Just mentioning this news story where two journalists had a private event cancelled at Stroud brewery.

I think the brewery has mixed transpeople up with fairies

"Every time a child says 'I don't believe in fairies,' there is a fairy someplace that falls down dead."

It seems to be an easy mistake to make.

Fascinating. There are so many things that have been hiding in plain sight

That is some funny looking CPR.

Presumably Jo’s talk is about evidence that porn isn’t that great, particularly for women and girls.

So what exactly does the ‘we recognise that some content could challenge the identity and safety of members of our trans community, which conflicts with the values we uphold.’ mean? That she’s speaking about people who are producing/watching extreme pornographic content and feel afraid she’s going to call it out?

The way the Brewery have framed it, it sounds like they are harbouring offenders and their values are harbouring criminals?!? It makes them sound like they know their trans employees are up to no good. That’s not good optics or fair on trans employees.

We all know in any demographic there’s good and bad people. Presumably they have nothing to worry about so why stop it going ahead?

Updated list of things you can't organise in a brewery:

  1. a piss-up
  2. free speech

Thank you for that, Marie 😁

Parsley4321 · 11/04/2026 12:12

@Shortshriftandlethal full bloody on
it’s a proper virtue signalling hideous place

I left 22 years ago, and at that point it was mainly fire jugglers on stilts that I never wanted to see again. 'Trans' just wasn't a thing then. Nobody had heard of it, although, of course everyone had always known that some men liked to cross dress ,and some even 'took it further'.

I'm going with ignorance and stupidity here.

Some Omnicausers, either on the brewery's staff or in the area, have seen Jo Bartosch's name and, because she's on their no-platforming list, have demanded that the brewery cancel the booking.

It's quite possible they didn't even look at what subject she's discussing, at least initially.

soupycustard · 11/04/2026 12:52

Wow, the attitudes that are in plain sight never cease to amaze and depress me. The people TRAs pick on...just off the top of my head, a black lesbian, a lesbian rape survivor, a woman with a disability; now a bisexual woman and a gay man talking about how porn isn't totally fantastic for society.
I mean they really are just special and lovely aren't they. Rather than being the grown up version of the school bullies.

soupycustard · 11/04/2026 12:53

Oh and nurses.

Justme56 · 11/04/2026 12:59

There appears to be a drag queen who regularly performs at the venue. He said on SM that he was pleased to be involved in such a sensitive topic and was happy they had cancelled. It seems like the first port of call on most things these days is to ask a drag queen.

CassOle · 11/04/2026 13:00

I wonder how many complaints there actually were.

I wonder how many of the people who complained have OnlyFans accounts.

Tracked down the holocaust denier comment.

Has she now deleted it? I can’t find it.

The brewery are getting absolutely pasted in the comments though. 🤭 Very few comments in support of them.

NextRinny · 11/04/2026 06:58

I'm confused - why did they publicly cancel a private event?
They could very well have gotten away with this...

By doing it publicly, they were virtue signalling. Hopefully that will come back to bite them on the bum.

Yep.

And I'd love to see them scrabbling around, assuring everybody, that no, no, it was nothing about the pornography, it wasn't that, we don't object to that, we object to her opinion about something else entirely.

...and then trying to explain that. And then throwing their spade away in desperation, and jumping in the hole themself 😁

Datun · 11/04/2026 13:30

And yes those comments.

It's quite a revelation about exactly how informed all those Facebook users are and how unafraid they are to say so.

Gone are the days when a few lone voices were chipping in.

It's overwhelming criticism of Stroud Brewery and exhortations for them to lawyer up.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 11/04/2026 13:38

Of course, Rob Jessel is Co Founder of Fair Cop. 😂😂

I recall they've had considerable success in challenging the over reach by the Police and organisations pandering to the anti democratic bullies and silencers. Don't expect Rob will have any problems accessing first class legal advice about Stroud Brewery's fuckwittery

Datun · 11/04/2026 13:43

I forgot that! I knew I recognised the name.

Oh, they're fucked.

Indeed. I recall they've stated that 40% of their work now involves people being bullied for knowing that sex is binary / you can't change sex etc.

Chersfrozenface · 11/04/2026 13:53

I'm willing to bet that Stroud Brewery's staff have been living in a bubble with their fellow Omnicausers and have quite possibly never read anything contrary to their world view, lest they be polluted.

If they have heard of Forstater or other cases, I imagine it will have been via biased sources, for instance social media accounts such as the GLP's, so no wonder the councillor thinks their actions are legal.

It is very kind of posters on FB to advise them to consult lawyers. I wouldn't give such advice, I'd just watch them get hit with the letters before action out of the blue. I should probably work on my charitableness.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/04/2026 12:05

Here's the explicit statement that it was Jo's and Rob's gender critical views that led to the cancellation of the event.

Something else of note in this post:

"people who have concerns....can share them with the women involved"

I count one woman (Jo) and one man (Rob - obviously a man's name, too). Yet they put all the focus on the uppity, above her station, woman who dared to try and speak. Colour me surprised.

Someone should tell them. Ending with an exhortation to "Do better!"

LlynTegid · 11/04/2026 14:52

Is there a beer festival happening in the area soon? Perhaps if there is, campaign for Stroud Brewery to have any presence removed.

Isn’t that the Free Speech Union’s workload? The 40%? You know we like to get things right round here 😊
