... & Magpie regularly drains the hot chocolate bowser.

If you understand that, or you're just cool with it, come on in & bagsie a chair by the fire.

That sounds like the perfect birthday, Myrtle. Do I take it that the purchase of a 2.5mm circular needle indicates the presence of socks in your future? 🤔😊

I have sort of promised Boily that I will make her some suffragette socks in acrylic yarn as she's super allergic to wool.

DK yarn in Green White and Violet (Give Women Votes) has arrived.

The whole knitting project has so far gone so smoothly that I thought it would be a breeze, but I've now read the easy sock pattern in my Knitting for Beginners magazine and realised it will require concentration. Hopefully once I get going it will be fine, but I haven't done knitting in the round before.

So yes to socks, once I've worked out how.to knit them.

I am currently making the Easiest Scarf in the World.
Cast on 300 stitches. Knit. Cut the yarn. Knit. Cut the yarn. Tie the ends in a knot when you have four ends. Repeat and cast off when it's wide enough. The ends make the scarf fringe.
Essentially you're knitting the length of the scarf and there's no fiddly bits.
It's going well and using up my stash. (Must message AlexandraLeaving about yarn).

I think I own this set, if I could only remember where I put it. (Image should appear soon)

Morning! Brews all round please, gerbils!

I hope you've all had restful nights, in particular Woley and DH and FIL. And Taz. And Banned. And everybody who needed a restful night after yesterday.

Have you seen the bunny rescue threads? Impossibly cute photos of bunnies, and a comment that a lot of terfs seem to have pet bunniesHmm
We don't have rabbits at the Bluestocking. I'm sure there's a good reason for that. It doesn't mean we don't love them, right?Easter Smile

They are too busy mating elsewhere to get any work done, i am all for maternity rights just not for rabbits

Igneococcus · 01/10/2025 10:30

@MarieDeGournay have a look at this pressure discontinuity. I don't know if it has passed us already or is coming our way but if pressure changes can cause migraines this is something to look out for. I've taken Zolmitripatn twice this week, so maybe it already passed.

DD was given a pretty Noah’s Ark book when she was small ...leaving aside my thoughts on this charming story, an amusing detail was that 2 rabbits boarded but there were at least a dozen leaving.

I’d be surprised if the lower slopes of Peak Woo didn’t have a warren or two but (as is actually the case in my area) most of the Leporidae hereabouts are hares.

Igneococcus · 01/10/2025 10:33

Dang, I keep forgetting that you can't just paste something into the text box. here is the current pressure map.

That yarn is beautiful @SeptemberIRemember.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/10/2025 12:08

Ooooh - gorgeous yarn, @SeptemberIRemember!

We have no news this morning - we can’t get through to the ED to find any out. All we know is that FIL is still in the ED, having presumably spent all night on a trolley. I’m assuming he must be stable - they’d have rung us if his condition was a lot worse.

MyrtleLion · 01/10/2025 13:41

Lovely book available from Rachel Rooney (My Body is Me) on Twitter. https://x.com/RooneyRachel

Oh bless him. That’s crap.

Taztoy · 01/10/2025 14:09

I just ordered wool (well cotton yarn) to do a baby blanket. It’s the law that a new baby requires more wool right?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/10/2025 14:20

Absolutely right, @Taztoy!

We have finally spoken to the hospital, and FIL is staying in for a few days - minor heart attack, they think. He sounded tired and a bit cross, but doing OK - they have him on medication.

MarieDeGournay · 01/10/2025 15:04

Just popping in because I've been keeping an eye on the tribunal as well as prepping house for visitors tomorrow😬
Thank you so much for the heads-up [so to speak] re pressure changes/migraine, I really appreciate it.
Those weather maps can look terrifying, can't they? Like the End of the World is heading across the Atlantic and We're All Doomed - it's the deep purple that does it!
Thank you, I'm now forewarned and forearmed and stocked up with my DOC, Migraleve.

Woley, you and DH know that FIL is where he needs to be, and is being cared for. Flowers

Sionnach - there's been a sionnach rua sound asleep in the autumnal sun at the end of my garden for hours now, It made me think of you, hoping your health is improved and you feel as relaxed and peaceful as your lovely cousin in my gardenSmile

edited to say thank you to Igneo re migraines

Salute from the land of pasta and olive oil! I'm drinking white wine and eating pesto and focaccia after a lovely long swim in the sea and all feels serene and beautiful. It's nice to forget about woes of the world for a bit.

Very best wishes to poorly FILs, birthday celebrants and possessors of lovely yarn.

I have asked hotel staff about availability of gerbils but they have not been forthcoming. There are a couple of mouse-eared bats who visit each evening, though.

MarieDeGournay · 01/10/2025 16:23

Mouse-eared bats? Can we have them at the Bluestocking? bring one back, please, Pasta!
well, two because we don't want them to be lonely.
The mouse-eared bat in the picture is giving the idea a double thumbs up😄
They can give the gerbils rides on their backs, it'll be great!
The squeals of delight might get a bit much, maybe the bats could teach the gerbils to move their squeals up a few Hertz...

It sounds like you're having a lovely time, so to say 'enjoy' is probably superfluous... but enjoy!Smile

staff member to you:

Mi dispiace signorina, questa sera non ci sono gerbilli al lavoro.

Glad you’ve got an update about your FiL, Woley - and that his carer did the right thing.

I’m curious, @SeptemberIRemember, if you are planning to make something out of that yarn or whether you just want to possess it? I am starting to have a vague mental image of myself after I retire which includes having a beautiful stash but not of what I’d want to use it for (other than joining the wonderful wooly huggers).

lcakethereforeIam · 01/10/2025 16:53

I'd keep it in a box, taking it out every so often to look at 😍

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/10/2025 17:08

@ErrolTheDragon - you don’t need a reason for a yarn stash. Collecting lovely yarn is a hobby in itself.

Mannaggia! Cosa dirà la sua recensione su Internet?

[all internet Italian, I don't speak it]

Italian -Not a scooby.

Had flu jab this morning. Feeling rough. Send gerbils, quokkas and Bessie.

Magpiecomplex · 01/10/2025 17:58

Where did the hot chocolate bowser go? I could do with it tonight. Happy to share with anyone who needs it too.

I have just enough Italian to work this out!

Magpiecomplex · 01/10/2025 18:12

Well, I can't understand most of what Berta is saying (both too high and in Italian) but she's fine company. Happy to welcome a mouse-eared bat or several to the Bluestocking.
