Cross can support them and not have to pay council tax for 3 years.

Edited for typo

ArabellaScott · 13/05/2026 16:24

An interesting point I saw made on social media came from someone who strongly supports Scottish Independence, who voted 2nd vote Green in Scottish elections to try to maximise the number of indie supporting MSPs.

Absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any Green policy.

Then there are also tactical votes to get this or that party out.
