Then Blackadder was being ingenious and using a - I can’t think of the word, not quite double meaning or pun, but something along those lines.

Excellent! Thank you for enlightening me.

Malapropism.

So the judge told off NC and Dr CE for their first application but we think that meant they could also expand on their concerns?

She carpetted them (summoned them to the carpet in front of her desk) for not turning up in court at the appointed time. The recusal application for Boyd was sidestepped, not dealt with formally, & sidestepped with the ill health explanation. The judge's attitude is generally reported to have changed, well away from 'my office, now!' on Friday morning, to detailed reasoning when rejecting the 2nd recusal application.

My post speculated that the private session involved discussion as well as the expected telling off.

Carpet = severely reprimand

As opposed to the possible apocryphal Civil Service 'meeting without biscuits.' I do hope it's true.

SexRealistic · 21/11/2025 07:09

Well here we are - submission day.

Let’s hope Nick Wallis gets a copy and kindly shares.

More power to your elbow Sara! You’ve stood up for the rights of all women to speak freely on matters that matter to them.

Songs for Solidarity, online hate mobs, very few/ many Outbursts complaints & your employers all tried to silence you.

You stood firm. May the submissions tell the story and may the Tribunal panel make a fair decision. 🙏

I agree that there were changes after the first recusal application, I've been wondering what was said here:
From Friday NW: "The judge, does, however, have a right (apparently) to privately carpet the parties, which she is doing right now.",
if this was just the judge NC & CE, they had an opportunity to bite back more effectively than in open court, especially if the judge let off too much steam.

Good point. I’d missed that. Given the different tone it may well be that EJ got carpeted back — respectfully.

I think Mumsnet did a bit of carpeting with the ole Professor melarkey

Naomi doesn’t do carpeting. She just observes.

She just observes stuff like you haven’t looked at her in the eye - but states she doesn’t want the Tribunal to have to force eye contact. But you know she’s forced eye contact. And you aren’t getting out of the stare alive.

Malapropism.

No, that's using a completely wrong word.

ProfessorBinturong · 21/11/2025 07:52

Must admit, I wasn't entirely comfortable with the eye contact thing. It may be a sign of lying in some instances, but some of us just find it really difficult whatever the circumstances.

IamEarthymama · 21/11/2025 07:54

I have avidly followed all the tribunal threads, in awe at the bravery of women who stand firm for women’s rights and against gender ideology.

Sara, thank you for your strength and determination, I will be thinking of you today.
You have an army of women standing with you. 💜💚🤍

Nick W, thank you too for the tweeting, it’s so important.

To all the Mumsnetters who organise threads, apply forensic investigation skills, expose lies and grifting, explain the law and other sundry and fascinating subjects, make me laugh out loud, stand firm against gender ideology, please accept huge thanks for your sterling work.

ProfessorOfAllTheThings · 21/11/2025 07:57

SternlyMatthews · 20/11/2025 19:31

Its a pity the article doesnt mention it, but she is Dr Elves (DPhil in Law, Oxford).

This is to give credit where it is due, as this thread has a sharp focus on academic titles.

I heartily agree.

Dr CE from here on in for me!

She can even prove it 🤣

In my childhood in Yorkshire we ate individual Yorkshires with gravy as a first course (I’ve since been told this was the Yorkshire way to take the edge off your appetite before you got to the expensive part of the meal), then possibly again with gravy, roast meat and veg as the main course. While we were eating another batch would go into the oven, to be eaten with strawberry jam as the pudding course.

This continued when we moved to Lancashire but I don’t know if the neighbours there did the same.

We used to have them first with gravy at my nan’s house (I’m also from Yorkshire). Some of us would have them with jam on instead of gravy and I used to have golden syrup on mine. My breakfast when I stayed there was freshly baked bread, best butter and golden syrup. They wanted to fatten me up as I was a very skinny kid.

We used to have them as main meal and pudding (I'm a proud mongrel. Welsh, Irish and London) With loads of gravy with the main and then golden syrup and cream for afters.

These days I make mine in silicon muffin tins that are also great for toadpoles in the hole. No greasing needed and you just peel them off. Okay they discolour after a while in the heat, but I buy them in sales.

I’m not a big cream fan so I would never have thought to add that to my syrup. I bet it’s nice though. My husband does the weekend cooking and he usually makes a massive pudding. We have half, leave the other half in the tin and cover in foil to warm up in the oven the day after.

We throughly approve of Dr CE, and choice of companion animal.

Sorry for the diversion into Yorkshire pudding and the quantity that my sons & mates can eat. Did not blow up the thread thank goodness.
One of them is big and burly, one of them is wiry - if there were weight classes, they would both be Olympic standard eaters.

Every time a thread pings slightly off topic, I just think of the Aston scrapers and the fact they couldn't cope with all the recipes and side bars and in jokes - and it makes me happy. And I still remember the primary school child who came for tea once - now 6'5" - who when offered seconds, eyed up what was left in the saucepan and queried whether he should just finish the lot to save me having to clear it up!

I was marvelling at the logistics of cooking 72 puddings; you either did them in batches or you have an olympic-sized oven!

We get some odd kit-requests on our neighbours' Whatsapp (generally jump leads, DIY or cider-making related) but we are yet to have "I need to make 72 yorkies, can I borrow some trays".

I think it makes people seem more human and less one-dimensional instead of repeating the same thing over and over again. As much as I enjoy the serious side of threads, it is healthy to have a bit of light relief. I can’t believe how interesting these ET threads have been. I’ve learnt so much and I’m really appreciative of all of the posters, pasters and pastors.

Well I think if she is a Co-Chair of the organisation who wrote that not sending one email was ‘gross misconduct’ and planned to get Sara to a clear destination’ her inability to look anywhere near Naomi was relevant.

We don’t need to stare - but I know when my kids are lying by how they avoid eye contact and evasive.

LBD was putting on a good child like act - Naomi was just asking her to adult a bit.

Never heard the word toadpoles before but I love it. Respect! We make them too but never thought of calling them that.

It’s important to have something to distract from the righteous anger.

And ahem I would like to offer a correction. Professors, posters, pasters and pastors

I agree that it's best not judged too aoon under circumstances where the individual is unknown, but there is a lot of video footage of LB around where she is poised and making confident eye contact, in busy settings that arent apparently phasing her. She doesn't seem, eg, to be autistic but, if she is, then she could have made the tribunal aware and NC wouldn't have had a leg to stand on.

Bowednotbroken · 21/11/2025 10:21

My initials are Dr CE - could get confusing…but only for me as nobody else ever remembers to use it and they call me ‘Mrs’ instead (grumble groan).
Thanks from me too, for all the work that goes into these threads.

One two very few.
Had anyone got any
Clue which of these is true?

One two thousand
Erection for a screen
One hundred thousand
A PRIDE film never seen

One two many
One two very few
Women’s rights are toxic
Transphobe was their view
