Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Ofcom will now investigate Talk Tv re transphobia.

Here we go again.

From Good Law Project:

We said we’d sue over Ofcom’s decision to dismiss 22,000 complaints about transphobia on TalkTV – now the regulator has caved.

But we had monitored its output for July 2025, a month in which it carried 11 discussions on trans people. And in every discussion, its hosts and guests consistently spouted transphobic views. TalkTV’s stance mirrors the broader editorial position of its sister newspaper The Times, whose toxic and intellectually dishonest campaign against trans people we believe to be a contributor to the rise in hate crime against them.

Among my misdeeds, apparently, is that I said this on air: "By definition, if you’ve had to get a piece of paper to say that you are a woman, you must accept then that you are man."

I'm happy to be found guilty of defending women's rights and safety, knowing the actual law, understanding basic biology and knowing what a woman is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think people on this thread should really read this. It's a very good account of how being trans has got nothing to do with stereotypes!

Depends for whom.

I still can't get out of my mind the interview of that transwoman with the massive breasts almost falling out of her hot-pink strappy babydoll dress, explaining that they were a transwoman because "they liked women so much, they wanted to become one". Nothing about feeling like a woman inside, everything about emulating female stereotypes.

puppymaddness · 07/12/2025 17:35

nicepotoftea · 07/12/2025 17:31

It is an account of Seethlaw's experience.

You have agreed that there is no requirement for anyone to have the same experience to identify as trans.

It's an account of how someone can have the perception of sex as being other than their sex at birth (in this case male); without this being anything to do with a projection of gender stereotypes. It's exactly the type of thing that people find logically difficult to understand:

Except that it is nearly always, in the case of TIMs, a case of horrific gender stereotypes.

So how come a lot of parents of “trans kids” claim they knew their kid was trans because they liked things usually enjoyed by the opposite sex ( looking at you Susie Green)? Or thst batshittery woman on another thread claiming she knew her son was really a girl before he could speak because he waved at some pictures of women? Or are you saying they are lying? A lot of males with trans identities use stereotypes to “prove” they’re really women. Are they lying?

nicepotoftea · 07/12/2025 17:38

And if you look at the latest census, a third of people who specified a gender identity did not identify as male or female, so don't have a similar experience.

(If you include some of the people who didn't specify any gender identity, most people indicating that their gender identity was different to their sex registered at birth don't identify as male or female, but it's not clear how many people didn't understand the question).

Namelessnelly · 07/12/2025 17:39

PS @puppymaddness amy joy on those definitions yet? Not meaning to pester but you seemed so clear earlier and now you seem to have forgotten to give us them.

Exactly. There was a very high percentage in the London Borough of Brent. No way are they all trans, they didn't get the question. And reasonably so as it was incredibly badly phrased.

As I said, according to the Stonewall definition any gender critical feminist is trans.

I think this is an unfair projection of someone else's experience

How so? If you are critical of gender stereotypes, you do not wish to be enchained by the one society has deemed you should have.

How is that different to trans?

In childhood it's very developmentally normal for children to express their gender through rigid stereotypes/ roles . It's part of how children acquire understanding about gender and identity. For example, it is very typical for children to go through a phase of only playing with same gender peers, to have very gendered interests etc. trans kids are no different in this respect.

There is no such thing as a "trans kid", any more than there is a vegan cat.

Totally, there is only an inappropriate controlling adult with an agenda in those situations.

But it’s true. A lot of GC feminists do not adhere to the gender stereotypes of their birth sex so therefore according to you, we’re trans.

it's whistling into the wind isn't it.

To be trans has nothing to do with gender stereotypes.

To be trans is to have a difference related to the brain / psyche whereby you persistently , pervasively perceives yourself (stonewall summarise this perception as "gender") to be other than your birth sex. It can be completely debilitating to deny and repress this feeling. There is no evidence it can be "cured".

This is nothing like being gender critical. Although there may be trans people who are also gender critical, such as the pp we have on this thread.

what? I've spent the entire thread explaining that being trans has nothing to do with gender stereotypes.

Ooh is this another definition you say we’re wrong on? Make it easy on yourself, one post with all the definitions. It’ll be simple right. And btw youre wrong. Trans is everything to do with stereotypes.

What are you talking about? This is the same definition I've been posting all thread.

You obviously aren't reading ,
you just want to argue. That's really not interesting or worthwhile.

murasaki · 07/12/2025 17:58

What's your horse in this race, Puppy? You don't have any coherent arguments, or at least none that you are willing to explain. Trans niece syndrome?

ha. Well we will have to agree to disagree on that won't we:
I suppose history will be the judge.

But it is YOUR definition. It is not the definition that most of the trans community is using, which generally boils down to 'I'm trans if I say I am'.
