'The case of double amputee surgeon Andrew Neil Hopper, who infected his own legs with dry ice so they could be amputated because he had a fetish for amputations has opened a window into a truly bizarre world of dark web pornography and weird sexual fantasies for cut-off limbs and "stumps that look so sexy".
At a sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court today (Thursday September 4) it was heard how Hopper had throughout his life felt that he was in the wrong body and wanted to be a woman, but could not talk to anyone about it in the small rural village in Wales where he grew up.
The court was told how Hopper went to medical school where met his wife and future mother of his children and confided in her about his gender issues but never to his colleagues for fear he would be cast out out and left isolated. Neither did he confide to anyone about his body integrity disorder and the deep-rooted loathing he had for his legs and feet.'

'Mr Langdon, defending, said Hopper had been a well respected and caring medical professional who had put the care for his patients at the heart of his work. He said colleagues had great respect for the quality of his work.
"This whole saga is very difficult to comprehend for people who knew him and for the rest of us too," he said. "From a young age Mr Hopper felt he was in the wrong body and was troubled by his gender and wanted to be female. In private he wore his sister's clothes.
"He suffered from body integrity dysmorphia and had a profound distaste for his feet. he never felt they part of him. He felt they were an unwelcome extra, but felt unable to discuss anything with anyone."'

Fetishes cluster. However much you believe gender incongruence is a real condition, it would be dishonest to deny it is also used as a sanitising label by cross dressing fetishists. Lurkers please note, this does not imply that all people labelling themselves as transwomen are fetishists. We have ample evidence in their own self published words that some are.

ArabellaScott · 04/09/2025 19:25

This doctor's fraud was uncovered when the Eunuch Maker was investigated.

A reminder that the WPATH Standards of Care include 'eunuch' as an 'identity' and suggest castration as a treatment.

And the NHS are still listing them on their Nottingham website.

Other GP guidance

There are various places where medical professionals can find details about the treatment of trans and gender diverse individuals.

Body dysmorphia is a recognised mental health condition. And I have heard of that before, where people feel a part of their body doesn't belong and experience the urge to cut of their own limbs, etc. This guy sounds like he was mentally unwell to me. It must be horrible if you look down and your leg doesn't feel like yours.

The ICD 11 describes that 'gender incongruence' diagnosis depends on excluding a crossdressing paraphilia.

So anyone seeking a diagnosis will presumably be screened for this.

Body integrity dysmorphia or body integrity identity disorder (BIID) or xenomelia.

The treatment for this does not include affirmation and/or amputation.

He's a doctor and he was dabbling in dark web amputation porn. I don't know where exactly one draws the line between mental health disorders and the damage that extreme porn does to its users (is that in itself a mental health disorder?), but this one sounds to be far over to the fetish side of the line.

JeannieDark · 04/09/2025 19:44

They didn’t mention gender incongruence on the BBC article about this I don’t think. The bit on that one that stood out for me was that someone was jailed for 22 years for running “an extreme body modification ring”. But the Tavistock was run by the NHS.

Is that a joke given the lengths this man went to simulate (or rather, create) symptoms that required leg amputation?

LeftieRightsHoarder · 04/09/2025 19:49

He’s a surgeon who’s turned on by dark web amputation pornography. This sounds like the storyline for a particularly sickening horror film. Sometimes I wish we didn’t have to share a planet with men and their sick sick fantasies.

KidsDr · 04/09/2025 20:02

What's most concerning about this story is that he is a vascular surgeon who has performed limb amputations in the course of his work, with a sexual fetish for limb amputation...

So far the reporting is that there is no evidence of wrongdoing in his professional sphere but I would be pretty concerned if I were a former patient. It would seem that at the very least he has actively pursued a very particular career (amongst plenty of other surgical careers not involving amputation) which repeatedly places him in the position of being sexually aroused by his unconsenting patients. That's so unprofessional and unethical, that it does make you question whether he also crossed the line into performing unnecessary amputations.

Edited

The point you make about patients is very important, I think IIRC that was exactly the point @BettyBooper made, I don't know why she was deleted for it.

I'd also feel violated if I were an ex-patient of his and learned this.

@ArabellaScott This bit from the article 'Mr Langdon, defending, said... In private he wore his sister's clothes.' Envy That's another familiar theme of these creepy fetishists!

MyAmpleSheep · 04/09/2025 20:29

So... have I got this right ... have your legs removed unnecessarily and you go to prison.. have your penis removed unnecessarily and you're stunning and brave?

I think he went to prison for insurance fraud - he received £400k

guinnessguzzler · 04/09/2025 20:39

It's so obvious. So obvious. And absolutely fascinating that in this case it's described as being both an obsession and a 'sexual interest', so effectively he was deeply disturbed by the presence of his own legs AND sexually aroused by their absence. That's very interesting, isn't it? Both dysmorphia AND a fetish. Interesting.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 04/09/2025 21:07

I remember the Furry pup bloke who ended up with stumps instead of hands - paws .
when folk weren’t saying ‘stunning and brave’ he said he had burned his hands.

and had put them into dry ice.

cos that’s what you do…..

TrainedByCats · 04/09/2025 21:07

I’d be very concerned if I was a former patient of his.

It all sounds so incredibly sordid, his poor wife and children, and sister. I wonder if she knew he used to wear her clothes. It gets mentioned in court almost as a mitigation with no thought to how violated his sister will feel

deadpan · 04/09/2025 21:15

I think most people would say that psychological therapy/treatment would be needed in that situation.
If you suggest that for gender dysphoria you're accused of supporting conversion therapy.

Nope.

Double checked.

The BBC are lame reporting and are still terrified/unwilling to go near anything that suggest poor behaviour from anyone with gender questioning feelings.

How odd? (Not).

The picture shows a person seated in a living room. They are wearing a blue shirt and have prosthetic legs. The room includes a coffee table and sofa.

Neil Hopper claimed that injuries to his legs were the result of sepsis and not self-inflicted.

There are plenty of women with extreme sexual fantasies too. It is not as well known because much of women's porn is text based rather than visual images.

Paraphilias are overwhelmingly a male phenomenon.

Yes but this man was in a position of authority which required him to carry out aspects of his fetish on unsuspecting patients as part of his job.
🤢

ArabellaScott · 04/09/2025 21:48

I find it a bit surprising, on a thread about a male with a serious paraphilia, who associated with the entirely male Eunuch maker circle, and given we have the very stark figures of 99% of sex crimes being committed by males, and virtually all paraphilias being confined to males, that we'd actually have someone trying to tell us that women do it too.

I suppose it's the inverse of NAMALT - SWALTT.

Some women are like that, too.

Apart from a handful of vanishingly rare exceptions, they're not.
