National Education Union conference to debate if Supreme Court trans ruling is ‘attempted genocide’

The National Education Union (NEU) is set to discuss whether the 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman constitutes “attempted genocide” against transgender people.

Delegates are expected to debate the issue today (31 March) at the union’s annual conference in Brighton.

According to the Daily Mail, Britain’s largest teaching union may hear arguments that the judgment amounts to an “attempted erasure of a group from public life”, with criticism potentially directed at both the judiciary and the government.
“Attempted erasure of a group from public life” – the National Education Union is set to debate the 2025 Supreme Court ruling

The Supreme Court previously ruled that, under the Equality Act, the definition of a woman is based on biological sex, a decision that has prompted ongoing debate about the operation of single-sex spaces and the inclusion of trans people.

I am appalled, if not suprised, that a group of people from the education sector could describe the FWS judgment as 'attempted genocide'. Complete batshittery. Have any of them even read the judgment, I wonder, or are they just going on what the GLP told them....

FlirtsWithRhinos · 31/03/2026 23:27

Meanwhile in reality, there are around 140 million women missing from the global population due to sex specific violence, marginalisation, neglect and selective abortion.

So if we really must go down the distasteful route of comparing -isms to genocides, I think the female people "win" this most awful of competitions.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 31/03/2026 23:28

I look forward to NEU's robust condemnation of the global treatment of female people.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 31/03/2026 23:37

I read the Yahoo article in the OP and most of it concerns the USA and the Lemkin Institute, which we've discussed several times on here (and not in a good way).

Why is the NEU focusing on this and not the many issues that need addressing in UK schools?

GreyskySexRealistsky · 31/03/2026 23:16

Anyway, to return to the OP...

...no, the SC ruling is not genocide

It is madness that they’re even using that term in relation to the SC ruling. Really really trying to go all out in emotional manipulation to get their way. Like toddlers holding their breath until they turn blue. Because no rational argument holds.

IwantToRetire · 01/04/2026 01:11

After I posted this I thought, this cant be true, when I check in again someone will tell me its an April Fool.

But I see up thread someone has posted that it was passed as a motion.

Its hard to believe that grown adults would collude with this over blown nonsense.

And also an insult to the fact that sadly in more than a few parts of the world genocide is taking place, as is femicide.

IMO any who posts unsubstantiated nonsense about child death's should be ignored.

Or the only response should be provide proof, and not engage in their mind games.

I love my lore around here, I actually made no public stance on this matter but here everyone knows my supposed view on it😂

The woman, the legend.

Edited

You made a typo, lovely. You meant to say 'The man, the legend'. It's blatantly obvious.

Independent Clinical Data (The Appleby Review)

Professor Appleby analysed data from NHS England covering current and former patients of the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) at the Tavistock from 2018 to 2024.

  • Total Figures: The review found a total of 12 suicides over the six-year period.
  • Trend: There were 5 suicides in the three years prior to 2020–21 and 7 in the three years after. Specifically for under-18s, there were 3 suicides before and 3 after the 2020–21 period.
  • Conclusion: The review concluded there was no statistical evidence of a "surge" or "explosion" in suicides following restrictions on puberty blockers.
  • Context: Most patients who died had multiple social and clinical risk factors, including mental illness and family disruption, which Prof. Appleby noted make causal links to any single aspect of care unreliable.

Scientific Consensus (The Cass Review)

The Cass Review, the most comprehensive independent study of gender identity services for children in the UK, also addressed this topic.

  • Findings: It found no evidence that gender-affirming medical treatments (such as hormones or blockers) reduce suicide risk.
  • Recommendations: It stated that suicide risk in this group is typically related to complex "psychosocial factors" and co-existing mental health conditions rather than gender dysphoria alone.

Yes this is AI generated and it did include the made up figures from GLP but pointed out they were a campaign group not a research group.

So just on the grounds of quoting the GLP is enough of a hint to not take any such claim seriously.

I know, I know, the 46 trans kids in last few years were just so thrilled with Catholicism that they wanted to go see god, and not got bullied into killing themselves.

And Brianna Ghey was killed by a facebook post, and not knives.

And other labour posts you wanna parrot?

Absolute bollocks. Proof??

National Education Union conference to debate if Supreme Court trans ruling is ‘attempted genocide’

And these are the adults we entrust with our children’s education.

God help us.

pontefractals · 01/04/2026 04:02

I read upthread that the motion has passed.
I would like to know
a) how many people voted to pass it
b) what proportion of NEU membership that number is
c) how many of those people are actually classroom teachers, not full-time union staff, or student/trainees, etc
I suspect the answers might be interesting.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 01/04/2026 06:32

And these are the people we pay to educate the nations children, maybe we need our heads read too. 🤔

worrisomeasset · 01/04/2026 06:50

Teachers who spend a chunk of their much-needed Easter break attending a union conference instead of flying off to the Canaries or having a relaxing time at home are not at all typical of members of the teaching profession. A conference in the school holidays will inevitably be attended by only the most politically motivated and left wing teachers, boring centre leftish types like myself wouldn’t go anywhere near it.

