Bluestocking Women’s Pub - it’s Maytime!

Welcome to any women who want the company of women!

Thats it really….ok so this place is staffed by gerbils with the occasional quokka or capybara but it functions like a friendly pub where you don’t have to know what’s going on all the time.
The drinks don’t intoxicate and the food is delicious yet healthy so please do come in.

Now you mention it...
Probably too warm for it, but I do have one.

If I was on the panel, one look at the jacket and it would be
'Excellent! when can you start, Dr Magpie?'
😁

I chose that image of 'woman wearing a teal velvet jacket' carefully, some of them might have got an entirely different reaction from the panel e.g.

Would you like us to turn the air-conditioning on so you could do up a few more buttons on your blouse, Dr Magpie? 😮

Good afternoon and thank you all for making me feel welcome.
Someone asked about my dog so here's Hunter, looking a bit scruffy after a deer chase this morning (no, he doesn't catch them but he forgets that every time)
He's a rescue, was abused and abandoned, been with us for 7 months now and I love the bones of him.

I sympathise with you in choosing the correct weight of clothes this time of year, it's so changeable. I think it would be better to err on the side of being a bit cold rather than being too hot, which is more uncomfortable I think.
Even if that rules out your teal velvet jacket😕

Thehorticulturalhussie · Today 14:10

And I have just wandered around the garden to see what's flowering, I have knapweed, periwinkle, bugle, forget-me-nots by the hundred, bladder and red campions, some rather fabulous scylla, lupins, astrantia, nepeta, woodruff, alliums, Atlantic poppies and Erigeron. What does everyone else have?
Super impressed btw to be in the pub with a published author. Awesome.

That was me, I asked about your dog - what a lovely looking dog he is, that's an amazing tail - and remarkably clean, if he's been chasing deer!
And a very noble and elegant demeanour, he looks like he'd give EmpressaurusKitty's kitty a run for her money in looking regalSmile

Colin will keep Hunter company outside, as he isn't allowed in - but Colin is excellent company and knows where all the best doggie treats are kept😄

Oh, he's lovely. I'd call that look smart casual, not scruffy. 😉

Hunter looks gorgeous - he has a coursing lurcher look to him.

Gorgeous I agree - I think he looks a bit Borzoi.

Thank you, you're very kind, Hunter waves a gracious paw in your direction.
He's a Saluki lurcher X. I would like to describe his previous 'owners' to you but the gerbils would have to reject me for unacceptable language and I only just got here.

I might sling it in the back of the car on the off-chance. It is a very nice jacket!

He looks very regal - does he have any Saluki in him?

Hello ladies
I’m new here but it looks like a great place to meet friends and gerbils.
Can my dog and I I come in please and can I have a large Bombay Sapphire and tonic?

Hello @Thehorticulturalhussie, and welcome to the Bluestocking.

I have to say that Hunter is a very handsome chap - and he looks very fast too.

MarieDeGournay · Today 15:25

Oh wow Magpie, that's a magnificent jacket! It looks like a small central European principality should come free with every garment purchased
😄
The one in the photo I posted upthread is a
Reiss Teal Parisa Velvet and Satin Single Breasted Suit Jacket.

Joe Browns, much cheaper than Reiss! I have a similar one in dark green brocade - I am an absolute sucker for military style coats and jackets. I almost stopped a woman on the Tube, years ago, to ask where she'd bought her totally gorgeous Russian military style grey with black accents double breasted coat, and regretted not doing so for months until I found a similar one in BHS.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · Today 15:35

That jacket is amazing, @Magpiecomplex! I imagine it would go with everything from a long satin skirt to a flowery summer dress to jeans.

MyrtleLion · Today 15:39

Deer-chasing?

Is that wise?

Colin can't wait to meet him!

Welcome to @Thehorticulturalhussie :-)

@AngleofRepose DH tells me Parsonsfield used to be in the northwest corner of Cumberland county, but is now apparently in Oxford county, where the casino is.

Southern Ontario had rather exciting levels of blackflies, mozzies and so on. It's all those zillions of lakes, I guess. Perfect nurseries for bitey wee bastards.

As a child, the central part between my braids was a dark line of@ tiny scabs from blackfly bites. I don't miss it.

I’d really like to know what a seated star jump is!

I could do with a repertoire of seated or standing Pilates-type exercises to do when I’m on holiday.

It's interesting what you find on the image galleries of old threads - a very entertaining pastime, not only are the images great but they make you think 'WTF were we talking about that prompted THAT as an illustration?!'

Is that you, Errol, doing a downward dragon?😄
