Fuck it. Who wants to recreate the Isle of the Amazons with me?

Alternately, I'm open to taking over a castle community. The French have a tradition know as Beguine Communities, where women could retreat into female only spaces without taking vows. After everything I've learned about the rape gangs, Epstein and the problems face Refuge for funding, I think we need something like that here. The Government at every layer has shown it does not care about women. We should stop demanding equality - they don't think us worthy of it. We need a matriachy example. Run by women, for women. Stop asking for scraps.

It is odd, isn't it? In every way, they need and want us more than we need or want them. And yet they still get away with treating us like shit. How does that work? I suppose historically we would have needed them more.

But that's the patriarchy. They need/want us, they always knew we were pretty well fine without them, so they must oppress us en masse to maintain their supply of free labour, et voilà, they get a housekeeper, sex, stature, kids with free childcare included, better finances, careers and health than their single peers.

Brefugee · 07/02/2026 22:29

I'm in.

What are the rules on children? Since i assume some people may want to bring theirs, i'm keen to know if there will be child free spaces?

Do I have to lop a boob off?

I've already had a boob lopped off, so I'm in

I wouldn’t want a man free place anyway, they’re also great at child rearing. Just give me equal time to be me. I’m not just a mother, I am woman!

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 07/02/2026 22:27

What kids? And you can pick your faith.

I have no religion and won't be picking one.

And nunneries are ultimately still run by men, because religions are run by men.

Hedgehogforshort · 07/02/2026 23:27

I like the idea of a retreat but we would all be falling out with each other eventually

CactusSwoonedEnding · 07/02/2026 23:37

I'm in.

But there needs to be a method for dealing with whatever Queen Bee decides she is In Charge so I will be checking the rule books before I confirm commitment.

Happy to cook regular communal meals and provide various IT related services to the community as well as coordinating a crafts programme and regular board games evenings/full days according to demand. Would prefer to be allowed to opt out of any Gardening duties.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 08/02/2026 00:22

I'll do your gardening if you do my cooking, 'cos we wouldn't want everyone to come down with food poisoning because of me.

IwantToRetire · 08/02/2026 01:41

This thread reminded me of this recent article about how one woman set up a women only space, in a sort of US free market economy way.

Sounded nice to me. No communal living but women as neighbours close by.

And NO men.

I have no doubt cats would be there whether invited or invading.

I founded a women-only commune — there’s no men and no drama

'This is all about empowering women.'

A bit off topic but related, if you have the money and free time in June and feel confident Trump's visa restrictions wont stop you are passport control you could attend WOLF's RadFem Summer Camp.

That looks brilliant @IwantToRetire - I can't get to Oregon but I'm sure there's enough interested women in the UK to bring together something similar this side of the pond.

SecretSquirrelLoo · 08/02/2026 08:30

I’m packing

Igmum · 08/02/2026 09:55

I’m in. Will bring books, red wine and plenty of nice decaf coffee. I know DGirlCat is welcome, is it ok to bring DBoyCat?

Happy to join Cactus in the kitchen as long as I too can have a no-gardening pass before I accidentally uproot all of the first year’s crops.

Just asked DH what a fun, men-only village would be like and he looked horrified. "What? For more than a weekend? You'd need some way of working off the aggression because no one would be getting laid."

From what I understand, women's idea of heaven is a man-free space, whilst men's idea of hell is a women-free space.

It keeps coming back to sex.

There is an excellent reel going around tiktok at the moment of an incel line 'women are going to have to accept that if they don't lower their standards they will die alone' - with videos of women having a wonderful time dying alone in their clean bathrooms, with their pets, reading good books, taking good holidays, relaxing on their days off from their career, going out with their friends..... It's remarkable how many of the women I left school with have chosen to stay single for exactly this kind of life.

Yes please to the Isle, sign me up. I've often thought in a vaguely longing way of the medieval escape route to an abbey community. The modern one obvs would involve a lot less religion but I am up for the excellent library, the gardens, the very very high walls and locked gates. Good wifi signal will obvs be a must.

I think neutered male cats are acceptable if well behaved. Even Mount Athos which bans women allows female cats.

Very happy to take my turn in the garden.

ProfessorBinturong · 08/02/2026 10:21

I'm reasonably competent at both growing and preserving fruit and vegetables.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 07/02/2026 22:15

That’s not my idea of heaven, men are good for lifting heavy things and reaching things up high.

You know all those butch lesbians who are being run out of women's toilets by pitchfork-wielding terfs?

We like lifting heavy things and reaching things up highGrin

Brefugee · 08/02/2026 10:57

I'll bring my power tools. And all my Lego.

BiologicalRobot · 08/02/2026 11:13

I'm in. I'm also tall so can reach things up high. Maybe not so good on the heavy lifting by myself but have managed okay for 50+ years. Not sure what needs lifting that only a man can do that two women together can't Hmm Actually "my man" couldn't even lift a toddler, shopping bag or a laundry basket so now I'm wondering where Sugar gets his/her info from that men are indispensable in that department.

TheABC · 08/02/2026 11:27

Loving all these messages. And the agreement on cats. Right! We need a place with:
-wifi

  • swimming pool
-sauna
  • library (or proto library since the shelves will be filled up)
  • specific child free and adult free areas. The kids area will have a tipi, hangout, climbing frames and a ball games area.
The adult area gets the Mediterranean garden, covered seating and firepit. And hammocks
  • shed for tools.
  • Dedicated lego space
  • Dedicated coworking space

I think it works with caregul vetting and rules to stop fights and queen bees. I will say, the butch ledbuans I have met were excellent at shutting down this behaviour. They could run workshops on the topic.

I'm in. I will bring my step stool.

It's great at reaching high places and has zero expectations.

EdithStourton · 08/02/2026 11:43

Can I bring my dogs?
One is very clever and bent on world domination, but forever thwarted as she can't read or write, and lacks opposable thumbs.
The other is just an idiot.

I quite like painting and decorating, so long as someone else does the ceilings.
