Trans-owned bookshop invites customers to vandalise JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels

A trans-owned bookshop has been inviting customers to vandalise JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels for 25p.

The Bookish Type in Leeds is inviting customers to deface the beloved children's book to raise money for transgender healthcare.

Customers can deface 'as many pages' as they want of an edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The independent shop then plan to auction the book off once it's filled up.

Rowling, 60, has become a target after positioning herself as one of the country's most prominent gender-critical voices.

One message, addressing Rowling, says: 'You’ve ruined yourself, ruined the name of feminism and ruined the precious childhood of thousands of women and girls. F* you.'

The Bookish Type told PinkNews: 'We came up with this idea a few weeks ago as a silly and cathartic way to raise money for five local trans people.

'It was originally going to only be on our second hand Sunday event that we run every few months where we sell second hand books and give all the money towards local trans people’s healthcare costs, but we did it a week early and people love it!'

Falls in perfectly with not bothering to advocate for solutions for facilities and instead getting angry when women won't do what they demand.

Also - OMG I thought you guys were joking about them "raising money for five local transpeople".

No, it's in their publicity material!

Crikey!

lcakethereforeIam · 28/03/2026 15:49

If the tp are on benefits receive any amount of money could really screw that up for them.

People are a lot more interested in hating their supposed oppressor than they are in supporting, and spending money on, those they are claiming to support.

It's such a self defeating way of boycotting. Like I'm a big Neil Gaiman hater but you don't see me buying his books to deface for clout. I instead just don't give him money or even indulge in his comics, movies, shows or books. It's not hard but they don't get it.

Note: also not comparing them for more than the Neil is someone I actively am boycotting what he did was actually evil vs having opinions on Twitter/X.

what a waste of good books they could be donated to childrens chairties etc so much for society

Is this not a hate crime

No, don’t be silly, it’s only a hate crime if it’s being done by sex realists. If it’s TRAs doing it it’s stunning and brave.

Ooh aren’t the men in wigs and dresses just so edgy and special. What a stunning and brave thing to do

I’m sure JKR devastated 😂

Especially as the shop must have paid for the books in order to scribble all over them 🤭.

Are they providing those extra chunky Crayola crayons you give to toddlers, I wonder? With a plastic cup of Ribena and a malted milk biscuit before home time?

Wouldn't it make more sense to auction off signed books by transgender authors or something than auction off a book they don't like and also spent money on to do this thing?

Well, yes. But why would they do this when they can do something petty, spiteful and performative instead.

Well, yes. But why would they do this when they can do something petty, spiteful and performative instead.

And let's face it, the sales figures for some very hyped trans authors suggest the demand even in the alphabet community just isn't there. Whereas the appetite for saying self righteously nasty things to mummy JKR seems limitless.

I hear next week you can pop along and glue pasta onto photocopied pics of JK. Bring your own stuffie.

Did you mean bring your own stiffy? 😂.
They are literally very attached to their “girl dicks” and I can see a lot of men getting excited when it comes to spreading unnecessary hate towards JKR.

I wonder who the “five local people” and why they are the chosen beneficiaries? I’m guessing it’s for surgery that will mean they can magically change sex?
I’m not sure 25p a go will raise much money and I wonder if they have considered JKR will also profit from this bizarre publicity stunt for people who claim they just want to “live their lives and be left alone”.

Someone will buy that book at auction and display it with pride.
I’d worry about the mental health of any of my loved ones if they bought a book just filled with mad ramblings from sad bitter men!

I read a post on reddit the other day where a TIM was ranting about how he hated to see “cis” 😡) women just living their lives without knowing how lucky they were not to “be in the wrong body”. He said he felt literally sick from envy when he saw women “swishing their hair and talking in their feminine voices” and how he felt such so much hate at how women take it all for granted.

These are the kind of people this bookshop are encouraging, men who can’t get on with their own lives as they are too obsessed with hating women whilst claiming to be one!

'Love wins' written on the back of a children's book defaced with hatred!

BlueSkiesAndSunshiiine · 28/03/2026 18:03

I think some of the paint would accidentally on purpose go on their trans propaganda books, hee hee.

My first thought was the fox batterer.

Daleksatemyshed · 28/03/2026 18:14

One of the many things that annoys me about people like this is that they try to present it as doing an act of charity. In truth the only people they have any interest in, or willingly give anything to, are other transpeople, they seem quite incapable of seeing beyond their obsession. They're selfish, selfish people, no one elses problems mean anything to them

ObligateAerobe · 28/03/2026 18:19

Bunch of sad fucks

FranticFrankie · 28/03/2026 18:24

It's high the TRAs let this feeble argument go
It's very immature but all TP want to do is live their lives in peace; apparently. Oh after they spit on 'terfs' of course

bringbacktheladiesloos · 28/03/2026 18:27

stupid twats

bringbacktheladiesloos · 28/03/2026 18:28

'wannabe' twats I should have said

SnoopyPajamas · 28/03/2026 19:03

I love stuff like this. It's such an own goal 😂

The sheer patheticness just speaks for itself. They'll raise about £3.50, fill in the rest of the book themselves, and then one of the Pink News brigade will pretend to buy it at auction for a few hundred quid, so as not to let the side down.

CassOle · 28/03/2026 19:09

Calling something a “fascist project” while destroying books they don’t like 🤣
