Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The child hasn't been banned for being trans FFS. They've been banned for being male.

RoyalCorgi · 06/04/2026 16:54

Really dismal, particularly "Angela’s youngest daughter will have to leave Girlguiding because she is transgender." No. Angela's son will have to leave because he's a boy.

I've often wondered how long the Guardian will carry on peddling this nonsense when the tide is clearly turning against it. Will they be like the Japanese soldiers fighting the war 30 years after it' s ended?

joyava · 06/04/2026 16:55

Angela has misled her son by letting him believe that he was now her daughter. Plenty of other options for her son such as the scouts which is mixed sex.

Holidaymodeon · 06/04/2026 17:01

Very brave of guides / brownies to take this stance in the current climate, fair play to them

KnottyAuty · 06/04/2026 17:06

I don’t have any sympathy for Angela’s son. My daughter couldn’t access mixed sex groups because she has a difficult brother and had a horrible cohort of boys in her primary class. So she chose brownies over scouts so she could get single sex space and respite from males. Why should she (and all other girls) have to give that up? Im maybe over associating but brownies were a good respite for me too at that age - later guides - because sexual harassment and overbearing boys was just too bloody much. Im no wall flower - i work in a male dominated industry - but it’s just nice not to have ones needs ignored/trampled as they often are in mixed sex spaces. Where’s the poor girls article?

Orangemintcream · 06/04/2026 17:06

“Angela’s youngest child who is male can no longer attend as the origination has finally confirmed it will comply with the law for single sex organisations and only admit female children.”

Now the way that poor child has been mislead into thinking he could be a girl at that age is something else entirely.

The soldiers didn't know or understand that the war had ended. The Graun should know by now that the jig is up, but they just can't accept they are on The Wrong Side of History.

OneTimeThingToday · 06/04/2026 17:12

The child is allowed to go camping with other Guides this sumner. So presumably using facilities aimed at girls such as the showers and toilets.

loislovesstewie · 06/04/2026 17:43

This is one of the reasons I no longer read the Guardian. I just can't stand the way that females aren't allowed anything according to them. For a supposedly left wing paper they are really good at keeping females in their place.
And the parents in the article should have used their brains, pretty soon the boy is going to reach puberty. And then what?

lemonraspberry · 06/04/2026 17:53

How do you tell a child that the place they once belonged, they’re no longer welcome at? I’m unable to give her a reason that makes sense to her,”

Well how about that they are of the male sex and brownies/guides is for the female sex - basic biology which drives behaviour and safeguarding practices. They can be trans but their choice does not override the rights of others.

user2848502016 · 06/04/2026 18:01

These parents never think to reflect whether they need to take any blame in this do they?!
Angela your son is not allowed in guides because he’s a boy not because he’s “trans”, he is upset because you lied to him and pandered to his nonsense.

MoistVonL · 06/04/2026 18:12

Angela, your daughter deserves space away from her little brother. Shunt him on to mixed sex Scouts and leave the girls alone.

Arran2024 · 06/04/2026 18:16

Of course The Guardian will claim that the article is balanced because it gives both sides, but the positioning makes it clear whose side they are on.

This is so manipulative, and such poor parenting. Yes it’s going to be hard for the child, but YOU are an adult and the child’s parent! Take responsibility for heaven’s sake. I feel sorry for ‘trans’ children with parents like this - not because they are excluded from activities for the opposite sex but because they are being seriously let down by their parents and other adults who should be helping them. It’s setting them up to have a really difficult life.

Could do a whole comment is free but facts matter letter to the editor - as @Orangemintcream says, “Angela’s youngest child who is male can no longer attend as the organisation has finally confirmed it will comply with the law for single sex organisations and only admit female children”

gig not jig!

theDudesmummy · 06/04/2026 18:22

Oh ffs. I read this article today. I thought: This again? And this boy is TEN years old and being sold this dangerous lie? This makes me very very angry. Angela, "how do you tell" him he can't attend a girls' only club? That's very easy. "This is a girls' only club". Job done. If it is "deeply distressing" to anyone, that is your doing, Angela. What on earth were you thinking telling a TEN-YEAR-OLD boy that he is a girl and "belongs" in girls' only clubs? And in a couple of years when he is pubertal you intended to push his presence and his penis into private spaces of pubertal girls?

Shame on you, especially as a woman. Do you remember what it was like to be a 13-year-old girl? Obviously not (and that's just thinking about the discomfort and lack of dignity for the girls, never mind the risk aspects).

theDudesmummy · 06/04/2026 18:23

@ThisOneLife it is jig

Lottapianos · 06/04/2026 18:25

@theDudesmummy , couldn't have put it better myself

This 'Angela' needs to give herself a good shake. All the fawning over parents like this honestly makes me sick

Being against women's rights and equality to men is rapidly drifting into being a left wing position, given the Greens and Lib Dem's position, and Labour's unadmitted position but actions. (Or lack of them.) Not to mention standing up for women's rights and equality being frequently framed as 'extreme right wing'.

It's all mad.

WallaceinAnderland · 06/04/2026 18:36

If the parents hadn't lied to their child in the first place, this would not have happened.

The parents need to understand that the world does not revolve around little Jimmy.

Yeah, it's very troubling. I always think of the horseshoe theory, the so called Left veers towards the Right with attitudes to women and girls.

They have failed their child. It's tragic.

Law One: A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted.

How can anyone trust a Guide who lies about something as fundamental as sex?
