NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #55

nauticant · 19/11/2025 22:05

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence was 29 July 2025. It resumed again over 1 to 2 September for closing submissions.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February 2025. Sandie Peggie returned to give more evidence on 29 July 2025.

Access to view the second part of the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to: [email protected]

Refreshing to hear the interviewer referring to Dr Sad Times as a biological male

What interview is this please? I just skimmed back and all I can see is a print version of a BBC interview with Naomi Campbell. What did I miss!!

I will have a listen after work. Is there much pearl clutching by the presenters?

There is a bit, but Naomi isn't having it and stands up for herself as well as we'd all expect, which is brilliantly.

The only disappointment for me is that it was a radio recording. I was hoping it was filmed because I wanted to see more of her outfit.

Plenty - Naomi is saying things like kids need boundaries. If your child wanted to cut off their leg you might want to parent them more effectively not affirm their belief they have one leg too many.

Shes laughing a lot.

I can only conclude that that she has a positive judgement in hand.

SexRealismBeliefs · 27/11/2025 16:33

Also saying Jane Russell was invited on Scotcast but declined....

Haha, go Naomi!

Very interesting interview. I thought at first that the interviewer was being quite confrontational, but the sense of her words clearly shone through and he appeared to be actively listening in the end. One of the most telling moments was when he asked her how she got on with her opponent. Long, long pause...........

FarriersGirl · 27/11/2025 17:29

Naomi comes across so clearly. Her use of language is precise and she deals with the more contentious issues in a way that will make a lot of people think more deeply about trans activism and its impacts IMO.

Conxis · 27/11/2025 17:30

Gosh do we think the judgement is imminent and BBC attempting to get ahead on this???

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 27/11/2025 17:51

I hope so Conxis

Tomorrowisanewday · 27/11/2025 17:58

It's on the Scotcast podcast. Martin Geissler questioning, who I rate as a journalist, and seems to be asking the questions I'd want answered

She also says she will carry on with the fight as long as she is able to help. So at the very least at this stage she seems to have no reason to think others could do it better. What she said about settling cases also very interesting - complete capitulation by the other side PLUS COSTS or see you in court at least on the costs issue

I’m listening to it for the second time.

She’s found her passion and she’s extremely skilled from 30 years of experience. It’s a wonderful thing to be watch/ hear.

Very inspiring actually on that perspective alone.

I actually know Carol Potter, she is a friend of mine of longstanding. You’ve all constructed a persona for her ( based on assumptions and inflammatory newspaper articles) that I do not recognise.
There are entirely legitimate reasons why she could choose to retire this summer that you don’t know about.
You’ve all been a bit too about gleeful about the outcome, I think it is very unpleasant and not constructive at all.

The time for pleasantness and constructivity was long past when Sandie Peggie was so appallingly treated that she had no choice but to take legal action. Maybe your friend could reflect on that.

No, we've simply said that she has not provided competent, clear leadership on this issue to NHS Fife. And, given that that is her job, it's right that she should step down. Fish rots from the head.

She's paid enough to get it right. Sandie Peggie's treatment has been appalling.

I'm sure she's a lovely friend but I wouldn't want to work for her.

SternJoyousBeev2 · 27/11/2025 18:18

stunning from Naomi Cunningham. The TRAs will be raging about this interview.

Love the section about how she gets on with Jane Russell!

Thanks for sharing.

What do you think of your friend’s job performance?

Either way NHS Fife’s staff will be safer. I’m gleeful about the potential of that.

I know people who work for NHS Fife. She's raising a lot of eyebrows there - her handling of this and the way she has allowed Sandie Peggie to be treated is nothing short of appalling.

The fiasco happened on her watch and she must have been aware of it. She either decided to ignore it or to allow the treatment of SP to continue. Either way she is culpable and in most industries people who are shown to be incompetent are usually subjected to some level of disciplinary action. In this instance if she jumped or was pushed is immaterial.
She might be a lovely person and a great friend but people’s views will be influenced by what has happened as they believe she did the wrong thing, that’s just life.
