Radio 1 DJ and noted jurist Greg James has given his verdict

I bought Greg James’ new book, hoping for some entertaining fluff along similar lines to his likeable breakfast show persona. In a chapter on ‘not growing up’ he is talking about accepting new ideas and then - of course - weighs in on the FWS Supreme Court decision.

“It’s a backwards step and another reminder that we all have to try and understand the world as it changes”.

I honestly can’t believe he thought it was worth wasting the paper to print this. Is it too much to ask that people who don’t have the slightest bit of understanding about something could just shut up about it?

Just to clarify - I'm not saying he writes "like an older person" and that's bad. I'm saying he seems to think older people can't accept new ideas and that that applies to him, not that he's right.

My problem with him is that he implies that the country's most senior judges just needed to give it a bit more thought, and bingo, nobody's got any problems any more. It's extraordinarily facile.

Plus, I have to listen to Classic FM in the mornings now 😥

Edited

I prefer Classic FM - except for when I click for the ads first thing.

It's weird he says "we all have to try to understand the world as it changes" - it's quite bizarre if you think of the meaning behind that. It's not that we need to understand what's always been there and be more accepting. It's not some rationale for why we should accept men as women. It's just some outside force has decided this is the way it is, so we blindly accept it, because it's the thing to believe now.

Also the irony of him telling Jordan to "enjoy the money", whilst being paid half a million by the BBC to interview celebs and play silly games. And he's turning 40 in December so wonder how much longer he has at R1.

Thissickbeat · 11/10/2025 18:16

I'm not a fan of Greg but I think the "enjoy the money" comment was an in joke, come dine with me.
Sadly I think he's hanging on to beat Moyles 8yrs on breakfast. should have been Jordan by now.

DrAmanitaPhalloides · 12/10/2025 00:41

Yes i got the come dine with me reference, it's an overused joke.

Thanks for this. From a number one fan to someone who barely listens anymore. I'd have never believed it.

Alastair Campbell with his finger on the pulse as ever.

SinnerBoy · 12/11/2025 22:02

Oh, Honest Alistair Campbell is on the case! We can be certain that his assessment is 180° to reality.
