Met Police set to reopen 9,000 cases in major London grooming gangs probe

In some incidences, children as young as 11 who reported being raped saw trials against their attackers collapse and were left to become victims of further abuse.

Suspected grooming gang and child exploitation cases from the last 15 years will be reviewed as part of the investigation, Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said in letter to Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan on Friday evening.

A government-ordered audit into the grooming gangs scandal earlier this year found there is “mismatch” in the way the Met and London local authorities record child abuse.

Baroness Louise Casey’s report said the force logged 2.77 contact child sexual abuse cases per 1,000 children, while boroughs recorded just 1.3 child-in-need assessments for child sexual exploitation and 1.79 for child sexual abuse.

There also appears to be a significant overlap between child sexual abuse and county lines drug trafficking gangs.

A school friends DD was groomed by a gang a few years ago. Her mum couldn’t understand why her behaviour had changed so dramatically and blamed it on her DD not being happy about her new sibling.
The young teen was eventually taken into care many miles away from home to stop her running back to the grooming gang.

The grooming gang destroyed the family, I hope that they are prosecuted.

AloneAgain321 · 26/10/2025 08:01

well I’m glad something is finally being done about this. I hope there’s lots of prosecutions and these men get locked away forever.

ApplebyArrows · 26/10/2025 08:02

So many questions not just for the police but also why local authority care allows this sort of thing to happen. I wonder if some of the victims would have had better lives if they'd been allowed to stay with their families.

It a real shame the gutter press has made it all about "Muslim" men in "gangs" rather than recognising that groups of men who for whatever reason meet or work together.

@IwantToRetire That is a disgraceful slur on the journalists led by the late Andrew Norfolk and managers of The Times who spent so much time and effort uncovering the truth about The Pakistani gangs in the northern cities.
Your attitude, and referring to it as invented by the gutter press was exactly the excuse that was used at the time to condemn the victims as liars and to minimise the scale of the crimes.

Well said.

Vitriolinsanity · 26/10/2025 08:06

Where are they suddenly getting the expertise and funds to do? Did they have all these officers and cash doing something more important?

Maybe the halt to investigatin non crime hate incidents will free up some time.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/10/2025 08:55

What strike me is that 9000 cases of rapes against girls were actually closed, which must have had a horrible impact on those girls.

Definitely. It’s appalling.

ArabellaSaurus · 26/10/2025 08:59

And that the inquire consultancy group in including young women abused by groups are somehow being made to feel they aren't as important, as though the religion or ethnic identity of the men involved somehow makes the sexual abuse worse.

This is the precise inverse of what happened to many young white girls who were targeted by Pakistani rape gangs, and who were ignored, smeared, and in some cases further abused, by police.

The fudging and evasion and unwillingness to look squarely at how race and ethnicity were factors in both abuse and subsequent cover ups have been a shameful further abuse of girls and women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2025 09:08

Quite, @ArabellaSaurus

Mum4MrA · 26/10/2025 09:41

How can someone in Sadiq Khan’s position not understand the meaning of “grooming gangs”?

It’s hardly a complicated term, he has advisors and access to the police, social services and health, and if he can’t ask them, there’s always Google. It appears to be wilful ignorance.

BundleBoogie · 26/10/2025 10:34

IwantToRetire · 26/10/2025 01:13

Its explained in the article. One being discrepencies in records by different authorities.

Also, although the headlines always go on about grooming gangs (again as the article says) one threat to young girls is gang culture which often include initiation "rituals".

And as is clear in the article the complete failure of the care system to protect young children, which often means very young girls left to fend for themselves in unsafe housing.

In total the number of young women harmed in this cycle of neglect far exceeds the number of young women victims of "gangs".

It a real shame the gutter press has made it all about "Muslim" men in "gangs" rather than recognising that groups of men who for whatever reason meet or work together.

No different to Epstien.

And that the inquire consultancy group in including young women abused by groups are somehow being made to feel they aren't as important, as though the religion or ethnic identity of the men involved somehow makes the sexual abuse worse.

If you read the article in full which have some of the heartbreaking stories of really young girls, it just seems inexplicable to think they should not have their abuse recognised.

It a real shame the gutter press has made it all about "Muslim" men in "gangs" rather than recognising that groups of men who for whatever reason meet or work together.

There are lots of types of rape gangs but one particular type of gang had a very specific profile - Pakistani Muslim men and MO specifically targeting white girls and, maybe this is the bit that’s hard to accept, were facilitated and shielded by many people in authority including the police, councils and their community. This is a unique and very real situation affecting a disproportionate number of girls (non Chinese Asian men have a far higher rate of offending per head than white men - the latest figures were shared yesterday on another thread).

Your dismissive comment about the ‘gutter press’ is unhelpful. The huge number of victims need people to investigate properly and stop turning a blind eye because they are scared of being accused of racism. They haven’t even got to the stage of having their voices heard properly and to dismiss the reality of who did this to them and why is cruel.

Every single person who brings up the ‘but white men run grooming gangs too’ just obscures a very specific issue.

Exactly. Of course he fucking understands what is meant by the term.

Khan knew exactly what Susan was talking about and played "gotcha" trying to make her say a racial term so he could smear her. He is revolting and an utter misogynist.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2025 10:40

Agree.

History has shown that it’s quite hard to persuade someone that an issue exists if his livelihood depends on not seeing it.

He and Jess Phillips gave a huge conflict of interest due to their local Muslim population. Jess has a 45% Muslim constituency.

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 26/10/2025 10:44

Khan’s dismissal and sneering reaction when challenged on these matters should be the end of his career. I cannot comprehend how we have let this happen over and over again to our most vulnerable society members. Authorities just keep on kicking the can down the road, too terrified to face it head on because of what else there is to uncover. The surface has barely been scratched on these atrocities. If they can just keep it in the long grass for another few decades, many involved will die off. Exactly like they did with Saville. I’ve never been ashamed of my country before, but this utter disgrace is the one that did it.

Wimpod · 26/10/2025 10:46

Oh, was that what he was doing? It was obvious he was being totally disengenuous, I couldn't work out why or what the point was. Thought it was just petty obfuscation.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2025 11:26

If you watch the full video it’s pretty clear.

Swiftasthewind · 26/10/2025 11:36

Oh great, more news to make the knuckle
draggers blame Muslims for all the problems in this country. I bet the press were rubbing their hands with glee when this came across their desks.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2025 11:59

Yes, that’s definitely the priority here, how bad Labour etc look.

defrazzled · 26/10/2025 12:00

@Swiftasthewind it is not 'the knuckle draggers' that are the problem. I live in a predominantly muslim area and everyone is frightened that the governments lying and coverups in going to cause race riots. These crimes have predominantly been carried out by one ethnic and cultural group. The stats are clear: https://ispruk.substack.com/p/uk-grooming-gangs-deriving-per-capita

It might be uncomfortable but it needs addressing. The poorest and most vulnerable are being preyed on and the Police have ignored it for decade. These are children living in care homes with no parents in many cases. And if these men do this to these girls, they will also be abusing their wives and children, many of whom also have no voice or financial freedom.

This has gone on long enough. It is not anti catholic to discuss the priests raping children and it is not racist to discuss this. It needs stopping.
