“Heated Rivalry” author Rachel Reid on J. K. Rowling - “the bar is pretty high in how evil you have to be,” “ I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes”

Well, this is disappointing.

”[Reid] has a keen desire not to disappoint her fans, especially when they’re sending her photos of freshly inked tattoos of her words on their skin. ‘I know of another author that a lot of people got tattoos of but then wanted them gone. Like, J. K. Rowling,’ she says. ‘The bar is pretty high for how evil you have to be, but I don’t want to let a single person down.’ I ask if she’s a TERF. ‘No, I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes,’ she replies.”

Well, too late, she let me down. “Extremely the opposite of everything she believes,” huh? I guess Rachel Reid thinks teenage girls should be forced to undress after PE in front of naked male classmates who gawp as their dicks get hard. Or that female inmates should be locked in cells with male inmates serving time for serial rape.

I don’t expect Reid to agree with Rowling on trans issues. It’s the monstering of Rowling that I take issue with - the “evil,” and the framing of Rowling as so extreme that Reid feels the need to be extremely the opposite of everything she believes.

Edit: title should read “on how evil you have to be”

Bit creepy...

Datun · 24/02/2026 23:14

Girls were so frightened or socialised of me they grabbed me by the arms and dragged me in before I even started treatment.

Your mum doesn't count.

But even so, you can share the mixed sex toilets with all those 'girls' then, can't you.

You get to be in their toilets, they get to, er, grab you by the arms, we keep you out of ours.

Win/win/win.

Are you saying it's entirely coincidental?

No. Not everything requires a 1:1 relationship.

MN have said that bullying via reaction emojis will be something that they will put a stop to, you just have to report the posts where someone is using emoji reactions to bully you.

No, but male people who demand that they are women do need to find alternative provisions.

Remarkably male people’s behaviour where they demand that their identity be treated as if it was material reality is what really negatively impacts support for those male people. So, by all means continue to show female people who might have supported you exactly how little you respect any female people who disagree with you. It is very enlightening.

That you reduce my existence to an identity is offensive. I do not identify. I have lived more than 50 years as me. It is the only experience I have; it's the only experience shared by people I know. It's silly to tell me that I require anyone to act in any way around me, or anyone else.

You can believe anything you wish that seems enlightening. Sex realists don't require trans people in the room to do that, they accomplish quite a lot amongst themselves.

There was no such thing as mixed sex or single sex provisions back then. Life was very binary. There was no such thing as "trans inclusion" or Pride. Disability was referred to as a slur by most able bodied people.

I just wanted to draw attention to the passive agressive behind the scenes oddness 😬

I was merely appreciative for agreeing that men do not belong in women's spaces and that men are not women.

and then apparently a 'thank you' war progressed.

Of course there was single sex provision. Women bloody fought for it in so many areas of life!
Unsurprisingly you know nothing about women's history and struggle. Why would you.

Girls were so frightened or socialised of me they grabbed me by the arms and dragged me in before I even started treatment. Boys were so welcoming and inclusive they waited by the nurse's toilet for me to arrive so they could share their inclusivity. There are 1000s of additional experiences that would align on one side of the gender division.

In your dreams.

Until sex realism, I'd never envisioned a public toilet to be a private exclusive environment.

No, no war. Just a male person imposing himself where he's not wanted and failing to recognise boundaries

this is your belief. ETA: Also, I apologise for forcing my 'thank you' emoji messages into your notifications.

Reid is yet another heterosexual ‘queer’ woman pandering to other heterosexual ‘queer’ people and their ideologically-driven sensibilities. Her attacking JKR is par for the course and should in no way come as a surprise to anyone.

And yet, it is an identity based on philosophical belief about yourself that doesn’t reflect the material reality of your sex category.

You can call it what you want to, it doesn’t change what it is. Just like describing yourself as female when you are male doesn’t change your sex category.

Your continued attempts at derogation using the term ‘sex realist’ is also enlightening. I imagine it feels good to you to do it.

My lived life isn't a philosophy. It is life experienced and shared with my friends, family, colleagues and the world around me. My sex category has been enforced for almost as long as I can remember. There's very little say I have.

If it was more than once, it is deliberate. Repeated use in that way is abusive behaviour in part because it can only be seen by the two posters involved.

'Until sex realism'?

If nothing else, centuries of farming suggest people have known about sex for quite a long time.

No need to make a quick edit out of fear I might report you.

I rarely report anyone. I prefer to let comments stand so that others can draw their own conclusions.

Personally, I never gave change rooms or toilets any thought. It seems bizarre that they are so suddenly political.

I have been treated by medical professionals my entire life. Some knew of my transition, others did not. I am quite alive and healthy.

I suspect more accurately, some doctors politely didn't discuss your sex because they thought you might be offended.

You could see that you reacted to the posts. The only other person to see that reaction was GreySky.

If you don’t understand appropriate behaviour, that is not something that GreySky should have had to deal with.

That's your belief. Though, I don't know how to feel, knowing that you have spent some time creating a belief system about my personal medical treatment.
