Welcome to The Bluestocking, the perfectly overblown, gloriously chaotic all-women’s pub where you can have a bit of a lie down if you need it.

Expect serious debates on musicals, cake and knitting, and whimsical musings on women’s rights and why the world’s on fire (again), all under the calm supervision of our support staff: gerbils, capybaras, and the occasional quokka on secondment.

The alcohol won’t get you drunk, the pastries won’t make you fat, but the conversation will digress, and that’s the point.

Remember to namechange before posting if you’re sometimes someone else.

😂

Also I think the husky rat should be called Harriet. And it's MY thread so that is the law. [ignoring my own comment above so I get my way]

Oh thank goodness. The other name kept reminding me of 'Who killed Hanratty?'.

Boiledbeetle · 15/11/2025 17:13

Is it just me or has Harriet gone on lunch and left a stand in?

You don't think she's brought the entire family do you?

Huskies surely should always come as a team.

I've been out all day, and stumble back in 15,000 steps later to find this place just as mad as ever.

Please carry on.

Excellent, love it.

Very quiet in here this evening...
Marie left at about 6 and Brains, Batshit and I have been cuddled up next to the fire. One every bored gerbil left on duty at the bar; the others have taken the husky rat to the spa for a spruce-up.

Boily isn't a small insect, is she?

<Rosy! NO! That's not an amuse-bouche, that's Boily!>

Well let's just say she's smaller now...😨

😨😅

Thanks everyone for tending the thread. It's not "my" thread but I did start it and I feel I should be here more often.

I was on Tribunal pasting duty yesterday and catching up on that thread took hours this morning and I see there are another 50 posts already.

Plus big family discussions about the urgent situation which has been resolved for now but will require more attention in the next couple of weeks. I won't say exactly what it is as it's very sensitive and involves a child. I don't have children.

So hello everyone and welcome to the new people whether staying or visiting and a big wave at the lurkers. We know you are here and I hope you are enjoying the ridiculousness.

There may have been ridiculousness from some people, but I did my best to keep up the intellectual and edifying tone by providing some facts about Coleoptera.

I have been too scared to go and spend 10 minutes contemplating my navel since reading what my relatives do.

FuzzyPuffling · 15/11/2025 21:20

I'm briefly here, but tired, so I'll be off soon.

Gwenda will be reading you your bedtime story tonight.

I hope that's a Rosy red panda teddy otherwise she's shrunk!

Sweet dreams x

Did anybody get flooded? Our road became a torrent but nobody was flooded and the stream runs aback the village.

Flooded? What have I missed? It's not even raining at mine.

<Goes off to read a news site>

lcakethereforeIam · 15/11/2025 23:29

No. All the bins blew over, a tree dropped a branch on a green at the end of the street and one of the main roads was closed, we think because it flooded. There's an underpass, that rain water runs down into. They put pumps there because they expected this but tanks they dug to hold the pumped water are either too small or don't drain fast enough and this always happens. We seem to have got off quite lightly.

I believe it was bad in parts of Wales, Monmouth, and the Ouse burst its banks.

MarieDeGournay · 15/11/2025 23:54

I'm determined to get to bed tonight before it becomes tomorrow! so g'night, a peaceful safe night's sleep to all🌛

Goodnight all

ErrolTheDragon · 16/11/2025 00:02

Unless Britinme or anyone else nor on gmt is around in which case good evening.

Britinme · 16/11/2025 03:41

<Wafts through thread in a non-GMT manner>

We’ve just been to pick up DS1 from the bus from Logan airport (Boston). It’s gone 3am by his body clock so he’s gone straight to bed. He’s here for a couple of weeks and next Sunday we’re all off to see DS2 and the grandchildren for Thanksgiving.

ChristmasStars · 16/11/2025 10:16

Just catching up. Had a mad busy day yesterday then sank on the sofa when we got in late, to find that a Bridget Jones film was on. You know how sometimes you end up just watching something even though you know it's pointless drivel and you really should go to bed?

Harriet is a lovely name!

MarieDeGournay · 16/11/2025 10:31

Have a lovely time with DS1 Britinme when he wakes upSmile
I don't want to speak to soon, but it looks like the rain might have stopped here in the East of Ireland - lots of flooding but fortunately none near me.

I wonder how Hedgie is getting on on her boat, I have a feeling that 'idyllic' isn't the word to describe it, given the weather, but maybe she likes the misery😁

It's been remarkably quiet here, just outside the edge of the yellow warning area. I've been contending with a different sort of flooding, so I'm going to sit in the corner with a full English and concentrate on rebuilding my iron levels. Rosy is welcome to join me if she's awake yet.

I think we had a yellow warning but we just have mud. It's that time of the year anyway.

I caught a train this morning. It wasn't replaced by a bus and it left bang on time. No rain-inspired excuses for terrible service, just unexpected efficiency .
