“Heated Rivalry” author Rachel Reid on J. K. Rowling - “the bar is pretty high in how evil you have to be,” “ I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes”

Well, this is disappointing.

”[Reid] has a keen desire not to disappoint her fans, especially when they’re sending her photos of freshly inked tattoos of her words on their skin. ‘I know of another author that a lot of people got tattoos of but then wanted them gone. Like, J. K. Rowling,’ she says. ‘The bar is pretty high for how evil you have to be, but I don’t want to let a single person down.’ I ask if she’s a TERF. ‘No, I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes,’ she replies.”

Well, too late, she let me down. “Extremely the opposite of everything she believes,” huh? I guess Rachel Reid thinks teenage girls should be forced to undress after PE in front of naked male classmates who gawp as their dicks get hard. Or that female inmates should be locked in cells with male inmates serving time for serial rape.

I don’t expect Reid to agree with Rowling on trans issues. It’s the monstering of Rowling that I take issue with - the “evil,” and the framing of Rowling as so extreme that Reid feels the need to be extremely the opposite of everything she believes.

Edit: title should read “on how evil you have to be”

It is 'irrelevant' if someone is trans. If someone is male they need to be kept out of female spaces. There is no such thing as 'non-binary'.

Agreed. Trans people can be men or women. Men need to stay out of women's spaces. Non-binary people statistically outnumber binary trans people.

Exactly because 'social constructs' are fake, harmful and misogynistic.

Social constructs are real and have affected and continue to affect my entire life and those around me. Perhaps sex realists should share how you have managed to extricate yourself.

The FACT that biology is destiny means that as a male, you've never had to consider pregnancy. You are not and never have been a female, so that part is irrelevant.

This reminds me of the American Congressman Todd Akin who argued that "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Very similar attempt to deny the material consequences of biology when they lead to women needing sex specific rights.

There really is no difference between MRA and TRA arguments.

Nobody is responsible for the behaviour of any other individual unless you're their parent or carer or something.

Nonetheless safeguarding rules reduce harm by applying rules to whole groups of people to prevent misbehaviour by a small minority of that group. Transwomen belong to the group "males", and safeguarding rules applied to the group males therefore also apply to transwomen.

This is a culture war argument rather than a biological or social fact.

Is this the sex realist version of 'no debate?'

If you mean the constricts of gender, legislation that prevents sex discrimination, thus making gendered assumptions unlawful.

Prison data over four (4) countries proves this. Sadly for you, the departments and government entities do prove this. And there is nothing you can do or say that proves otherwise.

Has any one of the 4 countries' prison departments publicly presented the sex critical argument? Any of the countries adjusting their justice systems to accommodate such a dangerous cohort? Or is this information solely assembled, manipulated and spread by sex critical people?

onepostwonder · 27/02/2026 19:25

Agreed. Trans people can be men or women. Men need to stay out of women's spaces. Non-binary people statistically outnumber binary trans people.

So you agree as a man you need to stay out of female only spaces. Again, there is no such thing as 'non-binary'. It does not exist.

You're being obtuse. Not all gendered assumptions are unlawful.

By sticking to the realities of sex, but sex denialists refuse to do that, they run their lives around a fake social construct of 'gender'.

I agree that men should stay out of women's spaces. Non-binary people don't need your permission to exist.

I'm not sure what a social fact is, but its certainly a biological and legal fact.

These departments go by data. Not 'sex critical' 'arguments'. But actual numbers.

Difficult to get rid of all sexism, but I think the legislation is pretty good.

Which gendered assumptions do you think are lawful?

The numbers, as calculated inside the institutions, have no sex realist significance. The numbers are manipulated by sex realists to manufacture significance.

The manifestations of assumptions that aren't illegal? I'm not going to teach you anything about how you live your life or have been encultured.

MyFootHasGoneToSleep · 27/02/2026 20:04

God, you're obsessed with getting the words "sex realism" into every post. What's wrong with acknowledging the reality of the sexes?

If you think of yourself as a woman but don't acknowledge the very real effects that their sex has on women, you need to listen harder. The output-only mode is tiresome.

I'm asking your opinion. When do you think sexism is lawful? I would agree that nobody is going around policing people's private lives, but the framework of legislation that protects women's rights - sex based rights - gives women independence that they did not have 50 years ago.

HousePlantEmergency · 27/02/2026 20:09

Yay!!

We got to "Trans people exist"

That's the bonus level! 🙌🏻

For what seems like the eleventybillionth time:

We know you exist. Don't worry. You're loud enough.

I couldn't give a monkeys what you believe about gender or sex or fucking destiny or whatever fuckery.

When you look at how your sex can literally determine if you live or die, thrive or just survive, are tortured/trafficked or left alone, around the world - to think you can just hop into another sex is beyond insulting, and it really does have to be the epitome of luxury belief.

My use is weighed against the amount of energy spent to ignore gender's influence upon social interaction and culture.
