Robin Ince quits working for the BBC over his support for men in dresses and terrorists

Shame really he’s a nice guy, a huge bibliophile, met him a few times at book signings, the last live show of his I saw he did shoehorn in “and of course trans women are real women” or some such nonsense.

guessing the infinite monkey cage is cancelled now, that was in my top five podcasts.

can’t do a popular science show and think women can have a penis though. Wonder what Brian thinks?

the video of his love resignation , presumably at the end of a monkey cage recording, is here
https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1plg02g/bbc_presenter_robert_ince_claims_he_has_been/

notably he doesn’t say how men in dresses are being treated badly. Everyone has a blind spot.

You think that was what the BBC objected to, Pencils?

If he's been expressing support for a proscribed terrorist organisation I think the BBC would feel obliged to have a strong word, especially in the wake of the Prescott memo.

Yes. I suspect the BBC are engaged in more stringent enforcement of their impartiality rules, having been relatively lax for a long time. Given the Beeb’s ideological capture on the gender issue, I think it’s more likely that it’s Ince’s expression of pro-Palestinian views that caused the problem, though I don’t know, of course.

The best nominee so far, and she's from Manchester, so BC will love her. 😂

And he is the less well known part of a Radio 4 comedy science show.

He doesn't have the capital to make things awkward for his employer.

Totally. This government is very pro Israel. Rachel Reeves described herself as a Zionist. Although the Beeb advise their staff not to use that word. What a hall of mirrors. But Ince is unlikely to have been forced out over the trans issue. Why now anyway? Unless there has been a huge course correction ....

Yes, I take your point, especially after that female police officer was battered by some of these people.

‘so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.’

He’a talking about trans people here, yes? How weird to assume all trans people are kind and empathetic.

In the last few weeks I have seen/heard this sort of thing countless times. ‘Trans people are the most beautiful/kindest/purest people’. What, all of them? Is there any possibility some of them could be arseholes? I find it alarming that people can think and say that trans people are all nice. No one would speak like this about any other group. I honestly think that some TRAs genuinely believe there is something other-worldly about trans people.

I guess it’s happening because the house of cards is falling down. They can no longer pretend that science or the law is on their side, so they have resorted to ‘But trans people are beautiful angels!’

Oh dear, now I've got pictures in my head of much wafting about in and out the ladies like Delphine in Cold Comfort Farm.

itsnotfairisit · 13/12/2025 16:22

Not funny and not a scientist. I think Ince should be pleased he got away with it for so long.

I suspect there’s more to it, bet Cox can’t stand him. Remember when he accused Ricky Gervais of being a bully?
Who do I prefer, the moaning misogynist or the fella who’s given £2 million to charity this week? I bet Gervais is pissing himself reading that statement. What a self important nonentity he is.

PeppercornMill · 13/12/2025 17:24

His statement sounds a bit Greg Wallace-y.

We know when people talk nonsense because it is the same trope about "deny trans existence". I have not seen anyone deny that people with gender dysphoria exist. This issue is how you treat gender dysphoria, and lets not forget that there are many people who pretend to have gender dysphoria to get into female-only spaces.

SisterTeatime · 13/12/2025 11:11

When did (some) people become so invested in their view of themselves as ‘kind’, ‘good’, etc to the exclusion of logic and common sense?

I don't know, but that is about all they talk about in my kids schools. Everything else is very secondary to being kind.

Beerlzebub · 13/12/2025 11:11

I'm just scrolling down his BlueSky feed. Post after post about how awful the bigot Sandie Peggie is 🙄

Weird how absolutely apopleptic with anger she makes some men.

Or not.

SionnachRuadh · 13/12/2025 17:46

Celebrities often just aren't very bright, though I'm sure Robin identifies as being bright.

All Gary Lineker had to do was read out the football scores, laugh at Alan Shearer's terrible jokes, and advertise crisps, and he could have been a national treasure indefinitely. But noooo, he had to join Twitter and share his opinions, and Twitter Gary turned out to be an AI for reproducing whatever the Current Thing was, until eventually it got in the way of him doing his day job.

Gary Lineker was at least a big deal. I'm not sure how many people will notice Bluesky user Robin Ince doing a flounce.

Now sort out HIGNFY. There are teenagers alive today who can't believe that it was ever funny.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/12/2025 17:55

I definitely got the feeling during the last season that Ince’s ‘humour’ was wearing a bit thin with Brian Cox.

Kucinghitam · 13/12/2025 18:01

Being a long-time listener to the IMC, I've had the feeling for a long time that the relationship between Brian Cox and Robin Ince had chilled considerably in recent years. Gia Milinovich has been openly GC since forever* and I so rather suspect that Brian secretly is too, which must grate upon Ince like a Scotch Bonnet in an open wound.

*a long but unspecified time

Edit: Today's post has been brought to you by the phrase "a long time" Grin

EmpressDomesticatednottamed · 13/12/2025 18:10

If only Mr Ince had taken his job, ( which I gather was being amusing), as seriously as he takes himself. It's all just mind-boggling boring.
I wonder if this social media mularkey encourages people of his ilk to think that the correct sort of adoring masses are agog to read his latest tedious utterings or if the tendency was there all along and social media just lets us see what complete tits such persons always were. I suspect the latter.

Hmm. That mention of Ricky Gervais has made me pay more attention to something I saw earlier. I couldn't work out what/who Gia was referring to in her post from 20th Nov. But the first person replying to it, and laughing was - Ricky Gervais 🤔

These are the rules.

I think Robin Ince comes under the stricter rules because he is classified as a science presenter, but where do Sharron Davies and Martina Navratilova fit into this as commentators? Is their role different because they are commentating rather than presenting?

I heard rumours that Gary Lineker did it to become unsackable. He was getting to the age of being replaced and if he started to be political then the BBC sacking him would be seen as political. People said that 10 years ago Lineker knew nothing about politics and didn't care.

HildegardP · 13/12/2025 20:23

Splendid. Perhaps now they can find a co-host for TIMC who isn't wedded to anti-science, irrational sentimentalism about men in frocks. I'd quite like to go back to being a listener but Ince made that impossible.
