Fuck it. Who wants to recreate the Isle of the Amazons with me?

Alternately, I'm open to taking over a castle community. The French have a tradition know as Beguine Communities, where women could retreat into female only spaces without taking vows. After everything I've learned about the rape gangs, Epstein and the problems face Refuge for funding, I think we need something like that here. The Government at every layer has shown it does not care about women. We should stop demanding equality - they don't think us worthy of it. We need a matriachy example. Run by women, for women. Stop asking for scraps.

Yes to dogs, if we're having cats it would be unfair to canines to be 'excluded', they're great for taking on walks. I'm bring my stuffed Dino's, books (on Dino's) and I'll need Wifi for the podcasts I listen to on Dino's. 🦕🦖😁

I'll do your gardening if you do my cooking, 'cos we wouldn't want everyone to come down with food poisoning because of me.

Food poisoning is character building.

I'd prefer something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/After-Dark-Jayne-Cowie/dp/1529156769

A 'dystopia' where the men get ankle tags and a curfew, and the women get tasers, partner vetting, and a guaranteed escape fund.

Amazon

You know all those butch lesbians who are being run out of women's toilets by pitchfork-wielding terfs?

We like lifting heavy things and reaching things up highGrin

I'm not a butch lesbian; I am a very tall woman who can lift heavy things though! (Also with short hair, and sadly lacking tales in having been thrown out of ladies' loos. Can't think why! 🤔)

Brefugee · 08/02/2026 12:45

Is there going to be a creative space too? sewing corners for everyone?

I think the answer to all the 'is there going to be?' questions is: yes.
It's best to leave it at that, and not interrogate things too closely, somebody is bound to be allergic to cats/dogs in real life.

I expect our Amazonia is going to be like the Bluestocking, where all the food and drink, while absolutely delicious, is magically free from calories, gluten, sugar, fats, and the kind of alcohol that gets you in trouble.

Cats and dogs will only be perceptible, either visually or by the immune system, to Amazons who love cats and dogsSmile

edited to add: also- magically expanding bookshelves with infinite capacity.

Hello no. Unless you actually meant enough sewing corners for those who want one. Words matter 😉

I think dogs on one side and cats on another should be okay with a third space for allergic/haters as I suspect this place is going to end up massive. We might need a whole country, preferably surrounded by shark infested waters, and protected by cannons. I've always wanted to fire one for some strange reason. That or a trebuchet.

Yes. I started by thinking about a castle, then realised it was not ambitious enough. Hence a large island. Or possibly one of those massive estates with a village on the side and bonus church. Ladies-only on the estate and female-headed homes rented in the village.

I'm now looking at Crown estates as I reckon we could get Queen Camilla on side.

I think the Bluestocking may be a bit of a blueprint <see what I did there?> for this island because it has a Pedantry Corner, and I get the impression that you'd feel right at home in a larger-scale one, BiologicalRobot😄

Spoken with admiration by a fellow-pedant ['trebuchet'😍]

I want a moat.

MarieDeGournay · 08/02/2026 14:28

Speaking of canons - OK so it was cannons - I think monasteries and abbeys have shown that men can cope perfectly well on their own without women.
Cooking, washing, tidying, sweeping, caring for each other when sick, etc etc .

They just need us to give them the freedom to do all those things again....😄

You're not thinking big enough, Arabella - BiologicalRobot has suggested shark-infested seas!

Sausagenbacon · 08/02/2026 14:31

To be horribly pedantic, Beguinages are related more to Holland and Belgium. There was even one in Norwich, because of its links with those countries.
They are different from convents, for several reasons which i won't bore you with.
Boys could live their mothers in a beguinage until puberty.
The internal workings were governed by Grand Mistresses, who were elected.
But they had to have a male priest - part of the arrangement that prevented them from being classed as heretics.

I love Beguinages, and have visited as many as i can. But live in one? No chance, some women can be just as annoying as men.

RavelsDancer · 08/02/2026 14:31

No need to. So, so many young women (those without the asterisk) are going 4B these days, world-wide, therefore it is going to sort itself out. Nature appears to be coming to her senses, finally, after millennia. If I were not agnostic, I would venture that God has begun to listen.

Males and their handmaidens sense it too, make no mistake. Hence all the desperate videos and aggressive ads promoting motherhood in a creepy way.

Let Elon mass-produce some affordable, barely legal-looking, never aging sexbots for the male herd, so women can exist in peace elsewhere.

And most importantly: Please let scientists take up the ovum-to-ovum fertilisation research again, which they worked on decades ago. 🙏

<Adds moat to the shopping list.>
Presumbly well stocked with fish? I reserve the right to paddleboard on it.

If its an island a moat would be strictly speaking redundant, but I still want one. With swans in it.

ArabellaScott · 08/02/2026 14:34

It can have fish in it. Paddleboarding is allowed. Also a floaty lilo with a drinksholder

ArabellaScott · 08/02/2026 14:35

Swan paddleboats, actually. With drinksholders.

if i'm honest, i love the idea of the Bluestocking threads, but they move so fast and seem to have a core component, i feel like an intruder if i would post there.

I'm ok as long as i have my own living space to retreat to when i want, but loads of public spaces of varying size to socialise in. But then, i am a boarding school kid who was in the army, i'm fairly good at communal living.

I'm in. I'm also tall so can reach things up high. Maybe not so good on the heavy lifting by myself but have managed okay for 50+ years. Not sure what needs lifting that only a man can do that two women together can't Hmm Actually "my man" couldn't even lift a toddler, shopping bag or a laundry basket so now I'm wondering where Sugar gets his/her info from that men are indispensable in that department.

I get it from my life experience. I’m the size of a 10yr old boy and nothing is going to change that.

Oh good grief no. Despite getting a B in English my brain fog reduces me to the level of an imbecile most days. Then autocorrect messes with the rest. Hello no should have been Hell no 🙄 That's why I don't visit the Bluestocking as I would be rocking in the corner surrounded by smart and funny women.

As a historical point, monasteries had female servants to do their laundry 🧺 and scrub the floors.
They just weren’t allowed to stay overnight.
Cooking was a man’s job back then because too many women were tempted to poison the pease pudding.
