@BusyAzureTraybake thank you looks great x

BusyAzureTraybake · 13/04/2026 10:33

😁That article makes it look like the woke brewery bros pulled the event because they are pro-pornography.
Which, tbf, they probably are. After all, it was 'advice' from one of their drag queen customers that led to the cancellation.

MarieDeGournay · 13/04/2026 10:59

The writer of the article, Ashley Loveridge, clearly missed the real story: that the Brewery cancelled the event not because of 'concerns expressed' but because of their own censorship of the speakers because of their views on topics other than porn.

Ashley needs to get their trench coat and fedora on and track down the original post, and write about its implications, legal and otherwise.

AngryHerring · 13/04/2026 11:03

tbh i am ok with businesses acting like pratts and announcing their intolerances for all the world to see.

I liken it to not going to an Arsenal pub wearing a Spurs scarf. As long as you know, and you usually get the vibe of a place when you open the door, where you are, and what they are about it is all fine by me.

What is not fine by me is announcing it in an actionable and stupidly naive way like the pub did in their original fb post. I am definitely very much hoping that their clientele drops off a cliff (it will mean more business for other pubs in the area) and that they learn a lesson about how they take bookings in future.

The point of the evening was very clear, and it is a topic we should all (whatever our beliefs) should be taking seriously. Even if we disagree with it: then it is up to us to turn up to the event and make our point clearly, properly and respectfully.

As pp said, that article makes it look very much as they are pro porn. We will see how it pans out.

The Brewery do market themselves as family friendly. If the Stroud Times article gives a few parents pause for thought, then I am certainly not going to shed a tear.

I haven't had time to RTFT, but can someone please tell me if it has been ascertained that the feminist woman is taking them to court? Yes or no? Because I am desperate for that to happen and will kick in some gardening if need be.

Tallisker · 13/04/2026 11:25

I think she said advice is being sought, @ThatBlackCat

BusyAzureTraybake · 13/04/2026 11:58

If that becomes necessary, it will be signposted on this forum👍

Given who it is, and how experience her legal team are by now, it probably won't get to court.

I have no idea what JB will settle for, maybe them re booking the event so it can go ahead, or a public apologue and admitting that they a bunch of w * , who knows, but I doubt she'll drop the matter. 😁

The no doubt unintended consequence of the careless writing is that the brewery come across as having bowed to pressure from porn-addled male customers. I'm not sure that's the look they want.

Iamawomanofconstantsorrow · 13/04/2026 16:42

@MarieDeGournay @BusyAzureTraybake I think the Stroud times journalist did an excellent job of making them look like the twats they are, by implying they cancelled it because they think porn shouldn't be dissed. I think, reading between the lines, that he knew precisely what he was doing, what it was really about and also that he couldn't say a single word about the true nature of the cancellation or risk being cancelled himself

Thanks for the link.

So Stroud is EcoWoke. 😂

RedToothBrush · 13/04/2026 17:02

Craft breweries are blue haired patches and Stroud Constituency is a full on LD constituency.

In other words there's enough rich and out of touch gobby individuals that this has happened.

It needs challenging. It's my real beef with the scene which I otherwise love. It's got its head up it's arse.

Iamawomanofconstantsorrow · 13/04/2026 22:53

@RedToothBrush what's LD? It's a labour seat I thought, with loony green council

Parsley4321 · 14/04/2026 08:07

@Iamawomanofconstantsorrow we have a wet wipe labour councillor who is enthralled by all things green and trans

AddMoreJam · 15/04/2026 09:22

Hoping for the Streisand Effect to kick in here - would be lovely to see Pornocracy sales boosted as a result of all the publicity

Stumbled across this article in the Beeb

Stroud Brewery defends cancelling book event after public concern - BBC News https://share.google/bYmhUBSldKGUotpiN

Perhaps I'm wrong or just nitpicking but this

Jessel is a press officer for the LGB Alliance, a charity which supports lesbian, gay and bisexual people but not transgender people

I believe is arguably inaccurate. If a man with a trans identity is genuinely gay, not a bloke in a dress larping as a lesbian, I think he'd be welcome at the Alliance as a gay man. I think he might get short shrift if he insisted he was a straight woman.

I've issues with their explanation of gender critical too.

I'm confused - why did they publicly cancel a private event?
They could very well have gotten away with this...

Hardly. They would have to give the organisers a reason for cancelling, and they would probably have shared that with the media.
Public cancellation was probably a (failed) attempt to get ahead of the inevitable criticism.

LemonsAreCool · 16/04/2026 20:24

Stroud. Of course. Would have to be if it wasn’t Brighton. The MP used to be a doctor, spoken about issues for women in healthcare but doesn’t know what a woman is. He’s fully TWAW. So many issues in Stroud…. Critical thinking is in short supply. Lots of generational wealth / old money…. Goes to show money doesn’t buy smarts.

You’re not alone - there’s been quite a bit of confusion in online discussions around this because of clumsy wording by the brewery.

They described it as a ‘private event’ because it was not one organised by the brewery itself.

The book launch/talk/discussion was organised “privately” by a local feminist group but was very much aimed at and advertised to the public.

It all blew up because some local TRAs were upset because they felt that, by hosting this event, the brewery was tacitly showing support and giving a public platform to people with ‘the wrong views’.

The ‘private booking’ thing is a bit of a red herring.

@LemonsAreCool so many issues I don’t think it’s the old money as do much as the new hipster money coming in
