So sad to hear this. She was a brilliant voice on the radio and was so good at doing challenging but subtle interviews.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 20/03/2026 18:57

I stopped listening too. I mean, I occasionally put it on when I’m in the house, but I never think of it, and the combo of Jenni and Jane was something to look forward to in the morning. I feel like she retired much longer ago, so I was surprised by how young she was. Damn it.

RummidgeGeneral · 20/03/2026 18:59

Really sad to hear that. What a loss.

LewisFerrux · 20/03/2026 19:04

She was brilliant on Women's Hour, I used to listen most days in her era. Such a loss.

JoyousAsOtters · 20/03/2026 19:06

She was a wonderful presenter, she had such warmth and wit, and was very skilled at getting the best out of ordinary people on the radio.

MyThreeWords · 20/03/2026 19:07

O that's very sad. Lovely Jenni. For years and years she was one of those people who almost feel like part of the household as they chat away to you in the kitchen.

I wish she had lived long enough to have been fully uncancelled.

borntobequiet · 20/03/2026 19:09

Very sad. Woman’s Hour really went downhill after she left.

Unnomdeplume · 20/03/2026 19:12

💔

ifIwerenotanandroid · 20/03/2026 19:14

She was fabulous. She WAS Woman's Hour, she made it worth listening to. RIP dear Jennni.

KittyWilkinson · 20/03/2026 19:27

I didn't know until I saw the thread title. What a loss. That is so sad to read. She was an amazing woman who wasn't afraid of speaking up for those who couldn't.

SternJoyousBeev2 · 20/03/2026 19:33

RIP Jenni. A broadcaster with integrity and talent unlike the current cohort on WH.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 20/03/2026 19:36

Well-known people’s deaths rarely bother me, but I am absolutely gutted about this. The world definitely feels like a less sensible place without her. RIP

ExOptimist · 20/03/2026 19:37

She was an excellent broadcaster. I used to listen most days when she was presenting, the programme has never been the same since she left and I can't stand any of the presenters who have been on since, so I've stopped listening. She was a serious, intelligent presenter and unafraid to voice her opinions.

Dollymylove · 20/03/2026 19:37

Ah no way I loved her Daily Mail column
Rest in peace Jenni ❤️

ExitPursuedByABare · 20/03/2026 19:39

Truly shocked and sad when I heard this.

WH never recovered from her ‘leaving’.

RIP Jenni. You will be missed. And thank you for standing up for women. 💐

RaininSummer · 20/03/2026 19:39

RIP Jenni. Woman's hour was never as good once she left.

TeenagersAngst · 20/03/2026 19:41

borntobequiet · 20/03/2026 19:09

Very sad. Woman’s Hour really went downhill after she left.

Emma Barnett was pretty good but it's gone downhill since. Anita is awful, she can barely get her words out most days. No idea why she is a regular.

Nuala is ok, took some getting used to and still ridiculous on trans issues, but I have grown to like her.

TheLadyofMisrule · 20/03/2026 19:42

RIP, Jenni and thank you. I stopped listening to WH after she left.

testmatchspecial · 20/03/2026 19:48

I was really sad to hear this on the news.

DeeplyMovingExperience · 20/03/2026 19:52

Sad news and maddening that the BBC has of course swerved the reason why she left Women's Hour.

I was particularly struck by this gem from the BBC's news item -

"She worked on BBC Two's Newsnight and Radio 4's Today programme before taking over from Sue MacGregor on Woman's Hour, which is dedicated to "women's voices and women's lives".

Although of course nowadays like this week the voice might be that of a larping man.

Shortshriftandlethal · 20/03/2026 19:54

I note the BBC saw fit to mention she was cancelled for " comments she made about transgender people"; whereas no other media source I've seen has thought that a priority to mention.

Since she left Women's Hour it has gone downhill fast...I can hardly bring myself to listen to it now. It is now more about pandering to political correctness than in centring women.

BG2015 · 20/03/2026 19:54

Ahhh that's so sad. I'm currently listening to historical episodes of Woman's Hour when my menopausal brain wakes me up at 3am. She and Jane Garvey are my current night time companions . Such a gentle soul.

Niminy · 20/03/2026 18:16

Former BBC Woman's Hour presenter Dame Jenni Murray dies at 75 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpwj8e25ddgo

Tbh "women's hour" is crap without her, worst move the barmy BBC ever made, just to please the dudes in frocks who infest it. I no longer listen to it.

Mcdhotchoc · 20/03/2026 19:57

I adored her. RIP
