National Education Union conference to debate if Supreme Court trans ruling is ‘attempted genocide’

The National Education Union (NEU) is set to discuss whether the 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman constitutes “attempted genocide” against transgender people.

Delegates are expected to debate the issue today (31 March) at the union’s annual conference in Brighton.

According to the Daily Mail, Britain’s largest teaching union may hear arguments that the judgment amounts to an “attempted erasure of a group from public life”, with criticism potentially directed at both the judiciary and the government.
“Attempted erasure of a group from public life” – the National Education Union is set to debate the 2025 Supreme Court ruling

The Supreme Court previously ruled that, under the Equality Act, the definition of a woman is based on biological sex, a decision that has prompted ongoing debate about the operation of single-sex spaces and the inclusion of trans people.

A lot of us are still working too. We don't break up until tomorrow in my area. I am a member of the NEU and wish there was a suitable alternative, but I haven't found one yet.

Edapt will provide you with excellent legal services and not get involved with politics.

Edapt: Edu-legal support for teachers and school staff

Edapt provides teachers and school staff with casework services and edu-legal support in individual employment disputes and allegations. We’re apolitical and independent. A bit like a union, but different…

I hear those shouts from 11 yo kiddos who think they are edgy on their shortboards as I zip by them. Bothers me about as much as hearing it then.

The ego is just delicious of how you lot think any trans person needs and pines for your approval, or cares of your transphobic view

Lol. Make your mind up. One minute we're genociding trans people left, right and centre with a click of our single set enjoying finger, and the next we couldn't be less relevant.

Save few kids from committing suicide, I know, nonsense in your mind as kids just need to get over being trans, it's that easy.

And serve as a reminder of just unclear, and incompatible with human rights FsWS is as a judgment.

If you were that bothered you would not use the term committing suicide. This creates stigma and implies criminality. You should say something like die by suicide, took their own life.

Back to the Op what a lot of nonsense. I’m very glad my kids are all done with school. Attempted genocide indeed. The sooner educators get on with the job of teaching instead of pushing ideology and of pandering to one group of kids with luxury beliefs the expense of all the others who genuinely need support the better

Oh look, another one, specifically all about bullying, took 2 minutes with google: Mia Janin: Prevention of future deaths report - Courts and Tribunals Judiciary

Some people here really are extra reluctant to gather actual information.

The reference in this report to "gender-based bullying" is about boys bullying this poor girl at school & nothing to do with your "trans" obsession. It's also not a pathology report but a specific coroner's "Prevention of future deaths report" which is produced for every child suicide.

I can't see what possible point passing this motion even has?

They can't change the law.

The end.

ApplebyArrows · 01/04/2026 09:58

If anything it's trans people and trans supporters who are committing genocide by constantly going on about trans people killing themselves and thereby encouraging vulnerable trans people to do it themselves! The more suicide is framed by the pro-trans community as a normal behaviour amongst trans people, the more trans people will kill themselves. How about encouraging resilience in the face of not getting what you want instead of spending so much effort promoting the idea that suicide is a natural response to perceived oppression?

Id much rather they stopped faffing around with stuff like this and sending a zillion emails a week and instead dealt with educational issues such as lack of funding for schools and especially for the new send reforms.

What will this actually achieve?

What will this achieve?

They will vote yes, thus creating a whole new reason for continued frothing?

the NEU have all sorts of extremist debates imo but sadly not a lot to do with actual helpful policy ideas like say ensuring it’s mandatory for a school
to have a library, librarian and counsellor. All of which would be helpful.

And this is why i left the NEU. I didn't join it in the first place, it engulfed the union i joined wjich had excellent representation for librarians, and instantly dropped all that. Useless.

SockPlant · 01/04/2026 10:32

upon only reading the subject of the thread: I would expect an absolutely rigorous definition of terms

What is the definition of genocide?

nonono you are doing it wrong.

