Met Police set to reopen 9,000 cases in major London grooming gangs probe

In some incidences, children as young as 11 who reported being raped saw trials against their attackers collapse and were left to become victims of further abuse.

Suspected grooming gang and child exploitation cases from the last 15 years will be reviewed as part of the investigation, Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said in letter to Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan on Friday evening.

A government-ordered audit into the grooming gangs scandal earlier this year found there is “mismatch” in the way the Met and London local authorities record child abuse.

Baroness Louise Casey’s report said the force logged 2.77 contact child sexual abuse cases per 1,000 children, while boroughs recorded just 1.3 child-in-need assessments for child sexual exploitation and 1.79 for child sexual abuse.

There also appears to be a significant overlap between child sexual abuse and county lines drug trafficking gangs.

'There is no grooming gang problem in London'
'Okay, there is a problem, but it's to do with county lines'
'Okay, there is a problem, but it's generally child abuse, and it's everywhere'
'Generally, lots of people do horrible things, but let's not look too closely at the subject'.
'Anyone who keeps banging on about looking closely at the subject is a racist'.

Am I missing something? The article refers to a long overdue investigation that is going to be carried out into grooming gangs in London. But then women here immediately assume that said grooming gangs are Pakistani and are getting your pitchforks ready. Nowhere in the article does mention anyone's ethnicity

Honestly, you should be embarrassed at your ignorance.

Sadly, this does seem to represent what is happening here.

Acknowledged.

Great. Raja Miah is on X and a campaigner in the grooming gang problem so you will find his posts very informative.

His life is under threat because he is an ex Muslim. The barriers to exit of that religion are high unlike other religions.

GoldThumb · 27/10/2025 09:18

Why is it the assumption that the motive of stirring up tensions is the basis of people’s problem with this?

Why are people worrying more about ‘gifting’ racists reasons to be racist, than they are with the fact people are seeing crimes committed by Muslim men against white girls being covered up?

Why is that the focus?

I honestly have no idea...
Except misogyny and the general idea that it's 100% AOK to ignore people who are poor/ working class.

I suspect that explains a lot of it. Being female and/or poor isn't seen as an 'issue' in the same way that being a member of a minority is seen as an 'issue'.

I used to work in a school with a fair number of DC from poor/ unstable households, who were virtually all white. I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about this.

ScrollingLeaves · 27/10/2025 17:08

Swiftasthewind · 27/10/2025 08:14

Ethnic affinity? What is he trying to say, these people collaborate with one another because they share a common heritage/religion? Isn’t that a bit racist to suggest? It’s like when people claim that grooming gangs were targeting young girls because they were white, trying to add an extra dynamic to the equation in order to stir up tensions between communities. I don’t like where that is going…

It does not seem to be an extra dynamic:

From the article by Trevor Phillips,

There could be no hiding from the racial intent of the abusers, Lam quoting one victim in Dewsbury, told by her rapist: “We’re here to f all the white girls and f the government.”

Second, much has been said about the ethnicity of the perpetrators, less about the fact most of the children are white; they are seen as unclean and “worthless” by the men’s communities, according to Sanghera.

“They were told that they were white trash, that they mean nothing and they could be targeted,”

And I received zero enlightenment from you

ArabellaSaurus · 27/10/2025 17:29

So, given the.problems of misogyny in the Met, do we trust them to investigate themselves properly?

Given the conflicts of interest that seem to be rife, encompassing police, social care workers, politicians, do we trust any of them to investigate properly?

Who the hell is there who hasn't revealed themselves to be willing to compromise their integrity?

There is loads of information on this thread and lots more on the the one I have linked to below. I don't think it needs repeating as so many other posters have already supplied so much. There is enough to be going on with - this whole scandal has been ongoing for decades.

When people say it's Islamaphobic or talk about Muslim grooming gangs, they're being too sweeping. Tbe issue in this country concerns men of Pakistani origin.

There are loads of other Muslim communities which don't feature in the statistics. The largest Muslim population is in Indonesia, which has a very different culture.

Edited to add that Khan is a gutless hypocrite who should resign.

I just watched 'Grooming: A National Scandal' on Channel 4 on demand. I can't believe this has basically been going on for decades and the police/social services do a bit of this or a bit of that, say things are going to be done and things have changed but it's all still going on and nothing has changed. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of men involved barely any have been arrested. One of the groomed girls though is still registered as a sex offender - while the men who groomed her walk free.

It's just absolutely shocking - as are the CSA apologists who try to say this isn't a big problem within the Pakastani/Asian community. Not all the rapists are Asian but the Asian community is hugely over represented. One of the rapists (don't know ethnicity) was even on the local police, I'm sure it'll come as no surprise that he was never arrested either.

Does anybody know if Channel 4 have ever done a documentary about the Catholic Church grooming scandal?

'Channel 4 News has compiled the first map of Catholic abuse detailing some 37 cases across England and Wales where Catholic priests have committed sexual offences against children.Over the last few months more evidence has emerged of systematic child abuse within the Catholic church from around the world, writes investigative reporter Antony Barnett.'

Thank you for finding it for me, I just wanted to be sure that there was no potential agenda at play here. You have to be careful with hot button issues like this, many people are only interested in their own agendas.

porridgecake · 27/10/2025 22:22

Every single sexual abuse scandal, current and historic, has been, and continues to be, subject to distraction, obfuscation and cover ups. This is how they go on for so long and it is so difficult to bring the perpetrators to justice - if ever.

Rather disingenuous. It reads as if you were trying to 'even the score' because you are uncomfortable with the focus on Pakistani Muslims. Posters here are focused on justice for these young women. Please do not imply that sides are being taken.

It’s amazing how the same who people clutch their pearls when there’s talk of Muslim men committing crimes, will happily bring up abuse in the Catholic Church.

No concerns of tarring all Catholics with the same brush then, swift?

Why the double standard?

What could it be?

🤔

This poster has openly stated they believe ‘we’ are to blame somehow for Muslim men committing any and all crimes they do commit.

White supremacy is the cause, apparently.

Well to me it seems an awful lot of people are concerned about the plight of girls abused by Pakistani rapists, but when the offender is white and wears a funny hat, all of a sudden it’s not relevant or it doesn’t mean anything.

We should be tackling all abuse across the entirety of society, focusing heavily on one tiny fraction of the abusers is not fair on the rest of victims who deserve justice also.

Unless it’s catholic priests, of course.

Or do you only care about those victims when you’re using them as a ‘gotcha’?

Again-
The issue is the cover up, the sacking of whistle blowers, the involvement of police, local and central government officials, social services, the criminalisation of victims and the political reasons for the all above.

Where exactly did anyone say it's not relevant or doesnt mean anything??

Of course abuse should be tackled across society and all victims deserve justice. I don't see anyone disputing that with regard to the survivors of Catholic priest abuse.

As you admitted yourself earlier, you have a lot of reading to do on this issue. Start now.
