Ha, ha. I think that every time I get into a Schindler Lift. The original book was Schindler's Ark, not sure why they changed it for the film, obviously the lift company wasn't on their radar.

The 'fun' CGI version could be called Schindler's Lark

Can't decide whether

  1. this is awful! why didn't they just write their own story? Why corrupt Orwell?

or

  1. fine - it will lead to more people reading the original.

It’s interesting to note that this is produced by Angel Studios, a Christian studio based in Utah dedicated to the production of ‘values-based’ content. Much of its content carries Christian themes. Another big release this month is ‘Melania’, a biopic about Melania Trump. Most of these productions are promoted by Trump/GOP pundits.

Not sure most Christians would agree that Mormons are Christians.

I agree - and that’s one of the odd things about it. The founders of the studio are Mormon, but they describe the content as broadly Christian and/or “values-based”.

Wow. The nerve of them.

At least Disney had been gracious enough to change Notre-Dame de Paris to the Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

Mochudubh · 18/12/2025 08:18

@TortillaKitty

Interesting. How does that fit with the message of this film apparently being "Socialism good, Capitalism bad"? I'd have thought a pro-Trump organisation would be the opposite.

I suppose none of us have seen the film yet, so we don't know.

Schoolchoicesucks · 18/12/2025 09:10

It's been so long since I watched the old animated film version - does it have the same ending as the book? Is the new film targeted at adults, young teens or toddlers?

Loving these quips 😁 that I don’t totally understand but am rolling with them in the spirit of Mornington Crescent

They're a play on words on Orwell titles, I changed "Down And Out in Paris And London" to:

Doing Jolly Well in Paris and London.

For example.

Mormons might think of themselves that way, especially if they are marketing a product.
