... & Magpie regularly drains the hot chocolate bowser.

If you understand that, or you're just cool with it, come on in & bagsie a chair by the fire.

To be clear the antibiotics will happen tomorrow after surgery. They need to take cultures of the infection and antibiotics interfere with that. Think of it as a crime scene where someone has mopped up all the blood (and badly) making it impossible to detect exactly how the crime happened. This is an attempt to say it's definitely Mrs White in the kitchen with a meat cleaver as quickly as possible.

They will clean out the wound, probably put another drain/pump on it and then constant antibiotics for some weeks. Initially delivered intravenously in hospital then at home, possibly intravenously. It will be at least Christmas before it heals completely but hopefully I can be at home with oral antibiotics in a couple or so weeks' time.

Thank you for the gerbil wool mountain. It made my day! Sadly I can't drink any of that prosecco, and it may be some time before I can drink any alcohol. I am aware that it's possible to drink while having some types of antibiotics but I want to give this foot as much of an advantage over the bacteria as possible. I just hope I will be fine for Christmas...

When listening to traffic news I always used to hear Simister roundabout as sinister roundabout. I thought it probably had something to do with left-hand flow of traffic. After thinking this for years I finally saw it written down. It never occurred to me that there wasn't ever anything about a dexter roundabout.

I'm glad the hospital has a plan. Although 'limping along' is just a little on the nose?

SionnachRuadh · 09/10/2025 15:45

Not to be too meta, but sometimes I wish our reactions were a bit more granular.

Sometimes I use the heart emoji to mean "I feel real sympathy for you" or "Thanks for sharing a difficult experience" or it might be "Thanks for expressing this question better than I could".

And sometimes I use the clap emoji to mean "Thanks for bringing this useful information to my attention" or "I don't exactly agree with you, but thanks for your valuable perspective" or it might be "Thanks for appreciating my contribution to this discussion".

I realise I'm groping for an online equivalent of facial expression or tone of voice or body language, and it's probably impossible to do.

I've tracked down the thread (I think) & read the last page. I also avoid that OP, as engaging seems pointless - but well done Taz for her calm & measured posts on page 40, & FlirtsWithRhinos for her simply magnificent post which explains the basics so eloquently.

Thank you. I’ve had to step back for the sake of my blood pressure. I don’t know what the point is of debating in the ether without looking at the practicalities.

I have to say, being told I was using my rape to justify my transphobia was …. Interesting.

My blood pressure is dangerously high as it is. I know rationally that there are some arguments I shouldn't get into. But I do.

Sometimes we just do what we feel we need to do. It's appreciated.

I genuinely do not understand the logic that it’s ok for every fucker to know about my trauma and me be outed because of xyz things but it’s not ok for a man because ? I don’t know.

anyway. I’m going to go eat my body weight in cream cakes.

Britinme · 09/10/2025 16:39

That sounds like an excellent idea @Taztoy . Which thread were you on? I'd like to see it and make a note of which poster it was being quite that offensive, so I can judge the quality of any future posts they might make.

You can use 'Advanced Search' & input a username to see someone's posts across threads, latest/oldest first.

If you see that an annoying poster hasn't posted (/posted under that username) before, beware of saying so in a thread, as it can be taken as troll-hunting, which is against MN rules.

Thanks for the suggestion but I couldn't even find @Taztoy that way so I still don't know what thread it was.

I'm going to deploy my favourite Judge Judy quote again (haven't watched for years, but this stayed with me):

"That doesn't make sense to me. And when something doesn't make sense to me, that's usually because IT. IS. NOT. TRUE."

There is no logic. It isn't right. There is no justification. But you'll never get someone from the other side to admit it.

So cream cakes are a great answer at this point. 😁I'd join you, but my near-diabetes means I've just had to limit myself to ONE miniature baklava with my afternoon coffee. And by miniature I mean less than an inch square. I'm trying, Ringo, I'm trying real hard. 😥

Did you put an '@' in? Don't. Just put the name & hit 'Search' - enter/CR doesn't work. And check spelling, or use cut & paste. It should work.

Don't worry about it

I think it was a case of Craigavon hai 😉

Get thee to pedantry corner, ‘thou’ is the singular so ‘thou all’ doesn’t work!ShockGrin

It's very appropriate in response to my baklava lament, so thank you! It comes from the Sandie Peggie tribunal. I fiddled aound with some designs for it a while ago - here are a couple.

Looking for those images, I found an old one made for Myrtle, which seems appropriate this week too.

That’s obviously spelt youse.

The man should’ve used his spell check!

I always have low expectations for the tra zealots that post on here. Somehow they still manage to disappoint me.

Eta tra zealot is a bit of a tautology.

Jam Cream GIF by National Trust

I'll have an apple turnover, an elephant's foot, an éclair, a scone with raspberry jam. That'll do to start.

Big mug of tea, no milk though. Don't want to overdo the dairy.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/10/2025 18:07

Cake!!!
Make way for the latest Puffin Airways flight, bringing a gang of quokkas and one red panda to the cake-in!

That is a prodigious quantity of cake, I'm impressed that the gerbil pastry chefs work so fast!
