Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Waterside Arts Centre Sale clearly ignoring Supreme Court

SigrunGard · 05/10/2025 13:52

i was at the Waterside last night with my partner. The Women’s was marked “women’s” but then written on the door in large letters was something to the effect of please feel free to use whichever facilities” match your gender identity or gender expression “. Mentioned it to my partner who said the same was on the door to the men’s ( he said someone asked a friend what that meant and the reply was apparently” some modern bollocks” - hard to argue!)

I rather feel I should email them and point out that this is not right- anyone got suggestions for wording that doesn’t just make me sound bigoted!?

thanks

Have you since the ruling?

Yes I have. I have been tacking this nonsense on many fronts. HTH

how does that translate in reality?
What has been the outcome of your campaigning @GargoylesofBeelzebub ?

No, I can’t think of any wording that won’t seem bigoted. If you’re a bigot, why not just “own it” instead of trying to think of ways of gaslighting people that you’re not one?

Can you explain why you just don't get it?

Women do not want to share toilets with men.

It's totally reasonable.

@Jallypally wont get it because they are a man

Many men do get it

Not @Jallypally

Like many women I have helped to crowdfund some of the legal cases, some of which are yet to come to court. I am constantly writing emails to MPs and MSPs and service providers, sporting bodies etc where I see they are not complying with the Supreme Court ruling.

Currently the replies, if they have replied at all are mostly of the “we’re waiting for EHRC guidance” kind which I have pointed out to them means they are breaking the law and opening themselves up to legal action. HTH

And? Their response?

It says what their response has been so far. Did you not read it?

I meant the response to you “pointing out”

so… what was their response to you “pointing out…”

SparklyPombears · 05/10/2025 14:02

Point them at the Supreme Court ruling and threaten a lawsuit.

Agreed. We're only going to get change on this when people actually start trying to get the law enforced instead of complaining on the internet.

Not a single one of the multiple organisations who you have pointed this out to have got back to you?

Those that have got back to me have just re iterated that they intend to wait for the EHRC guidance.

What else would you like to interrogate me about? Shoe size? Hair colour?

What’s your issue here?

No.

she said that she responded to their response by “pointing out”

and I simply asked… what did they respond to you “pointing out” something in response

maybe read the exchange? Slowly

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 10/10/2025 14:01

Do you not think that if there was anything interesting to say about their responses I might have mentioned it the first time you asked? 🙄
