Surely Orwell's estate have control of his material? Perhaps not, as surely they wouldn't allow this travesty.

Copyright runs out seventy years after the authors death, in this case 21 January 2020.

The biggest aspidistra in the world.

NotBadConsidering · 17/12/2025 00:06

One can only hope it’s one of those trailers that is deliberately misleading for reasons only known to marketing people. Otherwise it looks horrific.

Thanks for the link. The trailer produced a visceral reaction in me when I watched it but I couldn't articulate why. This really nails it.

PinkHairbrushClub · 17/12/2025 06:55

1984 is my favourite book. For me it perfectly captures the truth about what humanity is capable of.

Animal Farm I read sparingly as it’s just so so bleak. I cannot reconcile whatever that shit is that I’ve just watched with a book that hit me so hard.

NotBadConsidering · 17/12/2025 09:20

Just seen that Laverne Cox has been cast as a sow, not a boar. Even pigs can change sex now, it seems. Farmers everywhere will be surprised.

Schindler's Lift

Ha, ha. I think that every time I get into a Schindler Lift. The original book was Schindler's Ark, not sure why they changed it for the film, obviously the lift company wasn't on their radar.

lcakethereforeIam · 17/12/2025 10:28

It was the make at the cinema where I went to see it, I think the escalators too. I think the book I bought had 'formerly know as', like Prince, below the new title.

And to add greedy insult to meretricious injury, they're releasing it on May Day...!

Nooooooo

This is unbelievable. I love Animal Farm and absolutely love G Orwell's writing and thinking overall.

And yet...... I think i'l enjoy watching this for what it is😃I look forward to seeing it with dd who recently read AF in school and have an interesting discussion after

That's either supreme satire by some pissed off bod in the marketing department, or a deliberate choice to ram home the 'capitalism bad' message.

Everyone who works in Hollywood should be forced to read either Anne Appelbaum's 'Gulag' or Timothy Snyder's 'Bloodlands'.

You can't emerge from either of those thinking that authoritarianism is a good idea, or capable of missing the point of Animal Farm.
