Posting here as it’s yet another example of how causes are inversed and rebranded as authoritarian right think

A reminder that Orwell himself despised ideologies

“smelly little orthodoxies”

anyway, I look forward to reading many excellent critiques of this, thus bringing his points to the fore 😁

Not thay Orwell would have supported neo-liberal capitalism either, but his point is that socialism can be easily exploited by authoritarians.

Parents are going to get a shock when they buy the book for their kids! Worse than Bambi.

ExitPursuedByABare · 14/12/2025 19:27

I’m sure I read that it’s taken 15 years to get it to launch.

Next up Lord of the Flies

A bunch of cute kids go to summer camp and learn to be friends and help each other.

MyThreeWords · 16/12/2025 06:49

Oh my christ. Next up, 1984 as a rom com.

roseyposey · 16/12/2025 06:53

Oh words fail me.

Next up: the Handmaid’s Tale as comedy with a dash of “cosy murder”

MyThreeWords · 16/12/2025 06:53

As the great Karl Marx says: History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce, third as cutesy CGI sentimentalism.

Mochudubh · 16/12/2025 08:18

It's all a bit Springtime for Hitler, but without the irony.

I'm sure they've missed out on something by not making it a musical. Maybe that will follow for the stage show.

Mochudubh · 16/12/2025 08:41

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised.

Igneococcus · 16/12/2025 08:45

ds (who wrote his Advanced Higher English dissertation about Burmese Days) had the biggest rant of his almost 18 years about this already. Never seen him this outraged before.

Sausagenbacon · 16/12/2025 09:34

Surely Orwell's estate have control of his material? Perhaps not, as surely they wouldn't allow this travesty.

Reminds me of the time I thought Watership Down was going to be a cute story about rabbits

Erin1975 · 16/12/2025 10:24

Animal farm is one of my favourtite books but I am prepared to give Andy Serkis some leeway. I'll wait to see the film before getting angry.

A lot will depend on the ending. If they have changed the end it would destroy the whole point of the story.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/12/2025 10:58

If I remember correctly the animated film of Animal Farm that was done years ago (partly financed by the FBI?) did have a happy ending, so i fear the worse.

If you do watch it please report back. I read the book and the fate of Boxer still breaks my heart.

oh that’s interesting! I had begun to think I should watch it first but the trailer has clearly demonstrated the based on element already …
