National Education Union conference to debate if Supreme Court trans ruling is ‘attempted genocide’

The National Education Union (NEU) is set to discuss whether the 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman constitutes “attempted genocide” against transgender people.

Delegates are expected to debate the issue today (31 March) at the union’s annual conference in Brighton.

According to the Daily Mail, Britain’s largest teaching union may hear arguments that the judgment amounts to an “attempted erasure of a group from public life”, with criticism potentially directed at both the judiciary and the government.
“Attempted erasure of a group from public life” – the National Education Union is set to debate the 2025 Supreme Court ruling

The Supreme Court previously ruled that, under the Equality Act, the definition of a woman is based on biological sex, a decision that has prompted ongoing debate about the operation of single-sex spaces and the inclusion of trans people.

Have people lost all sense of proportion

Well they're reality denying, science rejecting, unhinged loony tunes, so yes.

Those motions are even worse than I imagined. These people should not be allowed anywhere near young and impressionable minds.

And people wonder why no one has any respect for teachers any more. It's because this is how thick they are.

Believe me, all the teachers I know and work with would laugh this motion out of the conference. We know it’s nonsense.

This disconnect is a huge problem though.

Because to those on the outside of all this, the unions are representative of teachers and they'd expect the unions to reflect teachers' views.

Teachers (indeed all workers) need to hold their unions to account. If they're out there, spouting this nonsense, then people will form a view on that and how it reflects on teachers themselves.

Yep.

Bosnia was ethnic cleansing not genocide same with rwanda.
It may seem like semantics but its actually an important difference

The UN disagrees with you.

I agree they can't change the law but I think there's two points to it.

Firstly they can say that they are speaking for almost a half a million teachers when they lobby government even if the vast majority don't agree.

Secondly, I imagine they want to spread the message through schools via the teaching staff. I can imagine that a teacher looking for advice on how to handle a 'trans' situation may well look to their union for guidance and by capturing the teachers the ideology is spread through the school.

Example of current guidance on NEU site

Am trying to catch up on this thread to see what's going on in a big union like this .... and probably missing lots through skim-reading... but this one caught my eye.

I knew things were bad in the unions but the information on that link is mad. It's not even aligned to the current mandatory KCSIE guidance (which recognises that a gender questioning child is at risk from conflation of gender identity with other underlying issues and that this represents a safeguarding risk), let alone the law (under the Equality Act) on who can access which toilets and changing rooms.

It's entirely divorced from both. Instead it's just self-ID writ large. It's really not going to age well, the more exposure the public gets to what's going on in this huge safeguarding and medical scandal. We're edging closer to that all the time, and soon schools will be fully in the spotlight re their contribution to the gender clinic pipeline.

Now that PBs and cross-sex hormones for children have been stopped under the NHS - and the public can see this in the news - it won't take long before journalists are asking what schools were doing to safeguard children from believing that they needed them. Documents like the one on this link will be very telling. The answer is clearly that they were championing these children along, based on the advice of their unions.

This is the link to the NEU Library where supposedly the motions passed etc., will be published.

Suspect that as it is the easter weekend there may be nothing until end of next week?

Yep.

Most people/workers/teachers are too busy and involved with their jobs and with their family lives to be concerned with also fighting invoved and intense battles in the staffroom.

Save few kids from committing suicide, I know, nonsense in your mind as kids just need to get over being trans, it's that easy.

And serve as a reminder of just unclear, and incompatible with human rights FsWS is as a judgment.

Please try not to use the word "committed" when referring to people taking their own lives. It criminalises something which is not a criminal offense. Also I don't agree with a single thing you have posted.

I would have thought that teachers would be sick to the back teeth of keeping track of all the name changes and pronouns in their classes to want to agree with this ridiculous poll?
