could she have gotten her PHD fairly recently and its not online yet? Trying to be fair. One of her FB friends referred to her as doctor 4 weeks ago.

Can you PM me that’s stuff?

It’s not clear that he was the journalist who flagged an issue - in fact all evidence points to it not being him.

But his live tweeting and round ups have helped enormously

Such a shame TT couldn't cover this one as they deserve the scoop too

But it has massively highlighted that what TT have done elsewhere that is now being emulated by NW is an utterly vital service that genuinely changes outcomes and processes.

I don’t think that’s right.

At 10pm on Thursday NC team was made aware of PBs affiliation to women’s group mentioned by SM in her speech.

They were late because that triggered writing the application for recusal.

During the process of presenting application they were handed a note from a journo — and so don’t think we know what that note said altho there has been speculation,

Thanks. Who made them aware, is that known? And was it Friday morning that the ‘cc all’ email was read out?

KittyWilkinson · 15/11/2025 09:33

Excellent work FWR, you are very special women indeed. Flowers
There's a whole lot of grifting going on around this Tribunal it seems.

So that's how they deliver justice round here Judge?

Bernie from BBC has been suggested

I thought it was a visiting professor at Ulster and environmental tutor at Queen's?

Sorry, yes! Didn’t check before posting it’s moving so fast.

Didn’t he ask that deliberations over whether recusal should happen be conducted in public? Otherwise we might never have known what was said and how dodgy it sounded.

We don’t know and it was read out earlier in the week when NC was questioning MD.

I caught up with this yesterday.

All the academics I know seem to publish a paper at astonishing regularity and are nagged to do so by their establishments. Honorary degrees tend to get a hefty amount of coverage in local press. If she taught at all, some in NI ought to remember her.

The combo of Naomi and Charlotte wouldn’t be flying by the seat of their pants on something as risky as this. I suspect the judge is having an uncomfortable weekend.

Mmmnotsure · 15/11/2025 06:04

This Dr title sounds even more odd than the Professor one. There's a possibility that you might have been able to use Professor for a while if you taught on a university course (?), but a doctorate has to be either earned – with thesis – or conferred as honorary, in which case there would be documentation/pretty pictures with robes.

There are other categories of non-medical doctorates, which do not require the thesis/viva route. Eg Doctorate in Education, but I couldn't find a few years ago what you had to do to earn that title. I was also looking at UK, but apologies by that I probably mean English/Welsh.

I'm now starting to suspect that I know what Charlie's Angels did when they grew up! They joined Mumsnet and I'm in awe of them.

Largesso · 15/11/2025 09:13

Thank you. But also not a title to be used in the manner of titles.

ie Joe Bloggs, Visiting Professor at Pantsonfire University

Not

Professor Joe Bloggs

…unless the reason you are a visiting prof is because you have a chair elsewhere.

if you are emeritus you would be

Professor Emeritus Joe Bloggs

or

Joe Bloggs (Honorary Professor)

if I’ve read the research so far correctly?

Correct, this is my understanding of the academic conventions at least in England (work in academia). Different conventions may apply elsewhere in the UK, of course.

In England we also didn't traditionally have Assistant Prof, Associate Prof. These were Lecturer and Reader respectively. So if somebody was titled Prof, that meant full Professor. Certainly this was the case while DH was working his way up the academic greasy pole and he's not exactly a fossil yet.

Would add that I personally don't know of any academic who would be styled Visiting Professor (as opposed to Visiting Other-Job-Description) unless they already had an actual chair elsewhere, but can't say for sure whether the academics I know are just less brass-necked.

AnnoyingAlarm · 15/11/2025 09:48

I keep coming back to the vehemence with which the judge reacted to yesterday's developments and delays. There was no moderation or temperance, no professional curiosity as to the reasons for the delay and a complete lack of inhibition at expressing displeasure and accusing legal colleagues of disrespect (that was not repeated when the SD was actually gob-smackingly rude).

It seems to me that the judge did not do well at maintaining impartiality or reserving judgement and extending professional courtesy at all yesterday.

And I would hope for a great deal of reflection on who is accusing who of disrespecting the process given that the fundamental credentials of members of the panel are being called into question.

Yes, I have also been pondering this.

It also struck me at the time about SD saying he would 'vehemently appose' any recusal application. He didn't know what they were going to say! Did he?

And as someone said earlier, NC was following correct process.

I agree the reaction from the judge was 🤔.

I agree the reaction from the judge was 🤔.

And it's another barrier to anyone raising concerns, even when they are trying to do it appropriately and as quickly as they can.

NC was putting forward a great case and doing well. She didn't need to look for loopholes to pull things. She did what she had to do yesterday because she had to do it.

She raised an issue when she was made aware of it, by the methods required, to the people needed, in line with her professional legal and ethical duties. She worked as hard and fast as she could to ensure that her obligations wrt to correct admin and process were met and she was professional and polite throughout.

The judge, panel and R legal team did not behave well at all.
