this is fantastic news. The background to their story is however concerning. It should have never got this bad.

Amazing news.

DH reports that the tampon dispenser has been removed from the mens toilets at Cambridge University Library so he has hopes that sense is breaking out.

However there is still a mysterious container of 'wimmin's stuff' that he hasn't been able to get close enough to identify - he has poor vision and 'I don't want to look like a weirdo'. He nearly figured out what it was last week but then another bloke came in so his attempt was abandoned.

Small steps in the right direction. Congratulations to these women for taking a stand.

😆😆🤣 that image made me laugh ❤️

God. He’s such an incoherent bellend.

I read that as “incontinent bellend.” Which is equally apt I guess, what with all the waste spewing…

Spoke too soon, DH has just asked me 'what's a Lil-let?' 😂

These are the mystery items in the tray, alongside something that from his description of the box is sanitary towels.

Apparently the number of items in the tray varies but DH thinks they are all being taken by blokes egged on by their wives on Mumsnet, rather than transmen having a period emergency in the mens.

And we all know how successful most of his “fights” have been. #goodlaughproject

How brave! Not just launching but being so public. And sad to read what they have endured.

But honestly -

We are hearing some very troubling stories about trans exclusion, supported by the University, at Cambridge. We are making contact with affected societies and individuals and will fiercely protect the legal rights of trans students to live with respect and dignity.

Yet another example of how TRAs make it clear that for them it isn't about helping those with gender disphoria, it about making women accept that their rights have no status. And should be punished it they presume to say they do have rights.

Its one society out of how many at the University.

No doubt there is a "women's" society where TW are welcome.

To be fair I believe the Cambridge rowing teams have just banned blokes from the women's team

And here's a compilation of all the comments so far that are the misogyny equivalent of "So when is it White History Month? And why don't White Lives Matter?"

Also lost count of the comments of "but what about Trans Women??" and "But How can you possibly define what a woman is? It is impossible!!!"

(In case anyone on this thread thinks the comments in this image are reasonable : all-female gatherings, facilities and opportunities are permitted because it is legitimate for women who are disadvantaged compared to men in many ways, to organise to combat those disadvantages and to create a springboard to enable women to participate on equal terms. All-male gatherings and opportunities would be intrinsically working to advantage the already-advantaged and priviledged and no that is not legitimate. The all-male clubs where deals are done and power is brokered are not in any way equivalent or legitimate. All-male facilities for changing, washing etc with privacy and dignity without a bunch of women giggling about the size of your cock is entirely legitimate though. For exactly the same reasons it is legitimate to have gatherings and opportunities that exclude white people, but it is not legitimate to have gatherings and opportunities that exclude non-white people. People have forgotten how to check their privilege. The disadvantages and challenges that are intrinsic to being female do not apply to transwomen (as they are male) although some of them do apply to transmen (as they are female). It is entirely reasonable and legal for groups like this to be emphatically Single Sex.)

I’m so happy about this. I’m local and would join but it’s currently just for students. Very proud of them.

RareGoalsVerge · 27/10/2025 18:11

I also saw a few comments along the lines of "but two of those 3 people in the photo could pass for men!" - which is simply weird. If anyone genuinely thinks that then they must be just not very observant.

All-male associations and clubs are legal, and require no justification. Schedule 16 EA 2010.

It’s one of the oldest, laziest slurs in the book, isn’t it? Feminists/women who stand up for themselves are insufficiently feminine!
The people saying it have no idea we see straight through it, it’s not quite the devastating comment they imagine.

Anyway, props to these very brave young women and I am absolutely appalled by the bullying they have experienced. The university should be ashamed of itself for allowing an atmosphere to develop where that behaviour is normalised.

Cambridge is rampantly TWAW. The head of the so-called femsoc marched in a demo against the FWS ruling with a sign about 'supporting all sisters not just cisters'. I'd be amazed if any of the university women's provisions excluded men with special feelings. The (so-called) women's colleges admit transwomen.

These young women are very brave (depressing that they have to be brave to start a women-only group but here we are), more power to them.

If it is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim. Maintaining and upholding male privilege - nope. Talking about prostate cancer - yes, absolutely fine.

"Where's the male equivalent?" FFS. My own college had only been admitting women for three years before I started there.

Section 16 exceptions don't have any conditions. You can have a single sex association simply because you want one.

Iafontaine · 27/10/2025 19:17

I haven't posted in a long time, I was doing a masters in Cambridge then (not in UK anymore). If this new group needs advisers or support then these academics might be supportive: afcomm.org.uk/university-of-cambridge/

I am wondering, will the Supreme Court judgment cover women's colleges? They can't let the TIMs enrol now can they?

a college leader was claiming that Newnham has never been single sex, as students would have their boyfriends there Hmm

The one person on there I know personally is someone I wouldn’t have expected. He’s just gone up quite a few levels in my estimation.

WarriorN · 27/10/2025 19:44

The bullying they had from their peers sounds horrific

This is also concerning

Serena Worley thinks things have got worryingly bleak. “Newnham College is a transition pipeline. The majority of lesbians who arrive as freshers (a large cohort at a women’s college like ours) will be some flavour of trans or non-binary within a year, if they aren’t already. I find this in particular to be incredibly depressing. I’ve seen so many interesting, quirky, hopeful young women just deteriorate during their time here. This adoption of pronouns and sometimes even medicalisation is frequently accompanied by a clear decline in mental wellbeing. I remember going to a ButchSoc welfare tea last year to try to meet other lesbians and everyone there was non-binary and sobbing. It was utterly alienating and quite concerning. Given that this is the primary lesbian society at our college, it makes me really concerned for each year’s new batch of freshers seeing that as what’s normal for being a young lesbian.”

Thea is the daughter of an Observer journalist I’ve just seen on Twitter.

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel
hopefully the academic community is generally more GC than when I was there. I sought out academics in law who appeared to be feminist, but I was mistaken.