A lot of us are still working too. We don't break up until tomorrow in my area. I am a member of the NEU and wish there was a suitable alternative, but I haven't found one yet.

LottieMary · 01/04/2026 07:24

the NEU have all sorts of extremist debates imo but sadly not a lot to do with actual helpful policy ideas like say ensuring it’s mandatory for a school
to have a library, librarian and counsellor. All of which would be helpful.

The ability of this ideology to make adult professionals beclown themselves continues to astound.
Yet again it's the kids who are harmed by their posturing.

Rightsraptor · 01/04/2026 07:57

The NEU thing is being called a debate but did anyone speak against the motion? I suspect nobody dared but all kudos to anyone who did.

AnneElliott · 01/04/2026 08:00

Yes prevention of deaths reports are prepared and sent by a coroner - not a pathologist. You need to get your facts right @AidaP

AnneElliott · 01/04/2026 08:04

AidaP · 31/03/2026 23:00

Oh look, another one, specifically all about bullying, took 2 minutes with google: Mia Janin: Prevention of future deaths report - Courts and Tribunals Judiciary

Some people here really are extra reluctant to gather actual information.

Still a coronial report @AidaP - not from a pathologist. Still with this batshit movement I guess words can mean whatever you want them to - so you can never be wrong. As in your own head you’re always right - really strange way to live.

According to Facebook the motion on Trans and Non-Binary Rights was passed at conference today.

And these people are the ones educating our children.

If they are incapable of using evidence and facts to demonstrate logic and reason, what hope of teaching our children to do so? How can we trust them them to teach science and biology? Or history and politics? Or sociology? Or anything. Why would we believe that they have our daughter’s best interests at heart and would try to protect them from sexism or misogyny or even sexual assault. For that matter, why aren’t teachers, who face an avalanche of catastrophic issues in education, pushing back and saying to their union just stop spending time and energy on nonsense ones.

How, just how can they claim a legal judgement set to protect women’s rights is genocide?? As others have said, this is an insult to those who have or are suffering actual genocide. It demeans their experience.

Genderism is truly an example of competitive amensalism. Something akin to that with its successful mix of aggressive narcissistic men and handmaidens.

RareGoalsVerge · 01/04/2026 08:26

You are not being "erased from public life" if you are not allowed ALL the sweeties in the shop.

You are not being told that you are invalid, sub human or unacceptable if there are some places and services and resources and opportunities that are reserved for people of a category that doesn't include you.

Suicide prevention is important but it is achieved by giving people the psychological support to accept the things they cannot change, the strength and power and freedom to change what they can, and the wisdom to kmow the difference. It is not achieved by pretending that the thing they want to be true is true and trying to force everyone else in the world to pretend the same.

Children should be free of all expectations of gender and at liberty to express themseves and partake in activities in a gender free way with no comments or disparagment of the boy who loves ballet and fairy princess dresses or the girl who loves bmx biking and robotics. They should be taught, in different age-appropriate ways that their physical sex is a totally different thing from the extent to which the fit (or don't fit) some old-fashioned stereotypes of gender, and that they have absolute freedom to do what they like with their gender but that their physical sex will never change and that is ok and does not prevent them from being themselves - whether they are trans or gay or anything else, they can be whole and free and valid. Strict enforcement that after age 8 only male children use the male facilities and only female children use the female facilities, and that sports are divided on the basis of sex not gender for rational and valid reasons and that trans people are absolutely at liberty to participate within their correct sex categoty, is part of that, with understanding that both male and female facilities are gender free because there is no expectations for gender in either, and case by case provision of a separate single-user area if any child genuinely can't cope with using the facilities appropriate to their physical sex (though with appropriate support and without the propagana telling them that they are supposed to be unable to cope with sharing facilities with people who have the same body type as them but different ideas about gender, I don't think that would happen very often)

It is stonewall ideology that has taught them that the appropriate reaction to people refusing to share their fantasy world is suicide. One of the first rules of suicide prevention is to never ever make statements that person X committed suicide because of reason Y. It is always more complicated than that with multiple factors and with the right support, someone on the brink of such drastic self harm can be helped to step back and live. The damage done by such simplistic statements is that it makes it more difficult to reach and help the next person to whom reason Y applies because you have basically instructed them that suicide is the appropriate next step.

DrBlackbird · 01/04/2026 08:33

Well I searched but couldn’t find the actual motion. So not sure if motion 14 actually mentions genocide or FWS. The press release dresses motion 14 up as being inclusive in the classroom.
