https://genderblog.net/cambridge-students-launch-single-sex-society-for-women/

this is fantastic news. The background to their story is however concerning. It should have never got this bad.

Oh well done Hadley 🙌 Always makes her point with clarity and intelligence!

I have to say that Cambridge has gone dramatically down in my esteem since reading about the abuse those women have suffered from other students.

It is utterly shameful and undermines any notion that graduates from Cambridge are "the best and the brightest".

Cambridge is full of (in no particular order):

Money donated for 'Queer Studies' chairs and PhDs
Rich humanities students who have too much time to think about their outfits
People with ASD who feel different
Students who want to change the world and do a bit of activism
Well meaning but naive middle class people

It didn't used to be quite this bad but went very nuts during Covid. The collapse of humanities in other universities has just made the insulated bubble even worse. A load of people got appointed after George Floyd (I still don't understand why this was such a big deal in a small town in the Fens) to decolonize everything in sight as well and now we appear to be stuck with them.

Yes, it is puzzling.

I hope the first event went well without any problems.

Thank you to the OP who posted about this group. I joined as an alumna and will be keeping tabs on it from afar (sadly too far for me to attend in person.)

It is shameful. But most of these students at elite universities are book smart only, and more child-like in other areas like dealing with opinions and views that conflict with their own, and being kind and thoughtful to others.

Only if you think that intelligence equates with decency, honesty and all those other heroic qualities.

You can be absolutely splendid at Latin, thermonuclear physics or the late mediaeval history of abandoned villages in Derbyshire and still an absolute dick.

Kucinghitam · 28/11/2025 10:07

Just joined as an affiliate alumna as well.

Critical thinking?

Just seen on Twix that the society is now officially registered by the university, despite the lack of response from the Students Union. 👏👏

That’s really good news.

A recent article from the Times. The SU's statements irritated me. I'm pretty sure the Society of Women will not be indulging in behaviour that is "abusive, offensive, violent or criminal, or publishing material that is grossly inaccurate, defamatory, deliberately misleading, harmful or menacing." Hmm

Student union ‘no choice’ but to approve Cambridge Society of Women

The union said it supported ‘trans inclusivity’ but was obliged under the Equality Act to register the new society, which is only for those born female

Imdunfer · 20/12/2025 08:28

They aren't trans exclusive. They have explicitly issued an invitation to women who live as men to join.

The only people who ever seem to matter in these discussions verbal assaults by trans supporters are men who want to believe that they are women.

I hope the University reported criminal damage of a door to the police but somehow I doubt it.

And here's a compilation of all the comments so far that are the misogyny equivalent of "So when is it White History Month? And why don't White Lives Matter?"

Also lost count of the comments of "but what about Trans Women??" and "But How can you possibly define what a woman is? It is impossible!!!"

(In case anyone on this thread thinks the comments in this image are reasonable : all-female gatherings, facilities and opportunities are permitted because it is legitimate for women who are disadvantaged compared to men in many ways, to organise to combat those disadvantages and to create a springboard to enable women to participate on equal terms. All-male gatherings and opportunities would be intrinsically working to advantage the already-advantaged and priviledged and no that is not legitimate. The all-male clubs where deals are done and power is brokered are not in any way equivalent or legitimate. All-male facilities for changing, washing etc with privacy and dignity without a bunch of women giggling about the size of your cock is entirely legitimate though. For exactly the same reasons it is legitimate to have gatherings and opportunities that exclude white people, but it is not legitimate to have gatherings and opportunities that exclude non-white people. People have forgotten how to check their privilege. The disadvantages and challenges that are intrinsic to being female do not apply to transwomen (as they are male) although some of them do apply to transmen (as they are female). It is entirely reasonable and legal for groups like this to be emphatically Single Sex.)

Its interesting isn't it? I mean why ask women if there's a men only group - why would we know? It's none of our business. Ask the men at the university if they're setting one up, or offer to do it yourself. We aren't your servants or your mummy.

The problem is that they define "harmful" as refusing to accept that a man can ever become a woman, saying that it's harmful to trans people to state that view. In their book, the existence of the women only group is harmful by definition.

Universities, and Cambridge in particular, are sounding very divorced from the real, rational, world lately.

You've obviously never been willing to speak out in defence of what you know to be right, knowing that doing so would open you to appalling abuse from the intolerant and blinkered.

Appalling abuse from where? From whom? They're in Cambridge university. Not exactly the bastion of oppression.

I'm non-white. Would you like to retract that ignorant statement of yours?

They've been bullied by their fellow students for holding extraordinary views like 'men can't become women' and 'women deserve single sex spaces'.

You think because the institution is privileged overall there can’t be bullying in it?
I’m sure all the kids who were abused at elite public schools over the years wish that was the case.
