“Heated Rivalry” author Rachel Reid on J. K. Rowling - “the bar is pretty high in how evil you have to be,” “ I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes”

Well, this is disappointing.

”[Reid] has a keen desire not to disappoint her fans, especially when they’re sending her photos of freshly inked tattoos of her words on their skin. ‘I know of another author that a lot of people got tattoos of but then wanted them gone. Like, J. K. Rowling,’ she says. ‘The bar is pretty high for how evil you have to be, but I don’t want to let a single person down.’ I ask if she’s a TERF. ‘No, I’m extremely the opposite of everything she believes,’ she replies.”

Well, too late, she let me down. “Extremely the opposite of everything she believes,” huh? I guess Rachel Reid thinks teenage girls should be forced to undress after PE in front of naked male classmates who gawp as their dicks get hard. Or that female inmates should be locked in cells with male inmates serving time for serial rape.

I don’t expect Reid to agree with Rowling on trans issues. It’s the monstering of Rowling that I take issue with - the “evil,” and the framing of Rowling as so extreme that Reid feels the need to be extremely the opposite of everything she believes.

Edit: title should read “on how evil you have to be”

I don't believe I've ever met a trans woman who demanded to be granted access to anywhere. We were excluded and took the path of least resistance. We were excluded from manhood by men and included in womanhood by women.

Which women? When? Those women will be fine in mixed sex provisions, they're not entitled to speak for all women particularly those who need single sex spaces.

And what you're saying here in essence is that the men were mean, so you commandeered/mugged women for what they had because you felt entitled. And some woman at some point said you could.

Single sex spaces are needed by women. Your needs are separate and you'll need separate solutions. Your belief that you're entitled to just take from them and redefine them and you have no problem with the ethics of this just proves exactly why women's single sex spaces need protection from men in law.

Trans women don't feel entitled, we are women.

No, you are men, and if a doctor truly treated you as a woman it would be life threatening.

I think by virtue of not having the foggiest idea what a woman is.

I have been treated by medical professionals my entire life. Some knew of my transition, others did not. I am quite alive and healthy.

The 'woman' I understand seems more popular than the narrow reproductive-focused version sex realists understand.

Greyskybluesky · 24/02/2026 22:23

No one who was born male is a woman.

It's not a popularity contest. It's just fact.

Helleofabore · 24/02/2026 22:24

And again, that some female people consented to a male person accessing female single sex provisions is irrelevant. Consent isn’t transferable so any female person consenting should not have done so.

Oh boy. By virtue of...?

Slave trade was legal in the UK until it wasn’t. Section 28 was law.

Women know who are women.

Sex realists are in the middle of a transient project to remove trans people from culture. They experienced some luck in being able to insert leadership in critical departments. With the support of religious conservatives, changes in law were won. However, the status of trans people has not changed. The status quo shall prevail eventually.

Girls were so frightened or socialised of me they grabbed me by the arms and dragged me in before I even started treatment. Boys were so welcoming and inclusive they waited by the nurse's toilet for me to arrive so they could share their inclusivity. There are 1000s of additional experiences that would align on one side of the gender division.

So, wait, you identify as being female because you were bullied by a bunch of mean boys?

Isn't that something to unpack in therapy rather than in surgery?

No. Does everything sex realists understand have to have a 1:1 correlation?

CassOle · 24/02/2026 22:43

I don't want to 'remove you from culture' 🙄 I just know that you haven't changed sex. It's not hard, just use unisex bogs if the mens bogs don't appeal to you. Be a decent human being and obey the law regarding single sex spaces.

We've belonged in single sexed spaces. We continue to belong in single sexed spaces.

CassOle · 24/02/2026 22:44

Liar.

ETA - of course males belong in single-sex spaces for males. They do not belong in single sex spaces for females.

Still trying to use 'realist' as a slur, I see, AKA: Trying to make fetch happen.

Yes. Male people belong in male single sex provisions. If you reject those male single sex provisions you need to find an alternative solution that is not female single sex.

women don't require an alternate solution to womens single sex provisions.

onepostwonder · 24/02/2026 22:52

No, but male people who demand that they are women do need to find alternative provisions.

Remarkably male people’s behaviour where they demand that their identity be treated as if it was material reality is what really negatively impacts support for those male people. So, by all means continue to show female people who might have supported you exactly how little you respect any female people who disagree with you. It is very enlightening.
