Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Late night surprise about reputation of FWR

IwantToRetire · 10/04/2026 02:19

I was on Site Stuff to report back on ongoing freezing and noticed another thread about whether Mumsnet should apologise about deleting threads about ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

And there were some comments about there being a border line between legitimate criticism of Israel's policies and anti semitism. And it is this last that get these threads deleted.

So was surprised to see some comment on this thread saying it was as bad as some threads on FWR, and those particularly at fault are thos with a GC view point.

(Funnily enough AI suggested a title for this thread along the lines of "Are FWR debates judged differently ..... " but now it has hidden its suggestion, just when I was going to use it.)

Oh its come back

"Are sex and gender debates on FWR judged by different standards?"

Well, that's it.
I'm resigning!

Again with the bad news. You're a sock puppet. Your account isn't yours. It is owned and manipulated by the puppeteer who created it and gets paid by one or more fascist billionaires.

Sadly Edith, sock puppets don't qualify for payments from fascist billionaires. These payments all go to the sock puppeteers.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

As someone not currently receiving payment from the facist billionaires, I would very much like to rectify this situation. Any ideas as to how to do that?

I've asked this before, to no avail. Fuckers.

Hedgehogforshort · 13/04/2026 19:35

I tried writing a begging letter to JKR no joy 😪

DeanElderberry · 13/04/2026 20:07

I am not nor have I ever been a sock, but get the impression that these fascist billionaires all have very short arms that don't reach their pockets.

The only possible explanation.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 13/04/2026 20:14

If I were a sock, I'd be the one that always disappears in the wash.

JanesLittleGirl · 13/04/2026 21:24

I understand that the billionaires are directing their funds to @BoiledBeetle for onward distribution. Boily is working very hard to link usernames with bank accounts and would really appreciate everybody sharing their account details and passwords with her so that she can release those funds. She has only taken a small percentage for her personal use in order to deflect HMRC from the source.

Administration is expensive. I think ten percent is the regular amount. Billionaires are also asked to donate an extra 70p per donation to cover the credit card costs.

May I ask why you felt the need to start an apology with the word 'sigh?' In the UK, that pretty much says 'I can't believe I'm having to do this,' which rather spoils the point.

You've chosen to post on a UK forum, so it'd be only kind to make sure you don't inadvertently cause offence. I'm so sensitive that I had to have two extra chocolate biscuits (AKA cookies) with my tea when I saw I was being dismissed as 'quite intelligent' by someone I've never met. They were very nice, by the way, and I wish you well in whatever the future brings you.

In this case, the sigh denoted tiredness, as I really hadn’t meant to insult anyone. Having to apologise over and over for my well-meant compliment was an odd thing.

Helleofabore · 14/04/2026 06:20

Yes, being mischaracterised as hostile is exhausting. We understand.

Just curious - why do you often write in the plural as in the above post, “we understand”? Are you speaking on behalf of others or just yourself?

You might have missed a post earlier where I mentioned the reason for my often short posts. I have a late-stage degenerative neurological disease that causes both physical and mental fatigue. I tire very easily.

We all have sock puppets, remember. Every one of us is technically a 'we'.

DeanElderberry · 14/04/2026 08:29

I am very sorry you are going through that, @ItsNotOrwell, it's tough.

Also sorry that you fell foul of the 'two nations separated by a common language' thing. I'm Irish, like Shaw and Wilde who both made that observation - our usage is nearer the UK, but with enough differences that we know there are pitfall traps waiting for us to fall into them. Some people in both of the larger nations assume their usage is universal, hence occasional brisk MN discussions on 'turnip' or 'gotten'.

and 'quite' really is notorious.

You were unlucky that there were some very confrontational posters last week/weekend and a lot of people were on the defensive.

take care of yourself

I'm not sure why you'd find apologising for something you got wrong exhausting. I find it exhausting when people expect a level of tolerance that they're not prepared to give, but I haven't opened my comment with 'sigh' because I know I can simply walk away.

People with neuro-degenerative conditions can find any communication exhausting, but push on to avoid social isolation.

There are principles I'll stand on, but I will also cut my fellow posters some slack.

How very 'kind' of you.

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 14/04/2026 16:16

It's a shame that the weaponisation of kindness has resulted in genuine kindness being seen as an issue.

DrBlackbird · 14/04/2026 17:31

It is frustrating that over and over someone new to the threads comes on and starts to chastise posters for not being sufficiently kind. Okay, yes some of the comments are blunt and forthright, but this is because of how always the same posters never actually engage with the substantive issues.

I have never seen, not once, one of the bekind posters respond in any meaningful way with key questions about allowing men who say they’re women into all female single sex spaces. Occasionally, a poster will say they don’t agree with trans identifying men into women’s sports but then stop there and never explain how that circle is meant to be squared with also insisting we should use female pronouns ‘just to be nice’.

This board is unique and endlessly targeted by poster to shame women who are discussing the issues that arise from male inclusion in female single sex provisions. Either someone wants to shut down any discussion or they want to shame women for not writing or speaking how that poster thinks that they should be writing or speaking.

I do understand how easy it is to fall into a bekind trap, which is acceptable from a young adult working things out, but I don’t understand why a poster (any poster, not singling out any one in particular) wouldn’t read and reflect on the different arguments as opposed to continued focus on their feelings that everyone is being mean. So IMO, this ^^ sentiment is entirely understandable.

I have 97. I have named them all.

DeanElderberry · 14/04/2026 17:36

That last snipe about kindness was aimed at me @DrBlackbird, because I suggested tolerance of a poster with a very difficult medical condition.

I am not a new poster (my critic had an unfamiliar name and style but for all I know they've been here for ever under other Ids). I have never suggested that there is anything kind about encouraging mentally unwell people to damage themselves further, or that women should be blamed for declining to do so.