You have to ask how many kids committing (provably because of GI stuff) suicide is too many. And we will answer in the true TRA style: n+1

(except we won't because we are not the bad guys here. Of course children with mental health issues that may lead to them harming themselves or worse should be addressed. Properly by mental health professionals)

I just finished re-reading The Pianist, which details the deliberate, methodical and relentless genocide of Polish Jews in Nazi-occupied Warsaw, once the city with the biggest Jewish population in Europe. Starting with armbands and paperwork, escalating to casual beatings, then random shootings and finally culminating in the liquidation of the ghetto and mechanised murder in the camps. The book names a street on which I used to work.

For teachers, of all people, to use the word "genocide" about FWS is genuinely disturbing and shameful.

Justme56 · 01/04/2026 10:54

I have to say I’m a litttle disappointed with the BBC. All those articles on drag queens and absolutely nothing about the attempted genocide of trans people. Shocking lack of coverage.

I agree.

Because it's not just linguistically all wrong.

Plus, it makes them sound like a bunch of foot stamping children.

It's just bloody embarrassing all round.

And you've got, (presumably grown) men on this thread fondly imagining they're taunting women by a whole raft of 'no you are' level of discourse.

The term be-clowning is so apt. These people make themselves look like utter dunderheads.

What is this union going to do now?? Write to 'someone' to say we think women's toilets are akin to genocide?

I can't believe any of them know how to put one foot in front of the other. Seriously.

I know, I know, the 46 trans kids in last few years were just so thrilled with Catholicism that they wanted to go see god, and not got bullied into killing themselves.

And Brianna Ghey was killed by a facebook post, and not knives.

And other labour posts you wanna parrot?

Brianna Ghey was killed by a girl who was herself questioning her gender identity: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/dec/08/brianna-ghey-trial-accused-denies-anti-transgender-views

RoyalCorgi · 01/04/2026 11:32

Framing a clarification of the law as "genocide" is clearly so stupid - and so alienating to the majority of ordinary people - that you have to wonder why trans activists do it. Best guesses:

  1. It's deliberately inflammatory because it's designed to whip up fear and hostility among vulnerable young people who imagine they are trans
  2. They are attention-seeking, and extremism is a better way of gaining attention than reasonableness
  3. They are, themselves, immensely stupid
  4. A combination of some or all of the above
TheKeatingFive · 01/04/2026 11:43

I work in the private sector, so not relevant to me, but have ALL the unions gone completely batshit?

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · 01/04/2026 11:47

It’s quite horrifying that adults we expect to be sane and educate our children are clearly not.

Hoardasurass · 01/04/2026 12:04

For any Scottish teachers who want some sanity SUE is a good resource and way to speak with like minded teachers and parents

20thCenturyFecks · 01/04/2026 12:09

Oh dear god, what a load of hysterical bollocks just because a very small minority aren't allowed to use women's changing facilities, toilets and other single sex spaces.

I agree they can't change the law but I think there's two points to it.

Firstly they can say that they are speaking for almost a half a million teachers when they lobby government even if the vast majority don't agree.

Secondly, I imagine they want to spread the message through schools via the teaching staff. I can imagine that a teacher looking for advice on how to handle a 'trans' situation may well look to their union for guidance and by capturing the teachers the ideology is spread through the school.

Maybe. . But surely to God saying women's toilets are akin to genocide isn't the way to go about it

Yeah, they never would dive into such a thing, it's just impossible to happen... Oh wait, one of the many doing exactly that: Jason Pulman: Prevention of future deaths report - Courts and Tribunals Judiciary

It's really something you can just google. The lies are just silly.

That’s a coroners report, not a pathology report.

SwirlyGates · 01/04/2026 13:36

OMG the time and resources that are wasted on this crap. I want society to reset back to normality and reality, and then people can do more useful things again.

RedToothBrush · 01/04/2026 13:47

Following the laws on equality and human rights = "genocide".

Do they actually understand just how fucking ignorant of how and why these laws were created they are?! Its offensive!
