Bluestocking Women’s Pub - it’s Maytime!

Welcome to any women who want the company of women!

Thats it really….ok so this place is staffed by gerbils with the occasional quokka or capybara but it functions like a friendly pub where you don’t have to know what’s going on all the time.
The drinks don’t intoxicate and the food is delicious yet healthy so please do come in.

Oh dear.
Colin appears to have overdone the profiteroles.
Gillian has cleaned the floor and popped the cravat in the washing machine. She was going to pop Colin in as well, but Clara stopped her just in time.

Colin is currently in the boot sink by the back door, being scrubbed down by a stern capybara. He thinks the washing machine would have been more fun.

Images are still being reviewed. I'll try one by one.

The line with the croquembouche collapsing majestically like the fall of a edible civilisation was a thing of beauty and had me laughing like a drain.

Thank you so much for this @MyrtleLion. You have reminded me why I absolutely loathe musicals.

Hedgehogforshort · 08/05/2026 23:05

Well i have been busy with my family of hoglettes and grand hoglettes, and am off on my canal boat for three weeks as of tomorrow. I suspect we will have moved threads by that time I am back so if someone could tag me when we move I would be soooo grateful.

Magnificent work @MyrtleLion Flowers <- a well deserved bouquet.

All I can say is...

“Vive la gerbil.”

(And that's saying something, I was bitten by a gerbil as a child so I am naturally rather suspicious of them now. Particularly the teeth.)

No, you should be proud. You have exposed the Musical triumph of sound and spectacle over the humdrum of simply telling a story on a stage.

Actually, all joking apart, you have told an amazing story that I have loved every word of, cleverly using the production of a Musical as a backdrop that provides a coherent framework for the self-actualisation of so many gerbils, Capybara, guinea pigs and dachshunds. An absolute tour de force!

I came in this morning to Colin still asleep in his basket, lots of tidying up going on and a large sign saying

OWING TO UNFORSEEN CIRCAM CIRCUMSTEN EVENTS BREAKFAST IS SELF-SERVIS THIS MORNING

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 09/05/2026 09:07

What a wonderful evening, but I don't think I want to see another cream puff for a whileEnvy

I'll just make myself a flat white coffee and a piece of toast and sit in the snug.

Magpiecomplex · 09/05/2026 09:24

Morning. I'll take a cream puff if anyone had the forethought to put them in the fridge last night. Anyone know how to fill the hot chocolate bowser? My brain woke me up in the middle of the night with a list of things I've forgotten to do. Most of them urgent.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/05/2026 09:25

BrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew
there’s a start with the brews. I don’t eat breakfast so you’re on your own for that.

I’d better take Colin out, in case he’s stlll a bit, um, delicate after consuming his body weight in croquembouche rubble. He’s probably fine and completely unrepentant - and tbf he did a good job polishing the floor.

You press the big button near the cheese larder marked ‘bowser refill’ and then choose whichever option you want - hot chocolate, gravy, pouring custard…possibly some other unwise and rarely used thick fluids. This will activate a Heath-Robinson mechanism so don’t be alarmed by the creaks, whirring and glugging which ensue.

I'm now pondering on what other thick fluids one could put in a bowser. White sauce? Bechamel sauce? Pancake batter?

PastaAllaNorma · 09/05/2026 09:52

Stupendous work by the cast and crew, @MyrtleLion .

I am on the train to London for the day on my own to see Proper Theatre, and to eat dinner in my favourite restaurant that always makes me feel like a much-missed family friend when I get there.

I relish these solo days of indulgence. No one to please but myself! No one to moan that we're going to the British Museum again or that I spent too long at a cheese shop.

The first two are probably a bit too thick, and the demand isn’t sufficient for a bowserful - you really don’t want leftovers congealing in it. That’s never been an issue with gravy on Sundays, custard or hot chocolate. I think it does do pancake batter but that’s really only used on Shrove Tuesday.

It is not physically possible to spend too long at a cheese shop!

Soups have their own dedicated system, and Clarice will COSHH you if you suggest using the food prep apparatus for inedible substances. Shock

It is if you can’t eat the cheese on the premises.
