Women’s Hour - Transwoman Talking About Misogyny WTAF?

I’ve just clocked this as R4 on in the background but Nuala (of course) talking to a transwoman about misogyny?! I mean just what… Nuala asked about his experience of misogyny after transitioning. Apparently, nothing, not even misogyny, is allowed to be centred on women.

I know, I heard that too. Transwoman academic from an Australian university who’s studied masculinity for 30 years. You couldn’t make it up. The obvious guest for a piece inspired by the Netflix programme “Inside the Manosphere”. And Nula dedicating a chunk of the time to asking about whether his views on misogyny have changed since transitioning 😡

Sadly, I guess that there was going to be something coming along after allowing some women who didn't agree that male people can be female on the show.

Riapia · 17/03/2026 11:37

No doubt he would be only too pleased to have been asked for his opinion.
However little it may have been worth.

FemaleAndLearning · 17/03/2026 13:24

Did they use the word transmisogyny? It's the full appropriation woman isn't it. But based on fetish.

borntobequiet · 17/03/2026 13:28

Woman’s Hour is always capable of going lower, even when one thinks it’s reached rock bottom.

NebulousSadTimes · 17/03/2026 13:29

For fuck's fucking sake. Pathetic, desperate, pandering, handmaidening arseholes.

What she said ^^

Sounds like expert fluffing going on by NM, I can only imagine the "euphoria" that was experienced by the interviewee...actually I don't want to imagine...

tartyflette · 17/03/2026 13:43

I wonder exactly how this person’s experience of misogyny differs from mine (and other natal females.)
Was he overruled, talked down to, dismissed, when a young child or adolescent purely because of his sex? Was he steered away from masculine pursuits or careers?
Did he suffer inappropriate male attention as a 12 or 13 year old because he started developing breasts? Did he take action to avoid dangerous situations that might lead to a sexual assault?
I think not. And as adults, there is some evidence (in the form of remarks, statements from various transwomen) that they feel only validation at such attention and may actually seek it. )

MimiGC · 17/03/2026 14:28

Interesting choice of guest. Woman’s Hour has looked to the other side of the world, found an 82 year old, long retired academic whose only personal example of misogynistic behaviour was harassment on the street (which is more likely to have transphobic harassment).

MassiveWordSalad · 17/03/2026 14:37

The BBC, engaging in misogyny while discussing how bad misogyny is. The irony would never even occur to them. Another irony is that the TRAs of the UK believe the BBC to be an awful transphobic institution.

he probably loves any male attention he's getting, thinks this is a woman's correct reaaction.

Oh, and anything he's denied/steered away from now he's a "woman" won't be seen as misogyny - but transphobia.

Thesnailonthewhale · 17/03/2026 14:41

men telling women how they should feel about the way they are treated by men.. .LOL

I think I’ve finally (took me a while) reached the conclusion that I am not its target audience. But this really felt like the lowest blow.

I still remember my DD, then aged 4, being told by a 4 yr old boy that she could not play with him because he was playing astronauts and only boys were astronauts. Age 4 and she was being told what careers were not for her based on her sex.

I think it's good that men are talking about misogamy...

SinnerBoy · 17/03/2026 15:25

I didn't hear it, but from your reports, he was wanging on about misogyny in an entirely misogynistic fashion. What on Earth are they thinking? Why do they haul transw and drag queens out to talk about women's issues like this? Do they want to be defunded, if Reform get in?

Igmum · 17/03/2026 15:29

FFS 🤦‍♀️. Is there an option to specifically defund Woman’s Hour?

SmudgeBrown · 17/03/2026 16:31

It’s just gaslighting now.

Not when they're telling us that misogyny doesn't exist really and this man's never experienced it as a woman. Of course he hasn't experienced it. He's not a woman so he doesn't know what he's talking about.

FFS
That's it

PersonIrresponsible · 17/03/2026 17:22

It's the BBC. The pervert-harbouring, gender-adoring, audience-declining relic of yesteryear. They are so tone-deaf that it takes whistleblowing for anyone to momentarily take notice only to then decide the majority of people are wrong.

You're more likely to see trans-related content than "women of a certain age" was headline news last month.

Besides, I have a personal grudge:

I, along with ithe people, was trying to get me publicity for walking solo across America during a pandemic.

Not a single response from the BBC or WH. We wrote, rang, emailed many times = Tumbleweed.

Woke up to a BBC headline "Man makes second attempt to walk across America". Livid I was. Proper livid.

A man, in his 20s, FFS.

Fewer than 100 hundred people succeeded that year, and fat middle-aged me managed it during at my first attempt.

Never forgiven them.

nicepotoftea · 17/03/2026 17:22

You can't be a victim of misogyny if you are a man and everybody thinks you are a man.

CousinBette · 17/03/2026 17:26

Who the hell is the producer at WH these days? Nuala did her usual fawning and sycophantic interviewing but WHO chose this old man to larp live on air?
