Never heard the word toadpoles before but I love it. Respect! We make them too but never thought of calling them that.

They're brilliant party food. Just drizzle a bit of horseradish mayo on top and people ooh and aah as if you've done something complicated.

SexRealistic · 21/11/2025 10:28

Yes indeed. Another BIGLY texter. 🙄

Well I think if she is a Co-Chair of the organisation who wrote that not sending one email was ‘gross misconduct’ and planned to get Sara to a clear destination’ her inability to look anywhere near Naomi was relevant.

We don’t need to stare - but I know when my kids are lying by how they avoid eye contact and evasive.

LBD was putting on a good child like act - Naomi was just asking her to adult a bit.

I tend to agree. I’m not very comfortable with eye contact and my tolerance is probably shorter than most people’s. But I make an effort, especially in professional and important situations, or when I want someone to agree with me. Sometimes you just have to adult.

ProfessorBinturong · 21/11/2025 10:36

On my way (with charger this time).

I've checked my notes and it was the judge, not DrE, who asked how many 'very few' was.

weegielass · 21/11/2025 10:41

Morning all, eagerly awaiting the submissions. Do we know when it starts?

ProfessorScorchedTerf · 21/11/2025 10:48

Re Dr Elves and her case with the police chief withholding evidence. And the popular view from the top that women don't sue.
I think crowd funding has allowed a lot of women to stand up for themselves in an arena that was pretty much for well off men.
edit to add that Dr CE was pro bono in this case

SexRealistic · 21/11/2025 10:51

Submissions at 12 now.

Maybe a late ⏰ minute capitulation from from Sean. 🙃 Actually Judge on the evidence while there were too many complaints there were also very few.

And since we said this wasn’t political but disclosed an absolute tonne of things showing our board saying Sara should be black balled from Trans projects as we ushered her to her clear destination - we’ve had a wee think.

I want to read them. Please let them be open justice & published.

Malapropism.

Almost, but I thought a malaprop was a mistake, and in this case both ape and eight could be correct.

There were ape-like beings in the Indus, and there were eight types of animal on the Harappan seal-tablets.

Perhaps being wrong isn’t necessary, it just has to be someone substituting a less familiar but similar-sounding word in a well-known phrase.

It’s the power of women organizing & the JKR fund that has changed the power dynamic.

Holding the justicary to account, highlighting the connections and conspiracy in the arts, doing things with grace in face of challenges.

Naomi and Dr Elves are doing a great work. And so are the the so many women who have stood up and true things out loud. And who have gardened. And gathered here to debate and discuss and share wisdom.

It’s a journey. Truth will prevail.

Portmanteau?

ProfessorBinturong · 21/11/2025 11:08

No, a portmanteau is combining part of 2 words to make a new one.

Start time today should be 11.30.

ProfessorBinturong · 21/11/2025 11:13

Ah, no - word is postponed to 12.

CarefulN0w · 21/11/2025 11:15

Completely agree about the power of crowd funding changing the dynamic. It’s meant the pendulum hasn’t swung back through bullying and shouting, but via quiet, powerful legal activism supported by thousands of women. (And I’m sure some men).

As a quiet soul, can I just say that I’m quietly proud of us all.

I have rediscovered how to do bigly writing.

All set for this afternoon.

Eggcorn! That's the word you want! Like "old wise tale", or "damp squid" 😁

Like the phrases dull as ditch water and dull as dish water.

Different words (think ditch was the original) but sound similar and both work as intended.

Can’t think of what it’s called though.

Cross posted, yes, eggcorn!!

EdithStourton · 21/11/2025 11:24

One I came across recently was, I couldn't phantom what he meant.

Also, Vile's decease for Weil's disease.

ProfessorStlcakethereforeIam · 21/11/2025 11:24

Isn't 'mondegreen' used for something similar?

ProfessorEmeritaVeraAtkins · 21/11/2025 11:27

That's a mishearing

ProfessorEmeritaVeraAtkins · 21/11/2025 11:28

For years I thought Madonna was singing 'last night I dreamt of some dago' and thought it was a bit much.

Hello!

I'm back!

I see Nick has posted some preliminary tweets.

Give me a sec to sit down and I'll begin.

Couldn't have timed this better.

moto748e · 21/11/2025 11:34

Well I've learnt what an eggcorn is this morning. Every day, etc.

From NW

Good morning from Killymeal House in Belfast. This is the final day of Morrison v Belfast Film Festival. Closing submissions are currently being read by the judge and there will be a hearing at noon for comments on those submissions, questions and clarifications. I will...

tweet those proceedings and, presuming I am able to get them, anything interesting from the written submissions themselves. There are a good number of people here who were expecting court to start at 1130 (as was originally scheduled). There are no lawyers here yet...

... and no one from either party, save Laurence McKeown from the Belfast Film Festival. I can't imagine this will be a long hearing, but here are some abbreviations and a standard disclaimer before we begin...

J - Employment Judge Lisa Sturgeon
MM - panelist Michael McKeown
BFF - Belfast Film Festival - also R for Respondent
SM - Sara Morrison - also C for Claimant
SD - Sean Doherty, BFF Barrister
NC - Naomi Cunningham, SM Barrister

Disclaimer: my tweets are summaries and characterisations of what is being said and/or happening in court. NOTHING IS A DIRECT QUOTE UNLESS IT IS IN "DIRECT QUOTES".

If you'd like to receive a newsletter rounding up today's proceedings, please consider a small one-off donation, which is how I've been funding my reporting over the last two weeks. Your donations have allowed me to...
